Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Herron balled out against the Mustangs. He accounted for 19 carries for 101 yards and 1 touchdown. Herron looks like the real deal. He has very good athletic ability, due to very good speed, acceleration and change of direction. His change of direction is very impressive to me. He pivots on a dime, making very clear cuts. Herron looks like he’s using a glider on his feet. He demonstrates good mental processing by choosing the correct hole to run through. He’ll hit the hole with ferocity. He’s also got good physical strength. His stiff arm over powers defenders, and they’ll fall down. Not afraid of contact, and will put the shoulder down to create it. Good catching out of the backfield, natural catcher. Very electric out in space. Excited to see how he does in the championship game.

Herron is one of the more exciting athletes to watch carry the ball in the state. His explosive speed, elusive running style, and vision as a ball carrier help him navigate the slightest creases within the defense and exploit them for significant yardage. Herron’s ability to effectively establish the run game plays a significant role in Cherry Creek’s high-powered offense, so it never feels like the game is out of reach for the Bruins.

Herron is one of the offensive weapons on this highly talented team. He is an explosive back that has a lot of speed and shows good vision being able to setup his blocks to pick up big chunk yardage. He is a capable option out of the backfield and is a threat to take it to the house whenever he touches the ball on the ground. He will be one of the top players that the Arapahoe defense will need to stop in this game.

Another talented playmaker hailing from the Cherry Creek football machine, the Bruins certainly benefit from Herron’s game-changing speed. With hops for days that make up for his smallish 5’10” frame, Herron is an athlete through and through. Already garnering national attention from colleges around the nation, the Class of 2024 graduate found the end zone a whopping 13 times last season and sliced and diced opposing defensive backs for six 100-yard outings. Entering the fall, it should be expected that this is Mr. Herron’s world and we’re all just living in it.

Landing at the #2 spot on this list is Herron who figures to be the top back for the Bruins after losing top senior running back. Herron will have some competition with the Bruins getting some transfers but I will leave him as the top back for now. Herron had a break out season this past season that saw him almost break the 1,000 yard mark on the ground as he rushed for 997 yards to go with 13 rushing touchdowns. Herron is a shifty back that gets skinny in the hole and has a lot of speed that when he gets in the open field not many people are going to be able to catch him. He is good at setting up his blocks and has good feet when making his cuts. Herron has good hands and is able to lineup outside as a receiver or catch the ball out of the backfield. Herron is an explosive player and should be a player to keep an eye on.

Herron was one of the more exciting running backs to watch in the state. His combination of explosiveness, vision, and speed is a well-balanced mixture of what is expected from top-tier running backs. He possesses the toughness and physical running abilities to run through contact in the middle of the defense, but he also has the attributes to fill the role of an elusive scat-back. After his breakout junior season, Herron’s name should be circled on the boards.
