Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Jason is one of the top sack leaders in North Carolina, and he excels in defeating blocks in a variety of ways. He can with speed against slower offensive linemen, and he can win with power versus weaker linemen. I like his speed that he shows in running down plays that go away from him as well.

The benefit of Mountain Island Charter playing a few non-conference games against bigger schools is that we’ve gotten to see how their top talent performs against tougher competition, even in a few losses. That’s been no problem for Eaton, who has 11 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. He’s not the longest edge rusher you’ll find, but he’s quick off the ball and has a great bull rush.

It was over for West Caldwell as soon as Mountain Island Charter got into obvious pass situations. Eaton had five sacks in a 49-22 win with two other tackles for loss sprinkled in as well. MIC has only played two games this season, both against teams from higher classifications. If Eaton continues to excel as a pass-rusher, it will be difficult for teams to move the ball against the Raptors.

Eaton just made our 2A All-State team ahead of his senior season. He’s a bigger edge rusher, especially for that class, and he makes his presence felt off the edge. A big-hitter, Eaton excels as an outside run defender and has flashed as a pass-rusher in the past as well.

Eaton isn’t your prototypical edge rusher. He isn’t extraordinarily long, but he has good bend and great power, especially at the 1A level. He’s a smart player who loves to hit and sets himself up for success before the snap, often getting to where the play is going. His sack numbers aren’t overly high, but he gets after the quarterback and routinely causes havoc.
