Havon Finney Jr.
Havon Finney Jr.
About Havon
Expert Analysis
Matt Moreno | Prep Redzone Scout
Serra mostly stayed away from the elite cornerback currently committed to LSU. Finney did get an opportunity to showcase his abilities on a tipped pass that he ultimately intercepted with a one-handed grab. The senior has great instincts and awareness, which both showed up on that play. He was great in coverage and ended the night with two tackles in addition to his interception returned for a touchdown.

Finney offers natural length and size to the corner position that is very rare, especially for someone of his age starting his prep career. He is part of this loaded ’27 defensive back class in California, and might be the best one by the time it’s all said and done. He will also be one of the top corner prospects in the country by the time his prep career comes to an end, and is a lock to be a 25+ offer kid by the time he makes his college choice. Finney Jr. currently holds offers from Michigan State, Georgia, Washington, BYU, Oregon, USC, WSU, and SDSU among others. He has great length for the corner position, and does a good job at using his long arms in press coverage while able to easily turn and run with receivers due to his length and downfield speed, and flashes strong hands when jumping routes and has a understanding of zone coverage responsibilities. He is a natural peddler with fluid hips when breaking, changing direction and breaks without taking false steps and triggers through ball carriers when tackling. A no brainer top corner in his class nationally, he is one to watch in 2024 across California.

Finney Jr. is a really talented prospect I like out of Southern California. In fact, a year ago, he was one of the first 2027 prospects I covered on PRZ Next. Last year played for the OG Ducks organization and caught my eye as a seventh-grader playing up on the eventual AYF National Championship team, comprised mostly of eighth-graders. This year, Finny Jr. IS an eighth-grader is playing for the OC Buckeyes and is really starting to come along as one of the top Defensive Backs in the country. His ability to play at a high level on both sides of the ball is why I’ve left him as an Athlete, but I think he’s certainly starting to fit in that DB mold long term. He first rocked the boat of the recruiting world back in 2017 when he was verbally offered a scholarship by the University of Nevada at nine-years old. Yes, you read that right.
