He also had offers from Northern Arizona and Sacramento State. Cook is the second player from California in UNLV’s 2027 recruiting class and the second defensive lineman.

Cook had 37 tackles, nine for a loss, four sacks and seven hurries for Tustin last season. He has very good short-area quickness and has been a good performer on the camp circuit the past few years. Cook would be the best defensive lineman on a lot of teams in the county but sometimes gets overlooked behind the big names at Tustin. He would excel in an all star game like this.

Saturday was my first time seeing Cook in person since a Prep Redzone showcase last January and he has improved a bit. His agility was nice during the bag drills and the most impressive thing about him is his quick hands.
In one-on-ones, he often was able to bat away the offensive lineman’s hands before they could get a hand on him. He throws a good club move and will get even better with more time in the weight room.

Cook impressed me with his footwork during the individual drills and figure eight drill.
He gets off the ball quickly but sometimes takes wasted steps instead of immediately getting his hands on the offensive lineman. Once he does get his hands on the opponent, he has a strong punch and is an aggressive hand fighter.
Cook is a skilled pass rusher who is excellent when being aggressive and using his quick hands. He needs to live in the weight room this offseason, but he has the tools to be a contributor for Mater Dei’s defensive line.
