We made it. During the last few months, Prep Redzone Iowa has updated its 2026-2028 Class rankings and released its initial 2029 Watch List.

More updates will be arriving in the spring as we dig into more film. So, if you haven't yet put together highlights from the 2025 season, there's time to post them before we reevaluate. It will run out quickly, however.

Few programs in the state can boast a track record as good as Ankeny's when it comes to producing talent for the next level. The Hawks annually have a varsity roster packed with guys capable of playing in college. It makes it difficult for players to break through earlier in their careers, but history tells us that there's group of them developing behind the scenes, waiting their turn. Wendel has the look of one of those guys when we watch his 2025 film working with the freshman team. The first clip shows him blocking in the run game and being directly responsible for extra yards by the back. We witness plenty more of that skill, which is advanced for his age. Wendel reaches blocks lining up in the slot, as an H-Back or in-line. He's a smooth route runner as well, flashing speed and agility.

Murzyn spent his ninth-grade season of 2025 developing on the Pleasant Valley freshman squad. It's a common path for student-athletes making their way through a program historically strong at producing prospects for the next level. Murzyn shows during his highlight tape that he could be next in line for the Spartans, those varsity contributions perhaps coming as early as this fall. He flashes potential on both sides of the ball. As a running back, he can make people miss in space with the top-end speed to pull away from them. Murzyn also can operate inside the tackles with keen vision and sharp cuts. On defense, he plays with physicality and an ability to move well in a straight line or laterally. Murzyn is one to watch in '26 and beyond.

Price is a multi-sport athlete, standing out in baseball and wrestling in addition to his exploits on the gridiron. He spent his ninth-grade football season of 2025 developing on the Linn-Mar freshman team. When we check out film on his Hudl page, we see a prospect capable of helping the Lion varsity as early as this coming fall. The first thing that stands out is Price's embracing of the game's physicality. He looks like a bowling ball steamrolling pins on a clip making a tackle against Iowa City West. He's fast and has a knack for getting off of blocks. Price diagnoses plays in a hurry, gets downhill fast and flies to the football. He's one to watch in 2026, for sure.

Turner did not record any varsity statistics as a freshman in a program that reached the second round of the Class 5A playoffs during the 2025 campaign. There's also not a lot of evidence of him playing football on his Hudl page, which only houses clips from a few plays against Johnston. On them, we witness a twitchy cornerback with fluid movements and keen instincts. His reading and recognition of plays is quick, and he breaks fast on the football. Turner also operates with physicality and wraps up in tackling. In addition to that date, there's a recent clip of him running the 60 meters indoors. He puts down a 7.02 in prelims.

Still a relatively new school, Waukee Northwest's football program has grown at a fast rate. The Wolves reached the Class 5 state semifinals for the first time in school history last fall. Northwest is developing talent through all levels of the program. De La Cruz did just that in 2025, when he competed on the freshman team. There's not a lot of footage of his campaign posted on line yet. I was able to find several clips on Hudl and on his X page. De La Cruz stands out for his length, closing speed, fluid hip movement in changing directions and keen instincts. I'd be interested in more film, but he has my attention from what I've seen.

If you're searching for a breakout performer in 2026, Storck makes an excellent candidate. As a freshman this past fall, her served as a backup to a senior starter. Storck completed 10 of his 14 passes for 84 yards and added a touchdown on the ground. When he wasn't helping out ADM's top team, the ninth-grader was developing on the junior varsity, which we can see during these highlights. There's also footage of him working out earlier this year. In both instances, we see the left-hander's technically sound operation. An easy throwing motion leads to plenty of zip for fitting the ball into tight windows. He can get the ball down the field without a lot of effort. Storck is a good athlete with speed and elusiveness that help him evade the rush and pick up ground yards. He's definitely one to watch moving forward.
