Freshmen To Watch

For the last six weeks, we've been pumping out a ton of preview content with over 100 team previews. Over the last few seasons, we've seen freshmen not only make an impact early on, but they've done it at a high level. Here's a breakdown on five freshmen to keep an eye on this fall and even more names to remember moving forward. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["693998"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"Whenever you're talking about talented freshmen before they head into high school, you can almost certainly bring up Booker T Washington because year in and year out, they usually have a few top guys in each class. The 2027 class is no different and [player_tooltip player_id='693998' first='Braxton' last='Daniel'] is a tight end prospect that we'll be keeping an eye on as the Hornets head into the 2023 football season. Daniel already looks the part physically and it's hard not to be impressed by that. And the Hornets feel like a young team, especially on the offensive side of the ball so Daniel might find his way into the lineup sooner rather than later. Daniel is also a standout on the basketball floor so Booker T Washington appears to have another dual-sport star in the making.","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_player":["693905"],"_player_evaluations_1_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"Carl Albert already has the reigning PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year at running back but they have another one coming up that appears to be the next in a long line of star Titan running backs. [player_tooltip player_id='693905' first='Delijah' last='Matthews'] is a young prospect that already has coaches at Carl Albert very excited about the potential he possesses. Matthews is an athlete that is already on our radar as well because of what he can do on the football field and on the basketball court. Just like Daniel, Matthews appears to be another dual-sport standout that it's not a matter of if, but when they become a star on the gridiron. But with a loaded roster, it will be interesting to see if Matthews can get any playing time at the varsity level this fall.","_player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_2_player":["916843"],"_player_evaluations_2_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"Over the last few seasons, we've seen quite a few quarterbacks in the state emerge as freshmen on the field. Mangum signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='916843' first='Remington' last='Laughlin'] might be the next one up. As we mentioned at the top, it's obviously still incredibly early when it comes to these players as true prospects but Laughlin definitely looks the part and the Mangum coaches have been pretty vocal this offseason about their young quarterback as he's coming up. Laughlin got to work with the Tigers during the spring and we checked out some of the film. It's limited but you can see why there is some excitement about the possibilities with Laughlin running this Tiger offense. Jalyn Stanford has graduated and is now a freshman at Houston but the Trojans have another with 2027 standout [player_tooltip player_id='478124' first='Semaj' last='Stanford'] coming up this fall. We got a chance to see Stanford first-hand this offseason at our 7v7 tournament in Broken Arrow. He was one of the top overall players in his age division and we don't see that changing anytime soon. Whether it's on offense or defense, Stanford is going to give the Trojans a talented young player that whenever and wherever he gets on the field, he's going to provide a spark. He certainly looked the part back in February and should when the pads come on this fall.","_player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_4_player":["473852"],"_player_evaluations_4_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"We had our first ever Prep Redzone Next camp back in April and Mustang 2027 running back [player_tooltip player_id='473852' first='Taven' last='Brown'] ran away with the MVP award for his position group. And we had a few running backs there that should find some playing time this fall but Brown was the best of the best in our opinion. Mustang is going to look pretty different this season on offense after losing a good chunk of their production to graduation. Brown probably won't start but we would be very surprised if he didn't find his way onto the field early on this fall. The Mustang coaches are very excited about his potential and we're also excited about Mustang's future with their 2026 and 2027 classes respectively.
