Overview (Class 2A Preseason Ranking: #2)
As they head into the 2021 season, the Jones Longhorns are hungry to capture another state championship after being close last year. Class 2A is always one of the more competitive classes and deep classes in the state so to win a state championship, you have to have talent and depth on both sides of the ball. That’s the case for the Longhorns as they return nearly everyone on both sides of the ball. 15 starters return for Jones with seven on offense and eight on the defensive side of the ball. The defense might be the more experienced unit of the two but the offense has the potential to be one of the best units in the state. The Longhorns are led by their quarterback and Player Of The Year finalist from a year ago in

. If their senior quarterback takes the next step, look for him to be one of the favorites to win the individual award this fall. Jones is in one of the more difficult districts and the non-district schedule is always tough as well. So the Longhorns might see a speed bump or two on their way to the playoffs. However, they want to run the table and capture another state championship. Metro Christian comes in as the preseason number one team but the Longhorns are right behind them at number two.

Players To Watch
Cadyn Karl – 2022 Wide Receiver
He was the leading receiver for the Longhorns in 2020 and he’s back for another run with his quarterback. That 1-2 punch of May at QB and Karl at WR could be the best duo in Class 2A this fall. They were very productive last year and will look to replicate that connection this season. Karl is an underrated wide receiver when it comes to recruiting but that might be because of his abilities on the baseball diamond. Karl has already committed to play college baseball at Kansas State. However, with another big season on the gridiron this fall, he might have some more opportunities when it comes to the next level.

is coming off a junior season in which he put up big numbers throwing and running the ball and ended up as one of our finalists for Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year. We have no reason to think that May won’t be able to put up similar numbers this fall, if not better. They could end up making a deep run to a potential championship, which would give the talented Jones QB more games to put up those big numbers in the passing and running game.

– 2022 Offensive Lineman
Jones has the potential to be one of the higher scoring offenses in the state, let alone in Class 2A this fall. However, before they can accomplish that, they’ll need their offensive line to be working as one group to allow all the skill players within this offense and opportunity to succeed. Anchoring that offensive line is 2022 lineman

He does an excellent job with his hands and when he locks on an opponent, he rarely loses that 1 on 1 battle. If Corbin and the Longhorn OL have a good year, expect a lot of fireworks.

. It was very early on in his freshman season in 2020 but you could tell that he had some abilities that were more advanced for his age. You could also see that he was a freshman and he had some work to do in terms of being raw. However, when we got a chance to see him again this spring during team camps, Correa had improved. He was becoming more confident in his abilities and you could tell he was more comfortable with the physicality that he had to play with to be successful.

Notable
Perhaps no program has been able to produce more top level quarterbacks than Jones over the last decade. You take a look back at some of the names that have been QB1 for the Longhorns and it’s quite impressive. Not only is it continuing right now with Carson May Carson May 6'5" | QB Jones | 2022 State OK , but the Longhorns feel like they have their next guy up when May graduates in 2024 QB Clayton Creasey. The Longhorns just have to hang on to him because a few other Longhorn quarterbacks made their name in Jones but wound up finishing their high school careers elsewhere. Most notably is 2014 quarterback David Cornwell, who finished his high school career at Norman North before signing with Alabama. Most recently, 2020 quarterback JD Head had a phenomenal sophomore season for the Longhorns and then transferred south to Texas to finish his career there. May is hoping to finish his career similar to 2017 QB Brandon George. May, like George, is a three-year starter and has put up monster numbers. George finished his career with a state title in 2016. May is looking to do the same this fall.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Aug. 27 – Bethany
Sept. 3 – Lincoln Christian
– This has turned into a nice 3A/2A rivalry as Jones and Lincoln Christian have become usual non-district opponents in the last five to six years. Lincoln has been able to get the edge over the Longhorns in recent years but Jones is looking forward to getting the Bulldogs at home this season. In week one, after a showdown with 4A’s Bethany, Jones will host a Lincoln team that’s ranked #3 int he 3A preseason rankings. Jones let one get away last year in Tulsa as they dominated the first half against Lincoln but the Bulldogs rallied and knocked off the Longhorns at home.
Sept. 10 – AT Luther
Sept. 24 – AT Star Spencer
Oct. 1 – Chandler
Oct. 8 – AT Crossings Christian
Oct. 14 – Kellyville
Oct. 22 – AT Millwood
– The district championship will more than likely be on the line as the Longhorns travel to east Oklahoma City to face off with Millwood. In addition to Lincoln Christian, the Falcons were the only teams that handed the Longhorns a loss in the regular season. This district in Class 2A actually projects to be one of the tougher districts in the class. Jones and Millwood are the top ranked teams in the district but other teams like Chandler, Crossings and Meeker will have something to say about the district championship being decided here in a week eight showdown.
