Overview (Class 2A Preseason Ranking: #4)
A few years ago, Class 3A trimmed down to just 32 teams and that sent a lot of really good teams down to Class 2A. Ever since then, 2A has been arguably the deepest and most competitive class in the state. One team that year in and year out has been at or near the top in 2A football has been the Washington Warriors. The Warriors have been one of the more consistent teams during the last five years, making playoff after playoff and making deep runs into the postseason. However, they’re still searching for their first state championship since the mid-90’s. The Warriors haven’t had the star power that some other 2A programs have had during the last several years, but every year they find themselves in the mix and winning the majority of their games. Last year was no different as they made a run tho the state championship game before being taken out by Metro Christian. Even in that title game, the Warriors never gave up and kept playing until the end. The result was all but decided but the Warriors kept on plugging away and never gave up until the final buzzer. In fact, they even scored on the final play of that title game, even though Metro Christian had to gold ball in the bag. That energy, plus returning 15 total starters from last year’s team is a big reason why the Warriors find themselves at #4 in our preseason rankings for 2A football. With seven starters back on offense and eight back on defense, the Warriors appear ready to make another deep run, and even potentially a return trip to Wantland Stadium.

Players To Watch
Jaxon Hendrix – 2023 Quarterback
The Warriors are turning over the keys to their offense to 2023 quarterback Jaxon Hendrix and they’re expecting some big things from Hendrix. The Warriors put up some big numbers on the offensive side of the ball and they should have enough firepower to not take a step back, despite having a new quarterback. The Warriors are bringing back the majority of their starters on the offensive side of the ball, which will certainly help the young quarterback get comfortable. Returning the next player in this feature will certainly help.
Kobe Scott – 2022 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
A big reason that Hendrix is going to be able to ease into the starting role at quarterback is his go to receiver. Kobe Scott will be a senior wide receiver and defensive back and he’ll give Hendrix a potential game-changer at the position. Scott is 6’3 and can catch nearly anything that’s thrown his way. The Warriors had a very balanced offense in 2020 and the passing game should be improved in 2021. That 1-2 punch of Hendrix and Scott will be one of the better QB-WR combinations in 2A football this fall.
Rope Scott – 2022 Defensive Lineman
With eight starters coming back on defense, that side of the ball shouldn’t be a problem for the Warriors. However, they are probably hungry to get the taste of last year’s title game out of their mouth, where Metro Christian was able to move the ball at will on this Warrior defense. Returning for his senior year is defensive end Rope Scott. The Washington big man will be the anchor on this Warrior defense and will be one of their better pass rushers this fall. Scott and the Warrior defense will be looking to finish the job this fall.
More Names
Bryan Skelton – 2023 Defensive Lineman
Hayden Milner – 2023 Tight End
Luke Hendrix – 2022 Wide Reciever
Notable
Washington has been one of the more consistent powers in Class 2A football as they’ve made 30 consecutive playoff appearances. They became the eighth program in state history to make the playoffs in 30 consecutive seasons. The Warriors are among five teams that have current streaks going to will attempt to continue them this fall. The other programs are Cascia Hall, Jenks, Tuttle and Union. All four are expected to continue their streaks and the Warriors are as well. However, unlike those four teams, Washington only has one state championship during their streak. And if the Warriors are to make it to 31 consecutive playoff appearances, they’ll be on the lookout for Metro Christian. The Patriots not only knocked off the Warriors in the state title game a year ago, they’ve eliminated the Warriors in each season since 2018. Metro Christian and Washington are top five teams and big contenders so the likelihood of them squaring off again is high. The Warriors are determined to get over the Metro hurdle this year if they have another showdown.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Aug. 27 – Pawnee
– One of the top games in week zero will be this one as Washington will play host to Pawnee. The Black Bears come into the season as a top ten team in Class A. And right out of the gate, the Warriors will be tested and this will give us a good gauge of how talented this Warrior team is. They made quick work of Pawnee in the season opener last year and if that’s the case again, Class 2A should know that the Warriors are going to be a tough out this fall.
Sept. 3 – Sulphur
Sept. 10 – AT Lindsay
Sept. 24 – Purcell
Oct. 1 – AT Bethel
Oct. 8 – Community Christian
– The other big game on the schedule is October 8th in week six when the Warriors will host Community Christian. Washington beat up on CCS last year in their district meeting but it should be much closer this time around. That’s why the Royals come in at #5 in our preseason rankings. They bring back some legit stars along with a great supporting cast. This week six clash may end up deciding the district champion and the Royals will be coming in with some revenge on their mind.
Oct. 14 – AT Lexington
Oct. 22 – Holdenville
Oct. 29 – AT Crooked Oak
Nov. 5 – Christian Heritage
