Zander Curry Zander Curry 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Corbin | 2024 State KY is a highly talented athlete that can outperform expectations on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. However, Zander truly shines at the free safety position when on defense. Curry, a 5’11 180lb 2024 grad from Corbin High School had a great season defensively as he caught 7 interceptions in 15 games played (2nd in the state). The first aspect of Curry’s game that stands out right away is his aggressive playstyle. Although playing the FS position, Zander is always looking to find a way to aid in tackling ball carriers even when it is a passing play. Moreover, Curry is one of the hardest-hitting FS prospects in the state 4A class which tremendously helps his defense make stops. Along with his skills at tackling is his ability to read receiver routes and offensive schemes. Curry is typically successful at positioning himself at the right spot before the ball has been thrown to either try to deflect the incoming pass or try to intercept it. Regardless of the outcome, Curry can prevent critical offensive plays from occurring, making him an asset for any defense to have. Right now, Curry has received one collegiate offer and I expect more will follow from that initial offer by the end of this upcoming football season.

Often aligning as a single high safety, Curry’s vision, efficient reads/reaction and the ability to accelerate to/through the football make him one of the most complete and dangerous defensive backs in Kentucky this fall. Starting all 15 games for the 14-1 state runner-up Redhounds in 2022, he collected 59 solo tackles, added 10 assists, intercepted 7 passes and recovered a fumber for a total of 8 takeaways. His movement and body positioning versus pass looks confirm a clear understanding of combination routes, patience and the ability to commit and/or play the football at the right moment. In addition to his speed and ball skills, he also demonstrates an aggressive demeanor in run support and rarely misses tackles in the open field, bracketing the ball carrier and consistently bodying up runners instead of leaving his feet or tackling below the waist. And just to reiterate this player’s ability to impact games, he also takes full advantage of some occasional forays on the offensive side: 53 touches, an average of over 6 yards per touch, and every 9th touch resulted in a score. The describe Curry as “consistently impactful” seems almost an understatement.

Zander Curry Zander Curry 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Corbin | 2024 State KY is a player that I’ve had on my radar for a while now that really stood out to me during the playoffs. While he makes an impact on both sides of the ball for Corbin, I really liked what I saw from Zander at defensive back during their run to the 4A State Championship Game. Curry finished the playoffs with 29 total tackles and two interceptions. He lined up at free safety and did a great job of reading the quarterback and route combinations to put himself in a position to make a play. Once the ball was in the air, Curry showed the ability to cover a lot of ground quickly and break at the ball at perfect timing to come away with an interception or pass deflection. Against the run, Curry does a great job of filling the lane to provide support and is a very reliable open field tackler. While Zander doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect some to come for him going into his senior year as he has received a lot of college interest and has the talent to play on either side of the ball at the next level.

Although we had him listed as a receiver in our initial 2024 rankings, Zander Curry Zander Curry 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Corbin | 2024 State KY had a very impressive year on defense. He finished his junior regular season with 40 total tackles and five interceptions. Curry lined up at free safety and did a great job of reading the play and putting himself in a position to make a play. When the ball is in the air, he has shown the ability to cover a lot of ground quickly to make a play on the ball. Against the run, Curry does a great job of filling the lane and making tackles in the open field. He continued to make a big impact on offense and on special teams as a returner but I really liked what he showed on defense the most. Zander doesn’t currently hold any offers but I can see him picking some up going into his senior year as he has been receiving college interest and has the talent to play on either side of the ball at the next level.
