WEEK ZERO TOP PERFORMERS

[player_tooltip player_id='1743237' first='Alex' last='Houk'] - Junior Running Back - Fairview

We wrote in our week zero recap how it was crystal clear that Fairview wasn't going anywhere as a serious contender. They beat up on 2A-2's #5 Alva, winning 56-0. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1743237' first='Alex' last='Houk'] was dominant in the win. Houk ran for nearly 150 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries. Fairview has been torching defenses through the air for several years in a row but if the season opener was any indication, the Yellowjackets are going to be a team that relies on the running game. And the junior running back had a great start to his season on Friday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1328091' first='Cooper' last='McCord'] - Senior Quarterback - Adair

The Adair Warriors are one of the serious contenders in Class 2A-1 and the season opener was a good example of how explosive they could be on offense. They beat the Bulldogs 40-14 on Friday night. They were once again led by senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1328091' first='Cooper' last='McCord'] and he could not be stopped in the air or on the ground. McCord threw for nearly 300 yards and five touchdowns on 15-22 passing. He also added nine carries for a little over 100 yards and a touchdown. 2A-2 is definitely a top-heavy class but Adair is one of the main contenders for sure.

[player_tooltip player_id='1461909' first='Hunter' last='Purvis'] - Junior Wide Receiver - Jones

The Jones Longhorns rolled to a 56-6 victory over Luther in the season opener on Friday night. The Longhorns lit up the scoreboard and had plenty of standouts. But junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1461909' first='Hunter' last='Purvis'] really stood out with his efficient performance on Friday night. He had five catches but they went for 122 yards and three touchdowns on the night. It was a strong season opener all the way around and now Purvis and the Longhorns will shift their attention to their week one clash with another 2A-1 top ten team in Kiefer on Friday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1473214' first='Ja' last='Posey'] - Junior Quarterback - Pocola

Pocola has high expectations heading into 2025 and the return of junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1473214' first='Ja' last='Posey'] is a big reason for that. Posey was a breakout star last season, becoming one of the state's top passers. And as the Indians opened the season against Antlers Friday night, Posey picked up right where he left off. Posey threw for just over 400 yards and four touchdowns on 28-36 passing. He also added a touchdown on the ground. And that feels like it could end up being a typical stat line for Posey, who can absolutely sling the ball all over the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='402376' first='Jeramiah' last='Ssettimba'] - Senior Quarterback - Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow went over to northwest Arkansas and dominated offensively and beating Springdale Har-Ber 35-14. The Tigers were led by their senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402376' first='Jeramiah' last='Ssettimba'] and he definitely filled up the stat sheet. He went 13-18 for just shy of 300 yards. He also had six carries for 76 yards and accounted for four touchdowns on the night. Broken Arrow has a lot of firepower on the offensive side of the ball but it doesn't go anywhere without Ssettimba pulling the strings at the quarterback position. He got off to a great start for his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='482118' first='Kaden' last='Longman'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Newcastle

Newcastle made the long road trip up north to face Bartlesville and they were in a bit of a shootout for the first few quarters. The Racers eventually pulled away behind the performance of senior [player_tooltip player_id='482118' first='Kaden' last='Longman'] in all three aspects of the game. Offensively, Longman finished with seven catches and nearly 150 yards and two touchdowns. He also took two kickoffs back for touchdowns and he had seven tackles and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. It was hands down a complete performance and perhaps the best overall performance of week zero.

[player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] - Sophomore Quarterback/Defensive Back - Rejoice Christian

Rejoice Christian sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] has firmly established himself as one of the state's top 2028 prospects and Friday was a great example of why. Defending champ Rejoice rolled to a 48-27 victory over NOAH and Compton-Nero was dominant on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he threw for over 350 yards and four touchdowns on 19-27 passing. He also added nearly 100 yards on the ground and as if that wasn't enough, he turned around and had two interceptions on the defensive side of the ball for a complete performance in week zero.

[player_tooltip player_id='935005' first='Kane' last='Foreman'] - Senior Quarterback - Pawhuska

In his first start with his new team, Pawhuska senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='935005' first='Kane' last='Foreman'] did not have a slow start. Foreman torched Nowata as the Huskies lit up the scoreboard, winning 60-18 on Friday night. Foreman threw for just under 250 yards and six touchdowns. He went 16-21 on the night so he had more touchdown passes than incompletions. Foreman is making the transition from 8-man to 11-man football this season as he joined the Huskies earlier this year. He's a big reason why Pawhuska was a top five team in Class A-1 coming into this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] - Senior Running Back - Jenks

Jenks senior running back and Oklahoma State commit [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] has widely been considered one of the best players in the state and he backed up the hype in the season opener. The Trojans rolled to a 51-7 victory at Edmond Santa Fe Friday night. Jones finished the night with over 200 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. He scored two other touchdowns that were negated by penalties, including a punt return for a score, which could have given him touchdowns as a runner, receiver and returner. It was an electric start to the senior season for Jones.

[player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] - Senior Quarterback - Metro Christian

Metro Christian opened the season with a 35-18 victory over visiting Chisholm on Friday night. The Patriots expect to contend for the 2A-1 crown and senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] is a big reason why. Eng was incredibly explosive on the offensive side of the ball. Between passing and rushing, Eng was very productive, finishing with just shy of 400 yards of total offense and he helped account for two touchdowns in the win. Eng was a breakout star for the Patriots last season and now he appears to be one of the top returning quarterbacks in Class 2A-1 this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1599209' first='Knoxtyn' last='Rallo'] - Sophomore Athlete - Piedmont

Piedmont made quite the statement on Friday night by beating Midwest City 53-0. The Wildcats were once again by an outstanding rushing attack that had multiple players finish with over 100 yards on the ground. Sophomore standout [player_tooltip player_id='1599209' first='Knoxtyn' last='Rallo'] couldn't be kept out of the end zone throughout the evening. He had seven carries that went for 119 yards and four touchdowns. More than half of his touches ended up with Rallo in the end zone. He was one of the first 2028 prospects in the state to earn a D1 offer and Friday's performance was a reason why.

[player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] - Junior Quarterback - Talihina

Talihina comes into the 2025 football season with basically everyone back and a hunger to return to Edmond to contend for the state title once again. They rolled to a 67-7 victory over Summit Christian to kick off their 2025 campaign. And junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] picked up right where he left off last season as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in Oklahoma. Griffith threw for over 250 yards and three touchdowns on 12-13 passing. He also had 27 yards and two touchdowns on the ground on four carries. Griffith could put up huge numbers this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1045558' first='Luke' last='Quinter'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Bethel

Bethel had to survive a high-scoring affair with Little Axe on Friday night but they prevailed 48-41 to start the season 1-0. It shouldn't be a surprise at this point but Bethel was led by senior two-way star [player_tooltip player_id='1045558' first='Luke' last='Quinter'] at running back and linebacker. Offensively, Quinter finished with nearly 150 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Defensively, he finished the night with ten tackles and a sack. Quinter has been one of the more underrated but productive two-way players in Class 2A-1 in the last few seasons and he started his senior season off with a bang.

[player_tooltip player_id='1831002' first='Nathan' last='Hobbs'] - Junior Linebacker - Bixby

We already wrote about Bixby junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1831002' first='Nathan' last='Hobbs'] on Friday, following their 49-21 win over Owasso Thursday night. On a field that featured some legitimate D1 star power on both sides, Hobbs felt like the best player on the field at various times. Hobbs was an absolute madman on defense, finishing with nine tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and an eye-popping six pass breakups. Even when Hobbs couldn't get to the QB, he was still making an impact. Bixby has a long history of game-changing linebackers and Hobbs feels like he's the next guy up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1299977' first='Peyton' last='Stelling'] - Junior Running Back - Verdigris

Verdigris had to suffer through a winless season in 2024 but the Cardinals are back in the win column following a 42-34 win over Beggs Friday night. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1299977' first='Peyton' last='Stelling'] had a terrific performance in the season opener. He was a complete offensive threat and was incredibly productive. Stelling finished the night with nearly 150 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He was also one of their leading receivers. He had five catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. We mentioned this summer how Verdigris brought back almost everyone and could bounce back in a major way.

[player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] - Senior Running Back - Elgin

Defending 4A champion Elgin doubled up Lawton MacArthur 42-21 on Friday night and it looks like they aren't going to miss a beat as one of the top running teams in the state this season. Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] could. not be contained on Friday night as he is very clearly going to be one of the top workhorse backs in the state. Meyer finished with 25 carries for 166 yards and five touchdowns. Meyer was also productive on defense at linebacker and he also made some plays as a pass catcher out of the backfield. He could be primed for a monster season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1335932' first='Spencer' last='Perry'] - Senior Running Back - Poteau

Poteau got first year head coach Jake Hayes his first win in shutout fashion with a 28-0 win over Booneville, Arkansas. While it's expected that Poteau will become much more balanced on the offensive side of the ball, it was still the running game that did a lot of damage Friday night. Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1335932' first='Spencer' last='Perry'] had a terrific performance in the season opener. He finished with 23 carries for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns. While Poteau might become more balanced, they clearly know they can rely on Perry to be that workhorse back.

[player_tooltip player_id='1359999' first='Tyson' last='Kennedy'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Tuttle

Tuttle was absolutely dominant in their Thursday night clash with Guthrie. The Tigers beat the Blue Jays 38-13 and they had multiple players that stood out throughout the night. But it was newcomer [player_tooltip player_id='1359999' first='Tyson' last='Kennedy'] on both sides of the ball that got a lot of praise. Kennedy, who moved to Tuttle from Enid at the start of this year, finished the night with nine catches for just over 150 yards and a touchdown. He also had an interception on the defensive side of the ball. Tuttle lost their top two playmakers at WR to graduation and Kennedy looks like a guy that can fill that void.
