Enjoy!

The 2024 football season is finally here! Kind of. Schools across the state will hit the field this week for scrimmages and we took in two great scrimmages in the OKC area. First, we hit the rapid fire session at Carl Albert that lasted about an hour and a half. Then we made our way over to Tuttle for their scrimmage with Washington. All in all, we got a chance to see nine different teams and there were quite a few players that stood out. In this breakdown, we'll look at 15 different guys that stood out in one way or another on Thursday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='403509' first='Adam' last='Auston'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Lawton MacArthur

Earlier this month, Lawton MacArthur junior [player_tooltip player_id='403509' first='Adam' last='Auston'] announced his commitment to Arkansas. He's been a top ten overall prospect in the state's 2026 class for several ranking updates. We watched him quite a bit this offseason and now that the pads are on, he impressed us once again. We like Auston for what he can do on defense, and that was evident on Thursday when he made what could be the best interception we'll see all year. But Auston will also provide the Highlanders with another weapon on offense and he produced there as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='434307' first='Barrett' last='Travis'] - Senior Running Back - Heritage Hall

Heritage Hall is closing in on a decision regarding the quarterback position but while they do, they can be reassured with what they have in the running game. Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='434307' first='Barrett' last='Travis'] first got on our radar as a sophomore and we think that he is absolutely primed for a monster senior season. There was one carry in particular during the rapid fire segment that stood out. Travis went up the middle, got bottled up, bounced back and broke a tackle, sprang to the outside and raced towards the end zone. He could have a big 2024 season.

[player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] - Sophomore Tight End/Linebacker - Washington

We're on the record that Washington sophomore linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] is already one of the best linebackers in the state. Alexander showed that again on Thursday night but don't be surprised when Alexander ends up making plays on offense as a tight end. He caught a touchdown on offense and then was flying all over the field on defense. The Washington defense as a whole stood out to us with their ability to swarm to the football. It always seemed like when a Tuttle ball carrier was getting tackled, Washington had three or four players in the area.

[player_tooltip player_id='211560' first='CJ' last='Simon'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Tuttle

This was our first chance to see senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='211560' first='CJ' last='Simon'] with his new team. After becoming a star at Moore during the last three years, Simon moved over to Tuttle in the offseason. We knew that he would give the Tigers a big boost in their playmaking department and that was apparent on the very first play. Simon would fly down the sideline and pull in a 40+ yard reception on the first play of the scrimmage and Tuttle was off to the races. Simon isn't the only major target in the Tuttle offense as him and [player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] make a very strong 1-2 punch.

[player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] - Freshman Quarterback - Washington

We wrote about Washington freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] a few times this offseason and it surrounded how it felt like only a matter of time before he's the guy at QB1. Barrett got the nod on Thursday night and will be the starting quarterback for the Warriors this season. He made multiple throws and plays on Thursday night that backed up our claims that he's one of the very best players in the state's 2028 class. His ceiling is incredibly high and what's scary is he's only scratching the surface of what he's going to be moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='473754' first='Cruz' last='Campbell'] - Junior Quarterback - Tuttle

We tweeted this out last night, but in several 7v7 tournaments this offseason, we watched [player_tooltip player_id='473754' first='Cruz' last='Campbell'] throw deep ball after deep ball and [player_tooltip player_id='211560' first='CJ' last='Simon'] was on the other side. On the very first play, the Campbell to Simon connection happened again. Campbell is a quarterback that has probably improved the most from this moment 12 months ago. He's gotten bigger, his arm talent has definitely impressed us and he has all the tools to have a monster season. And when you look at the weapons that Tuttle has on offense, he could be the top QB in 4A football.

[player_tooltip player_id='1187314' first='Daniel' last='Newton'] - Senior Quarterback - Carl Albert

Carl Albert was pretty consistent with their rotation at the quarterback position during the rapid fire segment of the scrimmage. But whenever senior signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1187314' first='Daniel' last='Newton'] was on the field, he provided the Titans with a physical presence at the quarterback position and when he would tuck the ball and run, he brought a new element to the Carl Albert offense. He had multiple plays running the football and while the Titans are still figuring out who QB1 will be, they know they have a player in Newton that can do a lot to hurt defenses. He also chipped in on defense in the secondary.

[player_tooltip player_id='209872' first='David' last='McComb'] - Senior Quarterback - Edmond Memorial

Edmond Memorial senior quarterback and Kansas commit [player_tooltip player_id='209872' first='David' last='McComb'] is routinely one of the top quarterbacks on the field every time he steps on the field. And on Thursday night, in a scrimmage featuring six other teams, McComb was once again the top quarterback in attendance. The Kansas commit played very well during the rapid fire segment of the Carl Albert scrimmage and the thing that really impressed us was his ability to spread the ball around. The Bulldogs need new guys to step up at wide receiver and McComb was keeping everyone involved.

[player_tooltip player_id='1365396' first='Hunter' last='Barry'] - Senior Defensive End - Newcastle

We saw a few players that really stood out to us on defense but Newcastle senior [player_tooltip player_id='1365396' first='Hunter' last='Barry'] might be at the top of the list. Barry is a physical player that was coming off the edge for Newcastle's defensive line. It seemed like Barry was making a play on every single play. And when he wasn't hitting the ball carrier or effecting the quarterback, he was clearly being held by an opposing offensive lineman as they tried to do whatever they could do to slow him down. We showcased Barry as a name to watch for Newcastle this season and he definitely impressed.

[player_tooltip player_id='898159' first='Jackson' last='Schanuel'] - Senior Quarterback - Newcastle

While Barry stood out on defense for Newcastle, senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='898159' first='Jackson' last='Schanuel'] stood out to us on offense. First off, he's another player that immediately passes the eye test when you see him in person. He's a big, physical quarterback that showcased some playmaking ability on one run where he faked a hand off and ran right up the middle and outran some Southmoore defenders to the end zone. We didn't get to see him throwing the ball as much but we like his ability to run the ball, combined with who Newcastle has coming back at running back.

[player_tooltip player_id='1045555' first='Joshua' last='Rushing'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Lawton MacArthur

A lot of what we wrote about Auston could be repeated here with Lawton MacArthur's [player_tooltip player_id='1045555' first='Joshua' last='Rushing'] as he was dominant on both sides of the ball. But for Rushing, his priority is flipped as he's one of the top wide receivers in the state's 2026 class but will also play on defense in the secondary. Rushing is an absolute match-up nightmare for opponents. That was evident this offseason when we watched him in person and now that the pads are on, once again, nothing has changed. Rushing is going to be a problem for smaller cornerbacks that get left on an island.

[player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] - Senior Tight End - Washington

Any time we see Washington in person and talk about the top performers, senior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] is going to be on the list. Roberts is the top prospect in our 2025 rankings and he showed why he's one of the top tight ends in the country. As the Warriors continue to work in a freshman at QB1, having a player like Roberts as the ultimate safety blanket is going to be a very good thing for both Barrett and Roberts. The Ohio State commit could end up putting up monster numbers this season. He did a variety of things at a very high level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Lawton Eisenhower

Lawton Eisenhower is another team that stood out to us with their ability to swarm to the ball on defense. But on offense, we were once again impressed with the play of senior [player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] at wide receiver. He's a terrific pass-catcher and the biggest thing that stood out to us with his ability to bounce back. If he lost a one on one rep, he immediately came back and responded in a positive way. Sheridan is a very reliable target for Lawton Eisenhower and the Eagles are a team that we think could make some noise in 6A-2 this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1400727' first='Shawn' last='Rounsaville Jr'] - Junior Running Back/Linebacker - Tuttle

Tuttle junior [player_tooltip player_id='1400727' first='Shawn' last='Rounsaville Jr'] was one of the pleasant surprises on Thursday night. We knew Tuttle had weapons on offense but Rounsaville was a reliable player within the run game. He's a physical back that has no problem running right into the heart of a defense multiple times in a row. He also stood out to us on the defensive side of the ball at one of the linebacker positions. Overall, the physical nature of his play really stood out to us and we think that Tuttle is going to have one of the top offenses in Class 4A this season and they'll be balanced.

[player_tooltip player_id='294261' first='Trey' last='Washington'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Carl Albert

Carl Albert's [player_tooltip player_id='294261' first='Trey' last='Washington'] is definitely in the conversation for the most dynamic player in Oklahoma when you consider the impact he has in all three phases of the game. That was on display on Thursday night as he would make plays at wide receiver and then turn around and make plays on defense. We didn't get to see him boom punts down the field but he also brings that element. Washington continues to pass the eye test from a physical standpoint and the Oklahoma commit was one of the top athletes on a field loaded with talent.
