This past weekend, we were on hand in Plano, Texas for the DR 7v7 event from start to finish. The only Oklahoma team in attendance in the high school divisions was Sooner 7’s program with two 18U teams and a 15U team. We caught every game from those squads and have spotlights on all of the top performers from the two days in north Texas. In this post, we’re taking a look at five of the top standouts we saw from the Sooner 7 “White” 18U team. Check out the links below to read up on some of the other standouts from Sooner 7’s other teams down in Texas.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Booker T Washington 2024 wide receiver Deuce Chalk Deuce Chalk 6’2″ | 175 lbs | WR Owasso | 2024 State OK continues to impress us every time we see him on the football field. We’ve covered two tournaments so far this offseason and Chalk has been arguably the best wide receiver we’ve watched when you combine the two tournaments. Chalk is a big play threat every time he steps on the field. It didn’t matter who the quarterback was on Saturday or Sunday. They knew that Chalk was going to get open on a consistent basis and he found the end zone a lot. Going over all the video we shot from this past weekend, Chalk was the skill player that had the most clips from the tournament for the Sooner 7 White squad. So while we don’t know officially if Chalk was their leading receiver, we think that it’s a safe bet that he was either first or second. Chalk is a smooth playmaker that appears to be the next offensive weapon coming out of Booker T Washington.
While Chalk was the big play threat for the Sooner 7 White offense, Choctaw 2024 wide receiver JuJu Smith JuJu Smith 5’8″ | ATH Choctaw | 2025 State OK continued to be their consistent playmaker in the short pass game. Just like with Choctaw last fall, Smith was at his best when he was taking short routes and then making something happen with them after the catch. He did almost all of his damage in the short or intermediate passing game. And that’s crazy when you think about it being 7v7. All defenders have to do is put a hand on you and you’re down right there. But you can’t touch what you can’t catch and Smith was outrunning a lot of defenders after the catch. We’ve really liked his game ever since we started watching him around this time last year. We also really liked how Choctaw used him as a slot receiver who just ate up YAC yards on bubble screens. He’s definitely a 2024 playmaker that needs more attention moving forward.
Morrison 2025 quarterback Mason Schubert Mason Schubert 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Morrison | 2025 State OK is a new quarterback on our radar after watching him in person this weekend. Schubert is a lefty that could sling it all over the field. The small school standout has more of a sidearm delivery when he’s throwing the ball but one thing that really stood out was his accuracy with the various throws. Whether it was short, intermediate or deep routes down the field, Schubert did a good job of putting the ball where it needed to be. We already really like the state’s 2025 quarterback class as it continues to get deeper and deeper. Schubert is the latest name that we’ll be keeping an eye on as we move further into the spring months. Schubert also did a really good job being careful with the football. He never really forced passes into windows that just weren’t there. We’re looking forward to seeing more of Schubert both in 7v7 and in school ball.
Highlights
We mentioned this on Twitter earlier this week but Union 2025 quarterback Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK has to be one of the most consistent quarterbacks we’ve seen come through Oklahoma in recent memory. And he still has two more years of high school left. Reisig continues to blow us away with his accuracy and ability to make all of the right decisions. And he continues to add things to his game and we’re seeing improvements in other areas. One for instance is his ability to read and manipulate the opposing defense. On one play, he started to the right, scanned left and as his eyes locked on to Deuce Chalk Deuce Chalk 6’2″ | 175 lbs | WR Owasso | 2024 State OK who was streaking to the end zone, he started his throwing motion immediately. The quickness in the decision making and the fact that the decision making is always on point makes Reisig so dangerous. He’s a special talent and he’s only getting better every time he steps on the field.
And our final spotlight is on McLain 2024 defensive back Titus Morgan Titus Morgan 6’1″ | DB McLain | 2024 OK and he’s a new name that’s not firmly on our radar. As we mentioned in our breakdown on Sooner 7 Blue with Jayden Swanson Jayden Swanson 6’0″ | DB Muskogee | 2024 State OK from Muskogee, it’s hard to stand out in 7v7 as a cornerback. The offense usually always has the advantage. But for Morgan, he was making plays all weekend long and we really like his combination of size and athleticism at the position. Another part of Morgan’s game that was impressive was his physicality at the position. It is 7v7 and it’s a lot different when the pads come on but we liked Morgan’s ability to hold his ground and let each wide receiver that he matched up with know that they were in for a long day. McLain has a few prospects playing with Sooner 7 that we’re looking forward to covering more this spring. Morgan is the first to really stand out on the defensive side of the ball.
