1. Ankeny Centennial (3-0) – In what is already a wild 5A season, the Jaguars move to the head of the class with a decisive, 31-14 victory Friday night at previously top-ranked Cedar Falls. They also won at Ankeny, which defeated last week's No. 2, Dowling, on Friday. Centennial didn't have statistics from the win at Cedar Falls entered into Bound at time of publishing these rankings. [player_tooltip player_id='1286629' first='Chase' last='Kluver'], [player_tooltip player_id='1280497' first='Braeden' last='Jackson'] and Caleb Reed stood out on offense through the first two weeks. On the other side of the ball, Isaac Bruhl, Brandon Bogseth, [player_tooltip player_id='1617617' first='Ben' last='Rotert'] and Del Wesack have been among the standouts.

2. Dowling Catholic (2-1) – The Maroons stayed at No. 2 even with a 23-16 loss on Friday at previously winless Ankeny. If that score shocked you, you've not been paying attention. Central Iowa is a gauntlet. Anyway, back to Dowling. Nothing changed with the setback. It's still one of the top state title contenders. One of the main reasons is the running game, where [player_tooltip player_id='847998' first='Rashawd' last='Davis'] rushed for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns at Ankeny. [player_tooltip player_id='1279753' first='Trey' last='Wilson'] caught seven balls for 61 yards, and Aidan Ducharme, [player_tooltip player_id='1278782' first='Dylan' last='Manning'], [player_tooltip player_id='245539' first='Parker' last='Pearson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1619515' first='Jackson' last='Miller'] combined for 22 solo tackles.

3. West Des Moines Valley (2-1) – A three-point, overtime loss to Dowling last week is the only stain on Valley season. The Tigers won at three-time defending state champion Southeast Polk in Game 1, and took down visiting Johnston, 34-24, this past Friday. Junior QB [player_tooltip player_id='401870' first='Drake' last='DeGroote'] was on the money for the Tigers, completing 22 of 24 passes for 262 yards and four TDs without an interception. Jahkari Clark rushed for 140 yards, and [player_tooltip player_id='847795' first='Xzavion' last='Robinson'] caught six passes for 69 yards and a pair of scores along with a two-point conversion. [player_tooltip player_id='283945' first='Jayden' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1279870' first='Zach' last='Schemper'] each added a touchdown catch. [player_tooltip player_id='1589904' first='Andrew' last='Price'] delivered four solo tackles and a sack.

5. Cedar Falls (2-1) – While Friday night's home loss to Centennial was disappointing, the Tigers own a pair of quality victories against Johnston and Prairie. In topsy-turvy 5A, one loss does not define a season. Cedar Falls RB [player_tooltip player_id='1280019' first='Davarrion' last='Clark'] carried 19 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns against Centennial.
