It’s July 1st and today kicks off our nearly two month series of previewing the 2021 football season. We’re still 56 days away from the first official Friday night with games since December. But it’s never too early to look ahead and this offseason we’ve had our “Way WAY Too Early Rankings” as well as our “Way Too Early Rankings” and now it’s time to unveil our official 2021 Preseason Rankings for 6A-A. Check out who our preseason number one teams are, as well as how the top ten fills out in each class. The month of July will be full of preview content on Prep Redzone Oklahoma as we are publishing 100 individual team previews to get you ready for the 2021 season. It doesn’t stop there as August rolls around and we’ll have our Preseason All State teams, class by class previews and championship predictions. Starting today, we’ll have new daily content from now until January.
CLASS 6A-D1
1) OWASSO (Team Preview)
– They need to replace their offensive line but they have a wealth of talent everywhere else for another title run.
2) UNION (Team Preview)
– Union bounced back from a slow start to make a semifinal run and return nearly everyone to take that next step.
3) JENKS (Team Preview)
– Jenks is defending the state title but that target is massive and they have new names that will need to step up.
4) EDMOND SANTA FE (Team Preview)
– Fresh off their state title appearance last year, the Wolves are locking in for a return trip to Wantland Stadium.
5) BROKEN ARROW (Team Preview)
– The Josh Blankenship era begins at Broken Arrow and the Tigers are hungry to get back to title contention.
6) NORMAN NORTH (Team Preview)
– The T’Wolves are loaded for a season where they could join the elite teams for a run at the state championship.
7) MUSTANG (Team Preview)
– Mustang has been knocking on the door over the last few years, will 2021 be the year they kick it down and go all the way?
8) YUKON (Team Preview)
– First year head coach Marshall Hahn will look to continue the momentum of Yukon football going into the 2021 season.
9) SOUTHMOORE (Team Preview)
– Head coach Joshua Norman is getting his system in place and will have the Sabercats contending for a playoff spot.
10) MOORE (Team Preview)
– The Lions had to reload in 2020 but they appear to be ready and able for another deep playoff run this fall.
CLASS 6A-D2
1) BIXBY (Team Preview)
– They’ve been the kings of 6A-D2 with six titles in seven years but this might be their last go around in 6A-D2.
2) CHOCTAW (Team Preview)
– The Yellowjackets made a surprising run to the title game but nobody will be surprised if they do it again in 2021.
3) BOOKER T WASHINGTON (Team Preview)
– The Hornets have lower numbers than usual this fall but those numbers feature some of the best talent in the state.
4) MIDWEST CITY (Team Preview)
– The Bombers were once again a contender in 2020 after a few down years and nothing will change that going into this fall.
5) STILLWATER (Team Preview)
– After being upset on a last second field goal in the semifinals, the Pioneers are hungry to climb back up the ladder.
6) PUTNAM CITY NORTH (Team Preview)
– The Panthers come into 2021 with some momentum and they feel like this is the year they take the next step as a program.
7) SAND SPRINGS (Team Preview)
– The Sandites might be the dark horse in 6A-D2 as they return enough talent to challenge some of the best in the state.
8) DEL CITY (Team Preview)
– After a disappointing 2020, the Eagles will look to turn the page and get back to making deep runs in the playoffs.
9) LAWTON (Team Preview)
– It’s been a few years since Lawton was a serious contender but 2021 might be the year where that changes.
10) BARTLESVILLE (Team Preview)
– Put the Bruins in the same category as Sand Springs as they have enough returning players to make a run this fall.
CLASS 5A
1) McALESTER (Team Preview)
– The Buffaloes made a surprising run to the 5A semifinals in 2020 but they won’t sneak up on anyone this fall.
2) COLLINSVILLE (Team Preview)
– The Cardinals were dominant in 2020 before running into eventual champ Carl Albert, they have unfinished business in 2021.
3) CARL ALBERT (Team Preview)
– The Titans’ dynasty continued with a fifth straight state title and now new head coach Mike Dunn looks to continue it.
4) ARDMORE (Team Preview)
– Ardmore returns nearly everyone and they have the firepower on offense to be one of the best units in Oklahoma.
5) COWETA (Team Preview)
– A young Coweta team has been building for a year like 2021 where they can put it all together and make a title run.
6) BISHOP McGUINNESS (Team Preview)
– The Irish will have a new quarterback but the defense can lead Bishop McGuinness to yet another title game.
7) GUTHRIE (Team Preview)
– It’s been a few years since the Blue Jays were considered serious threats in 5A football but that might change this fall.
8) EL RENO (Team Preview)
– A new quarterback will be leading the Indians in 2021 but don’t expect to see much of a drop off from El Reno this fall.
9) BISHOP KELLEY (Team Preview)
– The Comets have earned the benefit of the doubt that year after year they’ll contend, no matter who they have to replace.
10) TAHLEQUAH (Team Preview)
– The Tigers might be under the radar in a very top-heavy 5A but they have the potential to pull off an upset or two.
CLASS 4A
1) CUSHING (Team Preview)
– With nearly everyone back, including a special 2023 class, you can expect Cushing to be at or near the top spot for a few years.
2) TUTTLE (Team Preview)
– The Tigers are a few years removed from their title but this year’s team looks very similar to the one that raised the 2018 gold ball.
3) HILLDALE (Team Preview)
– Similar to Cushing, Hilldale has played a lot of young and talented players building up to what could be a special 2021.
4) CLINTON (Team Preview)
– Perennial power Clinton returned to the state title game in 2020 but fell short, they’re on the shortlist of true contenders in 2021.
5) POTEAU (Team Preview)
– The Pirates had an up and down 2020 after winning the 2019 gold ball. They’ve reloaded for another title run this fall.
6) WEATHERFORD (Team Preview)
– The Eagles have some big names that they have to replace but they also return some experienced and talented guys.
7) BETHANY (Team Preview)
– Bethany had to rebuild and reload last year but they appear primed to be a top ten team all year this fall.
8) NEWCASTLE (Team Preview)
– Newcastle pulled off a few upsets in 2020 but it appears that the Racers are ready to become one of the contenders in 4A this year.
9) WAGONER (Team Preview)
– The defending champion Bulldogs will have to rebuild after losing nearly every starter from last year’s title team.
10) GROVE (Team Preview)
– The Ridgerunners might be an under the radar team not only in their district but in their class with a wealth of talent returning.
CLASS 3A
1) HOLLAND HALL (Team Preview)
– Fresh off their first state championship in school history, the Dutch have plenty of talent to make another run to Edmond.
2) VERDIGRIS (Team Preview)
– With a very strong 2023 class, you should get used to seeing the Cardinals at the top of the rankings for a few years.
3) LINCOLN CHRISTIAN (Team Preview)
– Lincoln made it to another title game in 2020 but had to settle for silver. They’ll have some unfinished business this fall.
4) PLAINVIEW (Team Preview)
– With nearly everyone returning on both sides of the ball, don’t be surprised to see another deep playoff run from Plainview.
5) HERITAGE HALL (Team Preview)
– The Chargers have become one of those programs that you book as a top five team year after year and it’s not different now.
6) ANADARKO (Team Preview)
– A decade ago, Anadarko was one of the dominant teams in Oklahoma and they look to return to that this fall.
7) BERRYHILL (Team Preview)
– It was a very strange 2020 season for Berryhill but they hope to return to normalcy in 2021, which also includes contending
8) SEMINOLE (Team Preview)
– Similar to Berryhill, Seminole had a lot of Covid interruptions last year but they should challenge in their district this fall.
9) CHECOTAH (Team Preview)
– Checotah suffered from a brutal district in 2020 and it doesn’t get much easier this fall, but they’ll be ready for all of it this year.
10) McLOUD (Team Preview)
– McLoud certainly went through growing pains in 2020 but they should be ready to start competing with 3A’s best.
CLASS 2A
1) METRO CHRISTIAN (Team Preview)
– The Patriots captured a second straight state championship and show no signs of slowing down this season.
2) JONES (Team Preview)
– The Longhorns return nearly everyone, including their star quarterback and could make another championship run.
3) BEGGS (Team Preview)
– The Golden Demons have reloaded for another run at the title game and they’re hungry to finish the job this fall.
4) WASHINGTON (Team Preview)
– Fresh off their appearance in the state championship game, don’t expect for Washington to take a step back in 2021.
5) COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN (Team Preview)
– One of the biggest surprise teams of 2020, regardless of class, CCS won’t sneak up and surprise anyone this fall.
6) MILLWOOD (Team Preview)
– It’s been a couple years since Millwood was dominating 2A football but that might be changing this fall with a wealth of talent returning.
7) OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL (Team Preview)
– The Saints were a game away from playing for the gold ball in 2020 and you know they’ve used that as motivation this offseason.
8) MARLOW (Team Preview)
– The Outlaws were one of the best teams in 2A last year but couldn’t get the job done in the the playoffs and look to change that.
9) ADAIR (Team Preview)
– The Warriors are year in and year out one of the best teams in 2A football and 2021 is going to be no different.
10) VIAN (Team Preview)
– The Wolverines have a lot to replace after some dominant years but nobody should expect them to take a backseat to the rest of 2A.
CLASS A
1) CASHION (Team Preview)
– After being so close so many times during the last ten years, Cashion finally comes into a season as defending champion.
2) PAWHUSKA (Team Preview)
– One of the best offensive units we’ve ever seen was bounced in the semifinals last year. They’re reloaded for more in 2021.
3) RINGLING (Team Preview)
– After the last few years, you have to include Ringling near the top of Class A, based on their defense alone.
4) GORE (Team Preview)
– Look out for this Gore team to make a deep playoff run as they return literally every single starter on both sides of the ball
5) THOMAS (Team Preview)
– The Terriers would have to settle for silver after falling to Cashion twice last fall but they’ll remain in the mix this season.
6) WOODLAND (Team Preview)
– Woodland put up some serious numbers and return the majority of their playmakers, that’s going to be a problem for the rest of Class A.
7) PAWNEE (Team Preview)
– Pawnee was one of the best in 2020 but had to deal with several Covid interruptions as well and lost a heartbreaker to Thomas in the playoffs.
8) MORRISON (Team Preview)
– Morrison pulled off a few upsets to make a deep run in the playoffs last year but they’ll expected to make another November run this fall.
9) HOOKER (Team Preview)
– Hooker played good football for most of the 2020 season before running into the Cashion buzzsaw. We’ll see if they can continue that momentum.
10) MOORELAND (Team Preview)
– We like the rushing attack that Mooreland has and it could end up being the reason they become a real contender this fall.
