He is comfortable in zone cover 3 with fluid hips, maintaining good positioning and over the top leverage. In man coverage, Whaley showcases good ability to mirror and match with plus patience and twitch. Whaley will mix up his techniques to throws WR’s off their game. Very good ball skills and playmaking ability, he creates turnovers and plus plays. Excellent transitional ability and shows solid anticipation skills to put himself in an advantageous position.

A natural athlete with fluid body movements, Whaley comes from a top notch football program that will certainly continue to develop his skill set but currently, this Red Raider defender sits under the radar, waiting for his first college offer. Whaley is a two sport guy who has put a lot of focus on basketball and that may be where his future lies but on film, he shows excellent upside as a versatile defensive back that could play on the outside at cover corner. The Red Raiders senior prospect has active, quick feet along with nice hip movements that allow him to stay on track with the receiver. He also shows ball hawk tendencies as well, so Whaley could line up at free safety or nickelback due to his instincts and natural athletic abilities. More work must be done with his body and overall game but Whaley shows strong upside for the college game, if he fully embraces his football potential.

Playing among a bevy of future college players as a junior last season, Whaley is a talented playmaker that shows on film the upside to develop and become a possible starter on the college gridiron. Looking into the Fall, Whaley is expected to take on a bigger role, giving him an opportunity to shine by showing off his quick instincts and natural feel for playing around the football. This two sport star (basketball) has natural athleticism that shows up strong on film as Whaley has good ball skills and the versatility to play multiple roles within the secondary. He does need to add more strength and weight as he is a bit thin right now but the frame is there to take on more size. Whaley is a guy that could boost his stock tremendously with strong performances this summer at camps and throughout his upcoming senior season that could push his PRZTN ranking into the possible Top 15 at his position.
