It’s not easy to replace a four-year starter at the quarterback position but that will be one of the bigger challenges for Newcastle this season. Senior signal Caller Jackson Schanuel Jackson Schanuel 6'4" | ATH Newcastle | 2025 State OK appears to be the next guy in line to run this Newcastle offense. Schanuel saw limited playing time in 2023 and when he was asked to throw the ball, he could absolutely fire it. His stats came in that limited time but some of these numbers are crazy. He had just 13 completions on 22 pass attempts but still finished with over 400 yards passing and six touchdowns. Based on those numbers, we can only imagine what his stats will look like when he has a full season under his belt.

We mentioned earlier that the Newcastle defense has nearly all of their starters back for this season. And arguably the strength of this Racer defense is going to come from the secondary. They have some serious talent coming back at the defensive back position and 2025 defensive back Jackson Schanuel Jackson Schanuel 6'4" | ATH Newcastle | 2025 State OK leads the group. He led the Racers last season with six interceptions on the year. Schanuel has some impressive size at 6’4 and he’s also going to give the Racers a big pass-catching target on offense and he can even help out in special teams as a returner. But we’re excited to see what he can do this season on the defensive side of the ball. He was an absolute ball hawk and the Racers forced quite a few turnovers. Only time will tell if they can do it again.
