returns for his second season as Bristow’s do-it-all quarterback. Last season, he would have a breakout year, throwing for over 600 yards and running for nearly 600 yards. He threw five touchdowns and ran for seven touchdowns. But with Bristow losing Dansby to graduation, it should open the door for Johnson to be a significantly more impactful player from a production standpoint. Johnson was a player that first stood out to us a little over a year ago. He’s a unique prospect to watch in the state’s 2027 class. We’re fired up to see what he does in year two.

is a 2027 prospect that we watched for the first time at a team camp last year. Johnson immediately got our attention by simply passing the eye test. In a team camp that featured some really good players, Johnson, who was just finishing up his freshman year, looked like he belonged with all of them. Then we watched as he played a variety of positions on both sides of the ball and it was clear that he was going to be very important to what the Pirates did on offense and defense. Bristow is going to have a new head coach for the second straight season but we have no doubts that Johnson will be a big part of the game plan. There is a lot to like here and in our opinion, the arrow is pointing up.

was one of the top players that we saw there at a camp with about ten different teams. Johnson did a little bit of everything for the Pirates and it was clear very quickly that he’s going to be arguably their best athlete this season. He’ll play quarterback and wide receiver as his main positions on offense and then turn around and play in the secondary on defense. It was only one day for a few hours but Johnson really impressed us. The ceiling is really high but he’s also somewhat unproven. He gets to change that when Bristow takes the field this fall.

is another example of why we love doing the team camp tour each year. We see players that we didn’t necessarily know about going into the month of May but not only did Johnson stand out, he’s a prospect that we think has a high ceiling moving forward. We watched him for two hours in Hilldale and he played four different positions throughout the session. So when we look at what he can be moving forward, the book is still being written there because Bristow will be asking him to wear several different hats this season. But if this spring was an indicator, he’s ready for the challenge.
