Overview (Class A Preseason Ranking: #9)
Plenty of teams are ready to erase the memory of what was a very strange 2020 season and you can count the Hooker Bulldogs in that column. Hooker made it back to the playoffs in 2020 but because of Covid, they didn’t play the first two weeks of the playoffs and would have wait until the third week to start their playoff run. And that first playoff game was against eventual champion Cashion, who throttled the Bulldogs 60-22. Now, had Hooker played the first two weeks, they still would have had to face Cashion in that third round. But they went three weeks in between football games and that’s just not the norm. However, that was then and this is now and the Bulldogs are once again one of the top teams in Class A. They come in at #9 in our preseason rankings with the only other district foe ahead of them being Thomas, who finished as the state’s Runner Up last season. Hooker brings back seven starters on the offensive side of the ball and led by their star quarterback Gavynn Parker Gavynn Parker 6'1" | QB Hooker | 2022 State OK , they’ll have one of the highest scoring offenses in the state. In a class where Cashion and Pawhuska are the two top dogs, Hooker will need to have all the firepower they can get on the offensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs will begin the season once again facing off with three straight out of state opponents. The Oklahoma panhandle power is hoping to bring plenty of momentum into district play after that out of state competition.

is a perfect example of that. The combination of Class A ball and just how deep this class is has made Parker somewhat of an underrated prospect in this class. Parker is an outstanding quarterback and will have Hooker as one of the top offensive teams in Class A this fall. The jump Parker made from his sophomore to junior season was outstanding. He more than doubled his yards and touchdowns in the air. His completion percentage also went up over 10% as he showed he could be incredibly accurate with the ball.
Hudsen Hill – 2022 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
The main guy who will benefit the most from Parker returning at quarterback for the Bulldogs is senior wide receiver Hudsen Hill. The senior standout led the team in receiving touchdowns a year ago and finished the year with just under 1,000 yards on the season. Having that familiar connection will help Hooker on the offensive side of the ball. Hill is also a standout on the defensive side of the ball. He finished second on the team in interceptions with four and will attempt to add more to his name to get that explosive Hooker offense back onto the field.

Notable
This next part is more for those football fans that aren’t as familiar with Hooker football compared to the Bulldog faithful. Hooker is out in the panhandle of Oklahoma and because of that, the majority of their road games are pretty far away. Because of that, Hooker has gotten into the habit and rhythm of scheduling non-district games against opponents from Kansas, New Mexico and Texas that happen to be closer. This year, the first three weeks of the season feature three non-district games against out of state opponents. They’ll open up the season in Texas against Sunray in week one. They’ll also host a team out of New Mexico and another team out of Texas. Over the last several seasons, the majority of Hooker’s non-district games have been against out of state competition. We’re not going to sit here and act like we know what type of program Clayton, New Mexico has, and because of that, it’s been hard to get a gauge on the Bulldogs before they enter district play. However, we know that the Bulldogs are a top ten team going into the year, they have one of the better quarterbacks in the state’s senior class and we don’t have to wait until late September to know that they’ll be a factor in the Class A title talks.

Sept. 10 – Clayton, NM.

Sept. 24 – AT Merritt
Oct. 1 – Sayre
Oct. 8 – Thomas
– Hooker dropped their first two games of the season but other than the loss to Thomas, they didn’t lose the rest of the regular season. The Bulldogs will certainly have this match-up circled as the Terriers just narrowly beat Hooker a year ago. Thomas of course, would go on to finish as Class A Runner Up last year. They are currently the favorites to win this district going into the season but the Bulldogs are hoping to take that crown from them. In last year’s game, Hooker star quarterback

finished with a season-high 45 passes but only completed 24 of them as Thomas did a good job not giving up the big play.
Oct. 14 – AT Burns Flat
Oct. 22 – AT Texhoma
Oct. 29 – Mooreland
– It’s going to be a clash of styles here as Mooreland will be looking to run, run and run the ball. Meanwhile, Hooker will have one of the top passing attacks in Class A. Similar to the Thomas game, Mooreland will look to keep Hooker’s high-powered offense off the field. The Bearcats had a wild season a year ago, starting 1-4, going into the playoffs at 4-6 and then winning three straight games to make it all the way to the quarterfinals. They come into this season with plenty of momentum and are #10 in our preseason rankings. The district favorites here are Thomas and Hooker, but Mooreland will have something to say about that.
