Expert Analysis
Jared Valluzzi | Prep Redzone Scout
Going into the season, many folks thought Palumbo was the top linebacker in the state, and he was as advertised during his senior year. He had 110 tackles, 6 sacks, 7 TFL’s along with 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. He is a true sideline to sideline linebacker who made his presence felt every game. He will be playing football at Yale next fall.

Palumbo makes a strong argument as the top linebacker in a very talented league this season. He had a monster junior campaign with 93 tackles. The Yale commit has fantastic instincts and last year he was all over the field. He was delivering hard hits and was reliable in pass coverage. With JT Krivinskas graduating, Palumbo will be one of the most productive linebackers in the league this year.

picked up his second IVY league offer and it comes from the local Columbia University in New York. Palumbo is one of the top linebackers in the state and received pretty solid interest from IVY’s so far.

just got his first offer and it comes from UPenn after a Junior Day visit. Palumbo also has visited Yale and Dartmouth on Junior Day visits and it looks like this offer from Penn could kick start some serious Ivy League interest.

is very versatile linebacker that excels in coverage and working in space. Palumbo has great length at 6-4 and he uses that frame to be effective in coverage against tight ends, running backs, and even many receivers. Palumbo has really solid ball skills and does a good job of getting his head around when is covering 1v1 but also can keep his eyes keyed on the QB in zone coverage to read and anticipate throws. Palumbo is also a really solid blitzer and does a good job of using quickness and timing to win as a pass rusher. With really good feel for the game and awareness Palumbo reads the game well and does a good job of making the right play and not being over aggressive. Palumbo is a really solid tackler and does a good job of wrapping players up and when he is the second man to the ball prioritizes attempting to punch the ball or strip it loose. Overall, Palumbo is similar to the prototype of a modern linebacker and while he excels in multiple facets of the game he has not shown to be a standout defender but rather just a good defender on a good defense. Palumbo has all the tools but if he could really take the next step and be more physical and standout consistently he could move up the rankings and hold onto the top LB spot in the state.

was one of the best defensive playmakers in the front seven of the stacked Archbishop Stepinac defense. Palumbo is really solid as a run defender, linebacker in coverage, and as a blitzer. Palumbo’s solid athleticism and elite length give him really solid coverage skills and make him really hard to throw around especially in zone coverage. As a run defender Palumbo has really good instincts and does a good job of taking explosive first steps to the ball. Palumbo has the most well-rounded game of the linebackers in this class and physical traits make him the complete package.
