Troy has grown physically to 6’5 and 230 pounds per his Twitter profile, and that kind of size always attracts the attention of college football programs. Since the end of the season, Troy has received offers from East Carolina, Ball State, and Campbell, respectively. Troy has excellent athleticism and speed to get down the seams of the defense, and a high catch radius to go with his overall strength and speed. He’s been impressive in 7 on 7’s and has good film, which has him at #2 in our rankings here.

Selfishly, we hope Alderfer—who is a standout pitcher with elite stuff—sticks with football. He’s one of the better blocking tight ends in the state and is often used as an H-Back or inserted as a lead blocker. He has a ton of projectable traits, and he doesn’t operate down the field often, and that’s a part of his game we think could be easily unlocked as a senior.

Alderfer is a handful to deal with at tight end. At 6’5, 235, blocking comes naturally to him, and he delivers it with consistency. The biggest question mark is the level of competition he faces, but his talent is undeniable. He has soft, reliable hands, and while his offense hasn’t given him many pass-catching opportunities in the past, preseason film suggests that could change this year. Expect his role in the passing game to expand.

A standout on the baseball diamond as well, Alderfer is extremely athletic, playing multiple positions on offense, defense, and special teams including defensive tackle and long-snapper. I’d like to see him clean up his 40 and drop it just a bit, but he’s highly-athletic and a smart player with strong hands.

Troy’s head coach recommended we check him out, and I have to say I’m very impressed with what Troy has put on film so far. He is definitely an under the radar prospect poised to break out big next season at both tight end and defensive end/EDGE. The reason why is simple – Troy is a great athlete with his size, and he moves with impressive fluidity in his game on both sides of the ball. Troy knows how to find holes in the middle of the field already as a tight end, and shows soft hands catching the ball. Troy can win jump balls on the outside, and he has good speed to run away from slower defenders in man coverage. Troy also shows some pass rushing skills as an EDGE, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up as he progresses in his career, but for how well he moves, I like his future at the tight end spot. Troy also already sports an impressive 3.6 GPA.
