Overview (Class 6A-D1 Preseason Ranking: #4)
Up one spot from where we had them around this time in 2020, the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves will enter this season with a chip on their shoulder but also with a target on their backs perhaps in a few ways. With only a few new faces along both sides of the ball, the Wolves came into 2020 with high hopes, especially after defeating both Jenks and Broken Arrow in the 2019 regular season to take home a district title. Their season got off to a rocky start in 2020 with back-to-back losses to Owasso and Stillwater where they allowed a combined total of 86 points in 2 weeks. The Wolves would rebound in a big way though. From the beginning of October to the end of the regular season, Santa Fe looked like a brand new team as they began to blow out some impressive squads and only allowed 105 points across 6 weeks. That momentum stuck with them in the playoffs this time as opposed to what happened in 2019, and they were able to get back to the state championship game for the first time since 2003. They would end up falling short to a Jenks team that was hungry to end a title drought of their own, but things are still looking up for the Wolves. Santa Fe returns just over half of their starters on both sides of the ball, which should be enough to reload and make another run at what they probably believe was theirs for the taking in 2020.

In 2020, with the wealth of talent that Santa Fe boasted in all phases, it appeared that they had a real shot to make some noise in 6A-D1 if the first-year starter

could do what the coaches believed he was capable of. Turns out there was some truth to that. Although Santa Fe ran the ball very heavily at times in 2020, a lot of their games down the stretch were decided by who could make one last big play at the end, often through the air. The offense seemed to go as Pfieffer went during some of their big moments/games, which explains not all but a few of the struggles the Wolves had against Jenks in the title game. However, after seeing what this young man has done in the offseason, and with his top target returning, it appears that he is ready to take over and show that last season was no fluke.

– 2022 Wide Receiver
It took a little bit longer than anticipated for those who have kept up with Talyn’s career to this point, but he finally received an invite to the 2022 Under Armour All-America game after attending one of their camps this spring where he was torching defensive backs from around the country all weekend long. Shettron can do a little bit of everything from the Wide Receiver position and has recently shaken up the recruiting world with his flip from the University of Oklahoma over to Oklahoma State. This decision came just weeks after the Cowboys offered his twin brother Tabry, and is one that should have OSU fans everywhere jumping for joy as they just got an absolute gem, and got him from their long-time rivals.

– 2022 Tight End
While he does not have the accolades or recruiting score from the major outlets that his brother Talyn does, Tabry is still without a doubt one of the better athletes in the state and has a really good opportunity to showcase that as Santa Fe’s starting tight end in 2021 where he will likely be the 2nd option in this passing attack only behind Talyn. Not only did the Cowboys reel Talyn away from the Sooners last week, but they got a commitment from Tabry as well. This joint commitment from the Shettron brothers will give OSU another set of Oklahoma-bred siblings on their offense as they will join both WR Brenan and RB

Notable
For the first time since 2013, Santa Fe has a chance to win its 3rd consecutive district championship. The Wolves have won titles in back-to-back seasons twice previously, in 2004/2005 and in 2011/2012, but they were never able to bring it back a third time. Additionally, Santa Fe’s Senior Class of 2022 will have accounted for nearly half of the district titles in their school’s history if they can get it done again this season. Dating back to the 1990s when the Edmond Schools began to split at the high school level, Santa Fe has won their district 7 times including 2019 and 2020. Scott Pfieffer Scott Pfieffer 6'3" | QB Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK , the Shettron brothers, and many other Seniors for this team have already left quite the mark on this program, but completing a feat like that along with another long playoff run would cement their Santa Fe legacy forever.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Aug. 27 – Owasso
– For the second season in a row, the Wolves will have to face one of the top teams in the state to start their season. They will surely be out for revenge after what the Rams did to them to start 2020. Will that fire from last season’s loss be enough though? Owasso returns most of their team from last season including just about every single playmaker on offense that contributed to the lopsided victory for the Rams. This year’s matchup is at home though, so that may boost them if this one comes down to the wire. It’s not often that you get a #1 vs #4 game in week 1, so expect some serious hype around this one not just from us come late August.
Sept. 3 – Stillwater
Sept. 10 – AT Edmond North
Sept. 24 – AT Edmond Memorial
Oct. 1 – Westmoore
Oct. 8 – AT Yukon
Oct. 14 – Jenks
– This game will be one that both teams will come ready with something to prove for multiple reasons. Due to Covid complications, this game was canceled last season, so the Trojans will be out to try and prove that they still run this district after falling to Santa Fe in the 2019 regular season. On the other sideline, Santa Fe will be looking to avenge their December 2020 loss in Wantland stadium and to potentially 3-Peat as district champions. Though this game will already have huge playoff implications with it being so late in the season, it is not too farfetched to think that this could just be the primer for a potential playoff rematch when both of their seasons are on the line for real in November or December.
Oct. 22 – AT Broken Arrow
Oct. 29 – Enid
Nov. 5 – AT Norman
