But it's now 2025 and it's time to take a far too early look at the 2025 football season and we continue in Class 6A-2. Now again, it's January and we are seven months away from the 2025 season kicking off so there are quite a few things that can change between now and then. For instance, looking back at our way too early look at the 2024 season in Class 6A-2, we couldn't see what was coming with the emergency redistricting shuffle. Deer Creek was #2 in 6A-2 at this time last year but was bumped up to 6A-1 in April. Now, we probably won't have another emergency redistricting shuffle in a few months but it's time to take a look ahead and see how 2025 could shape up.

WAY TOO EARLY TOP TEN FOR CLASS 6A-2

1) CHOCTAW
- Choctaw has been chasing the gold ball and now they go into a season where they have to defend it. The Yellowjackets are the team to beat not only because they are defending champs but because of all the talent they bring back. They might have the best backfield duo in the state with QB [player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] and RB [player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] after both had explosive 2024 seasons. Defensively, the Yellowjackets seem to have more and more playmakers emerging that will end up at the D1 level. 2026 DB [player_tooltip player_id='1179994' first='Da'Jon' last='Green'] emerged last offseason and 2027 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1176238' first='Israel' last='Hammons'] emerged during the season as a versatile star for the state champs.

2) SAND SPRINGS
- We are incredibly excited about the potential of this Sand Springs team going into the 2025 season and specifically on the offensive side of the ball. They return a four-year starter at quarterback with [player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] and he was our Most Improved Player for the 2024 season. They also have a pair of playmaking 2027 wide receivers returning with [player_tooltip player_id='1530080' first='Dom' last='Forbes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1297670' first='Tristian' last='Birmingham'] in 2025 and that could make this offense arguably the best unit in Class 6A-2. The Sandites have been knocking on the door of being a team that makes it to Edmond over the last few years. Maybe 2025 is the year they kick that door down.

3) STILLWATER
- Stillwater looks to make it back to Edmond after coming up short in the semifinal round in 2024. The Pioneers need to find a new quarterback this offseason but whoever that ends up being will have two of the best wide receivers in 6A-2 football. 2027 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='492378' first='Deakon' last='Jones'] took the next step during his sophomore season and 2028 wideout [player_tooltip player_id='1214367' first='David' last='Thomas'] is a star in the making, coming off a productive freshman season. The Pioneers also have a very disruptive defender with 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='467410' first='Nehemiah' last='Kolone'] coming back, making Stillwater one of the top teams in Class 6A-2 once again as we head into 2025.

4) MUSKOGEE
- The Muskogee Roughers go into 2025 after back to back trips to the state championship game. The Roughers won it all in 2023 before falling to Choctaw in 2024. But 2025 is going to look very different than what we're used to seeing from the Roughers over the last few seasons. First off, they have to find a way to replace arguably the best quarterback in school history as [player_tooltip player_id='211556' first='Jamarian' last='Ficklin'] graduates and heads to Utah. The Roughers also have a new head coach in Hall Of Famer Dale Condict after he turned Wagoner into an absolute monster for the last two decades. Now he looks to replicate his success there at Muskogee.

5) PUTNAM CITY
- When we look at what Putnam City could be potentially bringing back in 2025, it's hard not to like the Pirates and specifically on the defensive side of the ball. 2026 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1607343' first='Tripp' last='Alexander'] had double digit sacks in 2024, 2027 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabriel' last='Osborne'] is a star in the making and the Pirates have another 2026 prospect that is in the middle of blowing up right now on the recruiting trail with [player_tooltip player_id='1624786' first='DJ' last='Ackerson'] and he could end up being one of the top defensive prospects in the 2026 class. On paper, the Pirates have a lot to like and they could build off their quarterfinal appearance in 2024 and go even further in 2025.

6) PIEDMONT
- In their first season competing in Class 6A-2, Piedmont didn't back down from the challenge. They would go 7-5 and make it to the quarterfinals. They finished #5 in our 6A-2 rankings and it wouldn't be surprising if they're even higher than we have them here at #6 when our preseason rankings come out in late June. We just watched their 2026 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1339151' first='Grayson' last='May'] absolutely tear it up at our camp on Sunday and they have a 2028 standout in [player_tooltip player_id='1599209' first='Knoxtyn' last='Rallo'] who is already on the radar of D1 coaches in the region. Piedmont could very well reload and make another run in Class 6A-2 in 2025 after exceeding preseason expectations in 2024.

7) SAPULPA
- The Sapulpa Chieftains got bumped up to Class 6A-2 back in April after expecting to be in Class 5A. The Chieftains responded by making it to the playoffs and they won their first round game before falling to eventual champion Choctaw in the quarterfinals. Looking up and down the Sapulpa roster, this looks like a pretty senior-heavy team but they will return their quarterback in [player_tooltip player_id='1035272' first='Braddox' last='Broughton'] and he should have some momentum during this offseason after his first year in a new system. If he can take the next step and the Chieftains have new players emerge, this could be a dark horse to keep an eye on.

8) PUTNAM CITY NORTH
- The Putnam City North Panthers were one of the surprise teams of the 2024 season. The Panthers lost a lot of talent off their 2023 team but PC North would actually benefit from being sent east in their district and they took full advantage. PC North would finish third in the district and that helped them have a higher seed, win their first round game and make it to the 6A-2 quarterfinals. Now, looking ahead to the 2025 season, we have no idea what to expect from the Panthers. At this time last year, we didn't have high expectations and they certainly proved us wrong so maybe they run it back and do it again in 2025.

9) LAWTON EISENHOWER
- Lawton Eisenhower finished the 2024 season as the #9 team in our final 6A-2 rankings and they remain there here. The Eagles might be the team that we have the most question marks about right now because of the talented players they are losing like running back [player_tooltip player_id='479394' first='Rashaud' last='Hurt'] and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] to graduation. But head coach Javon Harris has this program trending in a positive direction and the Eagles had some instant success in their first season up from Class 5A. If Lawton Ike finds some new playmakers to emerge this offseason, they should have another successful season in 2025.

10) BARTLESVILLE
- At the end of the 2024 season, Bartlesville turned to freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1167484' first='Michael' last='Kent'] after he started in other spots earlier in the season. Kent would finish the year and that should give him some momentum in this offseason and moving forward in the spring and summer. At this time last year, we were high on the Bruins but they would lose their star running back after he moved away in the offseason. The Bruins will still be a team to watch in 2025 after they won their last three regular season games to make the playoffs and they were very competitive with Putnam City in their first round match-up.
