continues to have a stranglehold on the top spot for running backs in the 2027 class. We thought that Matthews had the potential to be a star in his first season as a full-time starter for Carl Albert in 2025. He not only exceeded expectations, he blew them away with a record-breaking performance. Matthews was a touchdown machine for the Titans last fall with over 40 touchdowns on the ground. He already has his sights set on breaking his own record and helping Carl Albert break the state record for the longest win streak. Matthews is a complete back and what’s scary is he has a ton of gas still in the tank.

Matthews makes a strong case for the best back in 5A. In his junior campaign, Matthews helped the Titans achieve another state championship. Matthews size and strength makes him difficult to solo tackle. He is a tough downhill runner who has no issue with contact and can put a defender on the ground in a hurry. Matthews and the Titans will be looking for yet another state title in 2026 and with a ball carrier like him, expect the Titans to be back in the driver’s seat next season.

is the runaway favorite for Breakout Player Of The Year in 2025 and it shouldn’t be a surprise that he jumped up ten spots and is knocking on the door of being a Top 15 overall prospect in this class. Matthews has been patiently waiting for his opportunity and has certainly made the most of it this season. He has a chance to break some single season records for the Titans this season and his recruitment should absolutely blow up after this season. The more his junior film makes the rounds in December and January, we have a feeling that Matthews will become one of the hotter prospects in Oklahoma. We’ve said this a few times but it was only a matter of time before Matthews became that elite RB prospect in this class.

Matthews played a little bit over the last few seasons, but this was supposed to be his breakout year and he’s delivered. He’s been one of the best running backs in Oklahoma and has Carl Albert in a position to win their fourth consecutive state championship. The Titans just won their 47th consecutive game on Thursday night (Oct. 23rd), and Matthews and Carl Albert have a chance to make more history. If they win the state title in December, it will be their 20th championship in school history. They will break a tie with Ada for the most football championships in Oklahoma history.
Matthews has firmly established himself as the next great running back to come through this Carl Albert program, and there have been plenty of them. In the last decade alone, the Titans have sent three running backs to programs like Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. Matthews is well on his way to becoming the next name on that list. He already has a handful of offers, and that list should grow as his impressive junior film makes the rounds. The Carl Albert junior has produced at a very high level right from the jump and the ceiling for him as an overall prospect continues to get higher and higher.
