The Prep Redzone Next Middle School Combine series continued this weekend in Oklahoma and middle school standouts brought it on Saturday. We had some outstanding talent all across the state of Oklahoma and even some of the surrounding states. We’ll have a ton of coverage from the event dropping on Prep Redzone Next! In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on the best of the best at each position. After discussing with our positional coaches and writers in attendance, these seven earned the title of the best of the best in Oklahoma!
2028 offensive lineman Brock Allen Brock Allen 6’4″ | 295 lbs | OL OK came into Saturday’s camp as the favorite to walk away as MVP for the offensive line position. Allen earned the award back in January at our last PRZ-Next camp in Oklahoma and he was hungry to go “back to back” this time around. The OL/DL group was lighter than it normally is but Allen once again ran away with it. From start to finish, he was the most dominant player at his position and you can make the argument on the line of scrimmage in general. Now the bad news, or the good news if you’re an opponent of Enid. Allen is moving to Ohio this summer and we won’t be able to see him become that instant impact freshman this fall.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage you had 2028 defensive lineman Chandler Johnson Chandler Johnson 6’1″ | 190 lbs | DL Stillwater | 2028 OK from Stillwater. He camped with us back in January and after watching him there, along with seeing him on the 7v7 circuit and then again on Saturday, Johnson has made a significant leap in his game during the last three months. Every time we’ve seen him, he continues to get better and better and that’s scary for Stillwater opponents moving forward. Especially when you consider that the Pioneers have two 2028 prospects on this breakdown that stole the show on Saturday. Johnson is a really good looking athlete and he could end up earning some early playing time.

The other Stillwater Pioneer that opponents will have to be ready for is David Thomas David Thomas 6’1″ | 160 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2028 OK on both sides of the ball. This weekend, Thomas was our pick for MVP at wide receiver but he could have very well taken home MVP honors at defensive back. Thomas was an absolute stud on Saturday and he lived up to the hype we had about him coming in. We’ve seen Thomas in person quite a bit this offseason as he played for Sooner 7 and he was very clearly one of the top 2028 prospects that we watched. He backed it up this weekend in every phase of the camp. And after talking with coaches, it’ll be a surprise if we don’t see him crack the lineup on Friday nights this fall.

Plainview 2028 running back Jett Frankum Jett Frankum ATH OK got on our radar back in January at our last PRZ-Next camp in Oklahoma. Frankum was one of the top performers on the offensive side of the ball and specifically at running back. Fast forward just three months and Frankum was back and dominated the camp once again. This time, he walked away with MVP honors for the running back position. And just like we said back in January, Frankum is going to be an impact player when he gets to the high school level. It’s only a matter of when that happens for him. He brings a lot to the table as an overall playmaker and that playmaking was on full display this weekend.
We had a good group of quarterbacks this weekend but when we saw that Victory Christian 2028 signal caller Maddox Young Maddox Young 6’0″ | 160 lbs | QB Victory Christian | 2028 OK was going to be in attendance, we thought he would be the favorite for QB MVP. Young backed up the hype and it didn’t take long once the quarterbacks to start throwing the ball for coaches to come up and say that Young was the best in attendance. He continued to back up that growing hype throughout the morning and afternoon with terrific passes at every level down the field. We watched Young quite a bit this offseason on the 7v7 circuit and he’s certainly going to go into this fall as a freshman quarterback that appears ready for varsity immediately.

Deer Creek seems to always have a good showing at our PRZ-Next camps and this weekend was no different. The future is bright for the Antlers with multiple 2028 prospects that have stood out at our camps this year. Mason Mayhew Mason Mayhew 5’11” | 165 lbs | WR OK is another example of a young prospect who tested well and then really stood out on both sides of the ball. Mayhew was listed on the camp roster at wide receiver but plenty of receivers also got work in at defensive back. Mayhew was one of them and he was right there with Thomas as one of the top two-way athletes in attendance. Like Thomas, we could have made the case for Mayhew at wide receiver as well after his performance.

We finish up this breakdown with a look at the MVP from the linebacker position. 2028 linebacker Rolen Wilson Rolen Wilson 6’0″ | 190 lbs | LB Whittier Middle | 2028 OK will be a freshman for Norman North this fall and he already looks the part physically. Wilson did a great job in drills and was one of the standouts from start to finish on Saturday. His positional coaches spoke very highly of him and this was a position group that was very competitive. MVP could have gone to several players and don’t be surprised to see this linebacker group have an impact at the high school level early on. Wilson proved he belonged with the best of the best with consistent play from the testing, to the drills and into the one on one competitions.
