Expert Analysis

Waddell keeps creeping up towards the top of the rankings after a strong season and offseason. He’s a guy I keep hearing will have a huge senior year, as he’s putting on good weight and refining his already impressive route-running. He’s a developmental Power Four prospect in that — at this time — it looks like he’ll probably need a year at the college level before he becomes a reliable starter there, but there’s plenty of untapped potential.

Though he operates primarily out of the slot, Waddell’s game is more like a typical Z-receiver’s, making him a tough evaluation. He has the movement skills and route tree to succeed inside, but his ball skills mimic a bigger receiver’s. If he can add some weight, he can become one of the more well-rounded prospects in the state, with the ability to win in multiple different ways.

Though his raw numbers are similar, Waddell improved several aspects of his game in 2024. He was better at the catch point, cut down on drops, and added more nuance to his route-running. He’s been hot on the recruiting trail as well, picking up several offers from Group of Five and a few Power Four schools. As he continues to progress, he’s a guy to watch.

Gavin scored a big Touchdown last Friay night against Cardinal Gibbons, the big time Jr prospect has been making big time plays all season long. Waddell is considered one of the best WR in the class of 2026 and he has the stats and play to back it up. Gavin is less than 80 yards from 1k on the season, and he has 11 receiving touchdowns so far. Waddell’s ability/threat to stretch the field had impacting the Rams running game tremendously.

Gavin was impressive with great speed as he got behind the Butler defense a couple of times for big plays. Gavin also made some nice catches, showing soft hands in the process. I also liked Gavin’s route running – his catches came on a nice variety of routes concepts. Gavin finished with 9 catches for 165 yards and a touchdown.
