rnIn one of the biggest games of the 2022 season, Jenks would go on the road and end Bixby’s 58-game winning streak. In our article yesterday, looking back at the five best games I covered this season, that game came in at #2 on the list. The Trojans would stun the Spartans 38-35 in a game that was nationally televised and ended up being a fantastic representation of Oklahoma high school football. But leading the way for Jenks was their senior quarterback . He would have one of the best performances of his career against the Spartans. He threw for 130 yards and a touchdown on 7-10 passing. But he tormented the Bixby defense with his ability to run the ball, finishing with 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground. This was without a doubt one of the best performances we watched in 2022.

In addition to Bixby’s QB having the best game of his career in week ten, you can make the argument that Jenks senior quarterback Ike Owens Ike Owens 6'2" | QB Jenks | 2023 State OK did as well. Owens threw for 130 yards and a touchdown but it’s what he did on the ground that got everyone’s attention. Owens ran for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns and he also broke several long runs, deep into Bixby territory, that set up Jenks touchdowns. Owens was back at it on Friday night in the quarterfinal win over Mustang when it came to the balance between the passing and running game. If the Trojans are going to pull off another win over the Spartans and look to defend their crown as 6A-1 champion, Owens will play a vital role.

rnJenks made some history this week on Thursday night with their 38-35 win over Bixby, snapping Bixby’s 58-game winning streak. That grabbed the headlines and there’s no doubt about the fact that it was a massive storyline. But a big reason why Jenks won was because of their senior quarterback . He played the game of his career in the win over the Spartans. He finished with 130 yards and a touchdown passing, making big play after big play. Then he also added 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground. The Jenks running game could not be contained Thursday night. Owens and the Trojans are starting to peak at the exact right time.

Jenks has a ton of momentum going into the playoffs after that week ten victory over Bixby. And while the Trojans snapping the 58-game winning streak was the headline, right behind that was the play of senior quarterback Ike Owens Ike Owens 6'2" | QB Jenks | 2023 State OK . There’s been a lot written about Owens in the last 12 months and some of it was completely unnecessary. Through it all, Owens has handled it incredibly well and he had the game of his life against the Spartans. Owens and the Jenks rushing attack absolutely gashed the Bixby defense throughout the night. If Owens plays like he played in week ten on the road against Bixby, Jenks is going to have a great chance at securing the three-peat.

Ike Owens Ike Owens 6'2" | QB Jenks | 2023 State OK was impressive in Jenk’s comeback win. He showed poise in the pocket, to go along with good throw power and accuracy. One explosive play after another led to his team coming back. Some of the highlights from this comeback were him having a 31-yard and a 54-yard touchdown passes. Throughout the game, he showed the ability to occasionally scramble. This showed whenever he scored on a 1-yard keeper. Pressure did not faze him down the stretch. He came up with one big play after another. It was mind-blowing to me that he has not received any college offers. Poise, patience, power, field vision, and accuracy can all be used to sum up his game.

If anyone has a chip on their shoulder coming into Friday’s clash with Union, it’s Jenks senior quarterback Ike Owens Ike Owens 6'2" | QB Jenks | 2023 State OK . How could you not after the last year? All Owens has heard about and read about over the last few months is the Reisig move to Union, a California star quarterback coming and going and much more. Through it all, Owens has kept his head down and gone to work and he is coming into Friday’s game with plenty of confidence and he’s going to need it. Owens and the Jenks offense are looking to find their groove, despite all the injuries and suspensions. It’s a next man up mentality and Owens and the Trojan offense need to start clicking against a stout Union defense. The talent is there for them to make plays and Owens could get some reinforcements at the wide receiver position that would certainly help.
