I had a solid week last week going 5-2 but I'm going to be even better this week.

LA COSTA CANYON VS. DEL NORTE

La Costa Canyon dominated a new-look St. Augustine team 37-10 last week. [player_tooltip player_id='401286' first='Quinn' last='Roth'] was excellent completing 76 percent of his passes for 255 yards with four touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='1598369' first='Coby' last='Herman'] ran for 87 yards with a touchdown and also had 111 yards receiving with a touchdown. Jackson Maggiore caught five passes for 101 yards with a touchdown as well. La Costa Canyon's defense had seven sacks against St. Augustine and 10 tackles for a loss. Tanner Doyle led all tacklers with 14 and Lucas White had 1.5 sacks. Del Norte beat Point Loma 20-7 and quarterback Diesel Taylor completed 75 percent of passes for 190 yards with a touchdown. Giovanny Limon and Kaden Barnett each had 11 tackles for Del Norte's defense and Tristan Teerer had a sack. Both teams are solid this year but Roth is one of the better quarterbacks in San Diego County.

EDISON VS. YORBA LINDA

Yorba Linda had a dominant win last week over a Mayfair team that won a lower-level CIF championship last season. The breakout performance of the game was from Cole Nerio who ran for 157 yards with four touchdowns. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1293191' first='Troy' last='Roberts'] also ran for 113 yards on just four carries and had 157 yards receiving with a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='1158506' first='Holden' last='Nagin'] completed 75 percent of his passes for 198 yards with a touchdown. Onassis Lim led the defense with 11 tackles and Owen Smith had five tackles with two for a loss. Edison lost by one to an underrated Clovis West team. Montana commit [player_tooltip player_id='348172' first='Julius' last='Gillick'] ran for 153 yards with two touchdowns and Savelio Niumata had two touchdown passes. [player_tooltip player_id='1213810' first='Jack' last='Knudtson'] had 13 tackles to lead the defense with a sack and a fumble recovery. These are two quality Orange County public schools and I think Edison is a big jump in talent from the Mayfair team Yorba Linda beat last week.

The pick: Edison

NARBONNE VS. LOS ALAMITOS

Narbonne is the odds on favorite to win the LA City Section Open Division championship this season. [player_tooltip player_id='401257' first='Jaden' last='O'Neal'] threw for 188 yards and also ran for two touchdowns in Narbonne's 28-14 win over Garfield last week. Los Alamitos laid down a 71-0 beating on Western in week zero. [player_tooltip player_id='221860' first='Jerod' last='Terry Jr']. had a big day running the ball with three touchdowns and [player_tooltip player_id='1598356' first='Lenny' last='Ibarra'] also had three touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='282704' first='Alonzo' last='Esparza'] was efficient with 144 yards on just seven completions with a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='1158481' first='Justice' last='Croffie'] returned an interception for a touchdown for Los Alamitos. I think Narbonne is talented enough to hang with some good Southern Section teams, but Los Alamitos isn't one of them.

WARREN VS. SERRA

Both of these teams had disappointing losses in week zero. UCLA commit [player_tooltip player_id='282717' first='Madden' last='Iamaleava'] threw a pair of interceptions for Warren in a loss to Kamehameha Kapalama of Hawaii. He did throw a touchdown pass to fellow UCLA commit [player_tooltip player_id='282691' first='Jace' last='Brown'] and Jay'Mari Redmond returned an interception for a touchdown. Serra suffered a close loss to Orange Lutheran but had moments where they showed promise. Quarterback Jimmy Butler threw for 223 yards and ran for two touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='723769' first='CJ' last='McBean'] had an excellent game on both sides of the ball and the defensive line, led by [player_tooltip player_id='780328' first='Khary' last='Wilder'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282713' first='Tre' last='Harrison'] had four sacks. Orange Lutheran coach Rod Sherman was very complimentary of Serra's secondary led by Daylawn Reed, McBean and [player_tooltip player_id='283646' first='Marcellous' last='Ryan']. This game will be very close and Warren can win if it limits the turnovers it had last week.

LINCOLN VS. LONG BEACH POLY

Long Beach Poly got blown out by a very good Folsom team. [player_tooltip player_id='780273' first='Kamarie' last='Smith'] is an electric receiver who is one of the better playmakers in the area. [player_tooltip player_id='1655382' first='Deuce' last='Jefferson'] had a touchdown run and a touchdown pass for Poly in the loss. Lincoln lost to Arbor View of Nevada in an intense 45-44 game. [player_tooltip player_id='406658' first='Akili' last='Smith Jr.'] threw for 371 yards with four touchdowns and ran for a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='406718' first='Ty' last='Olsen'] was one of the players of the week with 300 yards receiving on 12 receptions with four touchdowns. Lincoln's defense struggled but [player_tooltip player_id='723770' first='Abdulahi' last='Sharif'] had two interceptions. This game should also be close but Lincoln has a bit more varsity experience.

SERVITE VS. MURRIETA VALLEY

Servite was dominant in a win over East High of Salt Lake City, Utah. Michigan State commit [player_tooltip player_id='406664' first='Leo' last='Hannan'] threw five touchdown passes to five different receivers. San Diego State commit [player_tooltip player_id='723744' first='Quaid' last='Carr'] had a touchdown reception and a touchdown run. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1621233' first='Kaleb' last='Aiava'] led the defense with seven tackles and three interceptions. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1000976' first='Elijah' last='Rincon'] had a sack and a pass deflection. Murrieta Valley beat Rancho Cucamonga without its star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='282686' first='Bear' last='Bachmeier']. Sophomore Asher Dewitt managed the game well and we will see if Bachmeier is ready to play this week. [player_tooltip player_id='1027779' first='Dorian' last='Hoze'] ran for 182 yards with five touchdowns and earned one of Prep Redzone's top performer honors. [player_tooltip player_id='723703' first='Isaiah' last='Ayers'] had 10 tackles and Vincent Ingram had a sack. Lima Tofilau-Hernandez had an interception and so did [player_tooltip player_id='1291283' first='Darius' last='Johnson']. Murrieta Valley has a chance if Bachmeier plays, but if he doesn't Servite can make them one dimensional.

OAKS CHRISTIAN VS. SIERRA CANYON

Sierra Canyon's offense looked awful in a 35-7 loss to JSerra, but that may be because JSerra is really good. [player_tooltip player_id='282687' first='Wyatt' last='Becker'] struggled completing just 39 percent of his passes for 77 yards and [player_tooltip player_id='282703' first='Dane' last='Dunn'] was held to 1.4 yards per carry. Myles Baker and [player_tooltip player_id='1000953' first='Ronen' last='Zamorano'] racked up tackles on defense and [player_tooltip player_id='401278' first='Madden' last='Riordan'] had another two interceptions. Oaks Christian beat Chaminade on the blue turf due to a 139 yards rushing and two touchdowns from [player_tooltip player_id='212217' first='Deshonne' last='Redeaux']. Axel Eason threw for 204 yards but didn't throw a touchdown pass. [player_tooltip player_id='406649' first='Christian' last='Knoos'] had 10 tackles with two for a loss and a sack. [player_tooltip player_id='1258439' first='Easton' last='Thompson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1611347' first='Bryan' last='Narcisse'] each had interceptions. If I had to pick this game before last week's results, I would have picked Sierra Canyon. I don't want to overreact to a bad performance on the road against a Trinity League team.
