The defending 6A-2 champions continue to roll as Stillwater won their sixth game in a row after an 0-2 start. As they rolled on by Putnam City West, senior wide receiver

had one of his better performances on offense this season. Thompson is also doubling as a defensive back and has been an impact player on there as well as special teams this season. But in the win over PC West, Thompson finished with over 150 yards receiving and two touchdowns on six receptions. It was Thompson’s season-high in yards and touchdowns this fall. And the Pioneers will need their senior standout to continue playing like that down the stretch. There’s a showdown with top-ranked Muskogee for the district championship and momentum heading into the playoffs looming in week ten.

Following back to back losses to open the season, defending 6A-2 champion Stillwater has won two in a row and now the Pioneers will host Booker T Washington on Friday night. When you look at the Pioneers this season, there’s no doubt that leading the way have been the Thompson twins. We knew that would be the case coming into this season but they’ve taken their game to new levels this fall. Senior wide receiver and defensive back

has been one of the more complete players in Class 6A-2. And just like we knew what to expect from the Thompson twins this season, we also figured Heston would be one of the top receivers in the state. But he’s been arguably their best defensive back on the other side of the ball and he’s a threat to return kicks in special teams. He’s made plays in all three phases of the game in the last two weeks. We think the Pioneers have a chance to contend once again in Class 6A-2 with the Thompsons leading the way. But they’ll be facing a Booker T Washington team that’s hungry for a win.

and he’s coming off an outstanding junior season where he led the Pioneers in every receiving category. He was dominant last fall and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does for an encore this fall. He caught nearly 80 passes for over 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. Thompson was without a doubt the top receiver in this offense as the rest of the offense combined couldn’t match Thompson’s 17 touchdowns on the season. Thompson had a really strong offseason as well when he was playing in various 7v7 tournaments with Sooner 7. He was routinely one of the top producers and we also think he has the potential to be one of the top receivers in Class 6A-2 this season. There are a few players in that conversation but he’s near the top of the list for sure.

was another player throughout the weekend that seemed to always be making catches that resulted in points going up on the board. After going back and watching some of the film we shot, it seemed like the majority of catches were either touchdowns or conversions following the touchdowns. Thompson enjoyed an outstanding junior season and we think that he’s going to go into this season as one of the top wide receivers in 6A-2 and that’s not really up for debate at this point. Thompson is an incredibly reliable target that is just as dangerous in the deep passing game as he with making a short pass turn into a long play. Thompson has been an absolute playmaker for the Pioneers over the last two years and he was doing the same thing for Sooner 7 this weekend.

enjoyed a breakout season last year and has only built on that momentum this season. Thompson has been Gundy’s top target in the passing game and has nearly 1,000 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. Last season, Thompson was a big play weapon that used his speed to beat opposing defenses. This year, he’s still one of the fastest players on the field, but he’s bringing more to the table. Thompson is more mature physically this year and he’s also studied the game and runs more precise routes. His overall game IQ has gone up and when you combine all of those things with the athleticism and speed that he can play with, it makes for a very dangerous weapon in the Stillwater offense.

last season when he was enjoying a breakout season as a sophomore. This year, Thompson has taken his game to the next level and is Stillwater’s leading receiver by a wide margin. We saw his abilities in big games last season and he’s continued that so far this year, making big play after big play. And it always seems like Thompson is making his biggest plays in the bigger games. The future is bright with Stillwater as not only do the Pioneers have Heston at the wide receiver position, his identical twin Holden is an up and coming running back.

first got on our radar last September when he caught what would be the game-winning touchdown in a game against Mustang that we covered. He had a solid sophomore season and that has carried over to the offseason and into this year. Similar to so many skill players, we watched the junior standout quite a bit this offseason while he played 7v7 for Sooner 7. He was outstanding this offseason and has clearly carried that momentum into this season, becoming Stillwater’s top receiver and one of the better big play threats within the Stillwater offense. Thompson isn’t the biggest wide receiver on this breakdown but he is right there among the best in the group when it comes to getting open, making catches and then finding away to get away from opposing defenses. Thompson and the Pioneers are hungry to finish off this season with a state title.
