He chose Black Hills State over Saint John’s, Puget Sound, Western New Mexico and Kenyon College among others.

Carrigan had 40 tackles, six for a loss, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery last season for Santa Margarita.
He was on my radar as a sophomore after he was a top performer at a Prep Redzone Showcase before he even got to Santa Margarita. Carrigan excels as an edge rusher who closes to the ball quickly and can make tackles in the run game on the opposite side of the line before the ball reaches the line of scrimmage. He’s a good force player when he has outside contain and has good instincts in pass coverage.

Carrigan is one of those linebackers you don’t have to take off the field on passing downs because he’s very effective in pass coverage. His lateral quickness stands out and he looked comfortable during all the drills.

Carrigan is an active defender with a versatile skillset to effectively play multiple positions on D. At 5’10” 205 lbs. he can be a three-down defender with his ability to stop the run and drop back in coverage. He flashes great reactionary quickness and processing skills of his reads. He’s decisive and triggers without hesitation when breaking on the ball. His athleticism and lateral quickness make him a tough block especially in space. He’s able to slips blocks by avoiding contact as he closes space on the ball carrier. Runs well both in the short area and in pursuit while also being a strong one on one open field tackler. As a tackler, he attacks the ball carrier with good leverage and pad level. He drives his feet through contact and explodes his hips at the POA to finish. Matter of when not if that initial offer comes in.

Carrigan was putting together a strong camp before being shut down due to injury. He’s an athletic LB measuring in at 5’10”/205 that finished at the top of every testing category among LBs, except for the 40 where finished second. He showed promising lateral quickness and fluid movement during the indy period. On tape, he’s a versatile defender that can play between the tackles or out in space, shows great closing speed to the ball, and comes off blocks well. Only a sophomore, Carrigan should be a standout defender for Santa Margarita after transferring in from Los Alamitos.

Carrigan earned First Team All-League honors for Los Alamitos last season and has since transferred to Santa Margarita.
He is an outside backer who closes to the ball quickly and is very good in zone coverage. He should excel in the 1-on-1 drills against the running backs.

Carrigan saw some snaps at middle linebacker for Los Alamitos last year as a freshman. He had 42 tackles, which is the most for a returning player on Los Alamitos’ defense.
He moves well laterally and is very aggressive when defending the run game. He is in the backfield before the offensive lineman can get off his double team to block him.
