Continue ReadingThompson checks into our rankings as a top ten linebacker in the latest update, and is having a productive off-season after coming off a solid junior campaign. He is a high IQ plug in the middle of the Lewiston defense, and can shoot gaps in a hurry while a sure tackler in the box and can get off/evade blocks with ease. Thomson shows good lateral movement abilities when scraping over the top, and flashes he can apply pressure off the edge and up the middle with good timing and brings a nice pop at contact. He is another kid that is a no brainer D3 player that should fit nicely at outside linebacker in college, with the ability to pack on more weight to his frame.
Martinez is a very active outside linebacker that shows he can set the edge, come up and take on lead blockers and flashes closing speed and range out in space. He is a downhill player that has a quick trigger and is a sure tackler outside the box, while able to cover in the flats/downfield with ease against bigger receivers and backs. On film, he flashes good instincts in coverage with ball skills and return abilities as well. In the run game, he does a nice job at setting the edge and using his hands to get off blocks while also able to rush the passer with bend and a quick use of hands at the POA. He is another no brainer D3+ player at the next level that should draw college interest through this off-season and during his last season for Meridian.
Chris Zabel
Chris Zabel
Zabel anchors both sides of the ball for one of the more respected programs in Idaho, and is a very athletic kid with good movement abilities in space, and fits nicely at the tackle position, although will kick inside in college most likely. He is a physical run blocker that can get an immediate vertical push and shows consistent leg drive and a strong punch at the POA while able to pull and get to the second level with ease. In pass protection, he shows he can anchor against bull rushers, and plays with patient hands without lunging and can post against counter’s as well. He should have plenty of D3 schools sowing interest as he wraps up his prep career, and is in line for a huge senior season for the Vikings.
