was one of the best players in all of New York this year and the NYCHSFL player of the year was a key piece on a Stepinac defense that held some of the NYCHSFL’s top offenses in check. Douglas who plays with elite instincts reads and reacts to the game quickly. Douglas shows some versatility in his alignment because of how well he sees the game. Consistently around the ball, Douglas is a willing and efficient tackler and shows in coverage he can find the ball and make plays at the catch point. A prospect that can be a versatile defensive piece at the next level.

The AAA defensive player of the year had a special senior season. Douglas was one of the most entertaining players in all of New York. He had 112 tackles, 4 interceptions and 9 pass breakups. Douglas was a bone crushing safety who often came downhill and lowered the boom. Not only was he one of the best open field tacklers, Douglas was also tremendous in pass coverage. He showed off great speed and ball skills every game. He also made plays on offense and in the return game when his team needed him.

The other half of the most exciting defensive back duo in the state. Deonte Douglas is a phenomenal safety and he just committed to the University of New Hampshire. He’s one of the hardest hitters at the position. The Prep Redzone Catholic League Preseason Player of the Year does it all. Douglas is a ball hawk and can also carry the rock on offense. Look out for him to make an impact in the return game as well.

He earned over 9,000 votes and won the Preseason POTY Poll. Douglas is one of the best all around athletes in the state. He finally earned the recognition he deserved after a fantastic summer. Douglas is a true triple threat for Stepinac as he will make an enormous impact in all three phases of the game at a very high level. On defense he was one of the top DB’s in the catholic league last year. He was one of the hardest hitting safeties in New York and very few players played with the intensity that Douglas had on defense. He had a nose for the ball and delivered some highlight reel hits and interceptions. The Stepinac product also was a monster in the return game. If you kicked it towards him, he had the vision and speed to take it to the house. He also was excellent as a ball carrier and he had a special game against St Anthony’s.

continues to add to his FCS arsenal of offers, New Hampshire is the latest to jump in offering the top safety prospect in 2023. Douglas now has offers from Rhode Island, LIU, Sacred Heart, and New Hampshire and I think that list will continue to grow before the fall season starts.

picked up his first offer from Rhode Island right after the season concluded but things are starting to heat up again for the top safety in New York. Stony Brook, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Columbia, Miami (OH), Delaware, Temple, and Merrimack have all reached out to Douglas and invited him to practices, Junior Days, or shown interest. Douglas also just picked up his second offer from Long Island University.

Deonte Douglas has one of the best feels for the game of any defender in this class. Douglas is an explosive athlete that not only displays strong ball skills but has the ability to athletically work against any opponent in New York State. Douglas does his best work in space where his mirroring in off coverage and ability to make plays at the catch point are his best traits. Douglas has great range and his explosiveness and acceleration allow him to make plays and get to balls not many other safeties can get to. As a tackler, Douglas plays above his size and uses physicality to win and finish plays. Overall, Douglas is one of the best playmakers on defense in New York. In limited in action on offense Douglas even shines their due to his elite athleticism.

had an incredible season as a defensive back. Douglas has some of the best short-area quickness and burst of any player in New York and he has incredible instincts as a defender. When I saw Douglas play in person he also had some offensive snaps where he easily was the most electric player on the field. However, as a defender Douglas is really physical defensive back who can be a really effective player in the run game. In coverage Douglas does a really good job of tracking the ball down the field and making plays at the catch point. Douglas also has some really solid positional versatility taking snaps all over the defensive backfield for Stepinac. Douglas currently holds an offer from Rhode Island and is not too far away from getting some more attention from D1 schools.

Although Douglas ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard he was essentially singlehandedly responsible for sparking an incredible Stepinac comeback in the 3rd quarter. In the third quarter alone, Douglas had 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 interception, and 1 onside kick recovery. Douglas, usually only a defender, was given the opportunity to run the ball when Stepinac made the call to switch things up and run the triple option. It paid off for Douglas as Stepinac’s offense started moving the ball with him and

and clawing back into the game. Unfortunately, Douglas sustained a shoulder injury in the 4th quarter on a run in the RedZone and would not return to the game. Douglas’ exit would spell trouble as without him the Stepinac offense could not go back to the triple option which gave them so much success. No word on how serious the injury is yet but Stepinac will hope Douglas can return in the playoffs soon because he showed up against St. Anthony’s and gave our scouts and incredible performance to evaluate.
