is entering the biggest season of his high school career, and he will be asked to be the star on the defensive side of the ball for the Buford Wolves, which comes with a huge responsibility, as this is one of the better defensive staffs in the country, let alone the state of Georgia. Echols has been one of the better run-stuffing defenders in the state, but his ability to drive an offensive player down to the ground is something that won’t go unnoticed. He is set for a massive 2026 season and will be part of the reasoning in why the Wolves could go back to the state title.

After spending time as a standout player for the Buford High School program, the talented prospect is now set to be the main player at the second level. Echols has the chance to do a great job when it comes to pass coverage, but it is no secret that he is going to be outstanding when rushing the passer and stuffing gaps. Echols is going to be the one player people claim as the standout from the Buford defense the most, which is saying something, as Buford is fresh off their national championship season.

is entirely too underrated on our list, as he is likely to climb when the rankings change. He is easily a top-10 linebacker in the state, and very well could be considered for a top-5 spot. Echols is violent, and one of the better run stoppers in the state. Echols is also someone who has all the talent when it comes to his ability to chop down a running back and a quarterback. He also plays at one of the better high schools in the country, as he and the Wolves will look to defend their national championship.

A fantastic, max-effort outside linebacker coming off a really strong state-championship season, Echols was a consistent contributor for the mighty Wolves this season and his recruitment is really picking up. Ranked as the No. 6 linebacker in Georgia for the 2027 class, Echols made 91 tackles, 11 TFLs, four sacks, 10 more QB hurries, one INT and another blocked punt. He’s a max-effort style of player who always found a way to make a big play for the Buford defense. He’s an easy Power Four talent and saw a new offer come his way from Boston College.

Joshua Echols has emerged as one of the best 2027 LB prospects in Georgia, and his production is backing that up. He is extremely well-developed physique wise, packed with muscle and definition into his low center of gravity. His size and pad level lead me to believe he can thump between the C gaps, but he is active as well in the form of pass rush, coverage, and special teams. Echols has FBS and P4 offers under his belt and projects as a contributor.

The 6’0 200 LB is former UA Middle School All American and has caught the attention of P4 programs all over the South.
A workout Warrior that is consistently working to get stronger and faster. He has had the opportunity to contribute for the #1 Buford Wolves forcing a fumble and recording 4 solo tackles in a 51-14 win over Dacula.
A future star for the Wolves.

Echols is yet another freak Buford athlete that has picked up major P4 offers before becoming a contributor on varsity. Listed as a LB, Echols is an elite athlete roaming the second level of the defense, providing his team with run and chase ability as well as plenty of range in coverage. He plays with his motor running hot, quickly switching assignments in coverage and violently closing to the football. He is already getting plenty of buzz as an athlete, and will become a sharper football player with more experience. Ole Miss offered this offseason, which kicked off what should be a busy recruitment process.

Originally had Echols listed as an “Athlete” but having watched his most recent clips of some early scrimmages, I like what I see in Echols as an Outside Linebacker/Edge player. He has really transformed his body from boy-to-man over the last calendar year and has packed on a ton of muscle and overall size. Echols excels getting after the Quarterback and causing havoc in the backfield. Athletically is just further along than majority of the Offensive Tackles tasked with blocking him. That said, also does a good job dropping back into pass coverage and making a play on the ball, too. Look for him to be one of the brightest stars for the Buford 8th Grade team this season.
