704 Media Day Preview

In a partnership with Prep Redzone North Carolina, Charlotte Football Insiders, and Impact Speed Training, there will be a Media Day for schools located in the 704 area code on Wednesday, August 6th at Harding University High School in Charlotte. At least 17 schools will be in attendance, along with their head coaches, and it will be a great time to learn about some of the best area programs and their prospects for the upcoming season. Let's take a look and see who will attend.   11:30 AM Session   JM Robinson - The Bulldogs are the best team in Cabarrus County in my preseason look at the Charlotte Metro Area. While they have lost some talent to graduation, the Bulldogs are reloading on the back of some talented seniors on both sides of the ball. Expect [player_tooltip player_id='1332096' first='LJ' last='Watson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1301238' first='Elijah' last='Shoe'] to power an offense, breaking in a new QB and wide receivers. The Bulldogs will have a good defensive line with [player_tooltip player_id='861458' first='Aiden' last='Black'] on the interior, along with some other talented players. [player_tooltip player_id='1368141' first='Cameron' last='Tucker'] is one of the faster defensive backs in the state and has some deserved recruiting attention.   Jason Seidel - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1332096' first='LJ' last='Watson'] - RB [player_tooltip player_id='1301238' first='Elijah' last='Shoe'] - OL [player_tooltip player_id='861458' first='Aiden' last='Black'] - DL Cam Tucker - DB   AL Brown - I picked the Wonders to win their conference earlier this preview season, and a big reason why is the returning talent on the defensive side of the ball. Gavin Yow led his team in tackles last season, but now is moving over to a safety position, while Dhylin Hollis will pick up a bigger role at linebacker. Bryce Morgan will carry the load full-time now on offense after playing a part-time role last season.   Justin Hardin - Head Coach Gavin Yow - S Dhylin Hollis - LB Bryce Morgan - RB   Salisbury - I picked the Hornets as my preseason best team in Rowan County, and year in and year out, they have been a strong program in the area. Expect Jay'lin Johnson to be everywhere on offense with the ball in his hands a lot. I wrote about Malik Williams after seeing him perform at the Catawba camp earlier this summer, and Ephrai Williams is probably one of the best overall athletes in Rowan County.   Clayton Trivett - Head Coach Jay'lin Johnson - ATH  Malik Williams - OL/DL Ephraim Williams - DB/RB   Southlake Christian - Head Coach Caleb Hughes is regarded as one of the better offensive minds in the area, and he has some firepower with talented quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1321016' first='Cameron' last='Gandy'] and Offensive Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1671904' first='Hunter' last='Tedder'] powering that side of the ball. Luke Conenna and Jimmy Lapelusa will have opportunities to make names for themselves on defense.   Caleb Hughes - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1321016' first='Cameron' last='Gandy'] - QB [player_tooltip player_id='1671904' first='Hunter' last='Tedder'] - OL Luke Conenna - DB Jimmy Lapelusa - LB/RB   Cox Mill - There has been a lot of change within the Charger program this offseason, but Head Coach Breon Holmes is confident that the Chargers will have a bounce-back season, on the backs of two talented linebackers in [player_tooltip player_id='1396561' first='Jacob' last='Moore'] and Michael Mazzoni. I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1668973' first='Sione' last='Latimore'] do some impressive things at the CFI Carolinas MEGA Showcase in May, so he should be a main playmaker offensively.   Breon Holmes - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1396561' first='Jacob' last='Moore'] - Linebacker Michael Mazzoni - Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1668973' first='Sione' last='Latimore'] - Athlete   West Rowan - A lot of people are confident that the Falcons are going to be a strong team this year, led by some talented seniors. [player_tooltip player_id='1672011' first='Brant' last='Graham'] was rated as my best quarterback in Rowan County this offseason, and Kaden Sanders has had a strong offseason of work, and he's poised to become one of the best linebackers in the area.   Louis Kraft - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1672011' first='Brant' last='Graham'] - Quarterback Max Kalinowski - Offensive Line Kaden Sanders - Linebacker   12:30 PM Session   Harding - The Rams have shown some improvement in 7 on 7 competition this summer per several area coaches, and are poised to compete in their new conference. JaQuavion Gaffney is a talented 6'4 prospect who can line up at several positions on both sides of the ball.   Terence Cunningham - Head Coach JaQuavion Gaffney - ATH Cayden Barringer - OL/DL Jamarcus Hairston - RB/DL   North Stanly - The Comets have been the best team in Stanly County for the last few years now, according to most area coaches. [player_tooltip player_id='1600483' first='Lorquis' last='Lilly'] (Juice) at the linebacker position is a tackling machine while [player_tooltip player_id='1572758' first='Caleb' last='Terhune'] has some great size and run-stopping ability on the defensive line. [player_tooltip player_id='1368124' first='Matthew' last='Barber'] recently committed to play college football at Georgetown University, and [player_tooltip player_id='1308876' first='Troy' last='Logan'] is one of the better quarterbacks in the Charlotte Metro Area. [player_tooltip player_id='612106' first='Banks' last='Cutter'] will do a little bit of everything for the Hawks on both sides of the ball this year.   Drew Dayton - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='612106' first='Banks' last='Cutter'] - TE/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1368124' first='Matthew' last='Barber'] - OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1308876' first='Troy' last='Logan'] - QB   Ambassador Christian - The Lions are moving up to play their first full varsity football season after only playing JV last year. That being said, the Lions have some strong talent, including Tight End [player_tooltip player_id='1608324' first='Troy' last='Alderfer'], who broke out this summer in 7 on 7 competition and picked up an offer from North Carolina as a result of that.   Jay Poag - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1608324' first='Troy' last='Alderfer'] - Tight End Willie Sturgis - Linebacker Caleb Gautier - OL/DL   South Iredell - After getting the Vikings to the playoffs last season, Linville was named his conference's coach of the year, which was well deserved. [player_tooltip player_id='1599171' first='Brooks' last='Culp'] is a big, strong offensive line prospect who can succeed equally well in both run blocking and pass protection.   Lee Linville - Head Coach Adam Sharpe - Wide Receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1599171' first='Brooks' last='Culp'] - Offensive Line Griffin Luxton - Linebacker   Corvian - After making a run all the way to the 1A state championship game last season, the Cardinals still have some talent returning this season and should be a contender in their classification. Kicker [player_tooltip player_id='1548852' first='Cooper' last='Peterson'] is one of the best in the state, and Jaylen Summers is a tackling machine from his linebacker position with great instincts. Chris Amill - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='1548852' first='Cooper' last='Peterson'] - Kicker Trey Dukes - Offensive Line Jaylen Summers - Linebacker   1:30 PM Session   Providence Day - The private school power is expected to be a contender for a championship once again, as that has become the standard year in and year out for the Chargers. Chad Grier has increased the schedule strength and has the talent to be successful leading his team again this year. Syracuse commit [player_tooltip player_id='896157' first='Zaid' last='Lott'] has special talent under center, while linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='896158' first='Quintin' last='McCray'] and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1029786' first='Griff' last='Galloway'] power a defense that shows the ability to be smothering at times to its opponents.   Chad Grier - Head Coach [player_tooltip player_id='896157' first='Zaid' last='Lott'] - QB [player_tooltip player_id='896158' first='Quintin' last='McCray'] - LB [player_tooltip player_id='1029786' first='Griff' last='Galloway'] - DL   Concord - I have the Spiders in the top half of Cabarrus County in my rankings breakdown this season, and a big reason why is because of the talents of these three young men in attendance at this media day. The two linemen in Alex Williams and Sam Harrington, will help the Spiders control the line of scrimmage in a big way this season.   Darren Shepherd - Head Coach Elijah Williams - DB/RB Alex Williams - OL/DL Sam Harrington - DL   Berry - The Cardinals are always dangerous with their skill, talent, and athletes, and this year is no different. [player_tooltip player_id='1671090' first='Miles' last='Smith'] is an athletic and rangy defensive player with excellent size who has received deserved recruiting attention. You can expect to see Elijah Britt almost never come off the field for the Cardinals this season as well; that's how valuable he is. Leading rusher [player_tooltip player_id='1334109' first='Aamir' last='Gilcreast'] returns, along with dominant defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1717339' first='Jason' last='Eaton'], who easily had double-digit sack production last season.   Robert Washington - Head Coach  [player_tooltip player_id='1334109' first='Aamir' last='Gilcreast'] - RB Aidan Bornhauser - OL [player_tooltip player_id='1717339' first='Jason' last='Eaton'] - DL    Olympic Trojans - The Trojans have been a consistently good football team under Head Coach Brandon Thompson's leadership, and this season, he will lean on some defensive leaders to continue the winning tradition. Bryce Nixon is a player who has been impressive in getting the football and showing strong tackling skills in space on a consistent basis.
