We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again here. You won’t find many other players in Oklahoma that made a bigger jump than Bixby senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK . At this time last year, Kirby was strictly a situational quarterback, used only in running situations. This year, Kirby ended up winning the starting job at quarterback towards the end of the regular season and played some of his best football down the stretch, helping lead the Spartans to yet another state championship. The evolution of Kirby as a quarterback was one of the best stories of this football season and Kirby’s ceiling moving forward as a prospect is incredibly high. This year, Kirby threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. And again, Kirby was splitting time at quarterback for the majority of the regular season. Imagine what those numbers look like if he was QB1 all season long.

rnAt this time last year, Kirby was a situational quarterback, used only in running situations. And he was incredibly successful in that role. He led the team in rushing touchdowns with 19 on the year and he ran for over 700 yards in 2021. But as a passer, Kirby attempted just 20 passes all season and racked up a little more than 150 yards. But he worked all offseason to improve as a quarterback and specifically as a passer. The Spartans were in a unique position where they were going to be able play both Kirby and another quarterback in 2022 and that also freed Kirby up to play some defense at linebacker.

rnThis year, Kirby would start the season by splitting time with fellow senior quarterback Austin Havens Austin Havens Austin Havens 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Bixby | 2023 State OK and Kirby was still in a role where he would come in for running situations but he started to throw the ball a little bit more. Kirby would end up winning the starting job at quarterback towards the end of the season and once he was taking almost all of the snaps at QB, he started playing his best football as the Spartans worked towards another state championship. Despite the loss that snapped their winning streak, one of Kirby’s best performances came in week ten against Jenks. It was that night that it was apparent that the Spartans could ride Kirby in the playoffs and in their pursuit of another gold ball.

rnThe evolution of Kirby as a quarterback was one of the best stories of the football season and Kirby’s ceiling moving forward as a quarterback prospect is incredibly high. This year, Kirby threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns while also adding over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. And again, he was splitting time at quarterback for the majority of the regular season. Imagine what those numbers would look like if he was QB1 all season long.

6A-1 Championship Game Against OwassornSTATS: 16-25 | 205 Yards | 4 Touchdowns | 86 Rushing Yards | 2 Touchdowns
rnAs Bixby captured their eighth state championship in the last nine seasons by beating Owasso in epic proportions with a 69-6 win, senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK went out on top. The story of Kirby and his rise to becoming one of the top players in Oklahoma is one to tell and we will in the next few weeks. But his performance in the title game when he and the Bixby offense simply could not be stopped had to have a spot on this list. Kirby would throw for over 200 yards and four touchdowns and he also added nearly 100 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Kirby came into this season being known as simply a running quarterback who only had a handful of meaningful passes last season as a junior. Kirby would eventually win the starting job and backed up that decision with his performance throughout the playoffs.

There probably isn’t another player in the state of Oklahoma this year that has made a greater improvement than Bixby senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK . The Bixby signal caller has transformed himself from an athlete playing quarterback to a quarterback who happens to be a good athlete. And there is a difference. On Friday night, Kirby helped lead the Spartans to another title with 205 yards and four touchdowns on 16-25 passing. He also had 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground as Bixby’s leading rusher. He’s been Bixby’s leading rusher all season and that element of his game has never been questioned. But it’s his improvement as a passer that has made him arguably the most improved player in the state this season and he finished off his season in style.

At this time last year, Bixby quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK was only used as a running quarterback. He would make a few plays in the state championship win over Deer Creek. This year, Kirby has evolved into a true dual-threat quarterback and will be leading the Spartan offense into their game with Bixby. Kirby has thrown 26 touchdowns this year while adding 14 touchdowns on the ground. He performed well in the season-opening win over the Rams back in late August. But he was still splitting time at quarterback. Now as the full-time guy, Kirby is able to have a much greater impact on the game. And you look at what he’s done in the last three games, specifically in the two meetings with Jenks, he’s playing some of his best football right now.

STATS: 16-17 | 245 Yards | 5 TouchdownsrnWe’ve written about Bixby senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK and specifically how much his passing has improved but he was nearly perfect throwing the ball as Bixby rolled to a quarterfinal win over Enid. Kirby threw for nearly 250 yards and five touchdowns and completed 16 of his 17 passes on the night. He completed nearly 95 percent of his passes as Bixby is once again back in the semifinal round and they are looking for their ninth consecutive state championship game appearance. Standing in the way is a rematch with Jenks, the same team that ended their winning streak just a few weeks ago.

One of the things that got lost in the week ten game against Jenks was the performance of Bixby senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK . He had arguably the best game of his career in terms of throwing the ball and running it and has become a true dual-threat quarterback. His passing has been lights out this season after being primarily a running quarterback last season. Kirby was nearly perfect throwing the ball in their quarterfinal win over Enid and he looks to keep that going on Friday afternoon against the Trojans. Kirby had a great performance against Jenks earlier this season and will look to do it again and punch Bixby’s ticket to the state championship game and a return trip to Edmond.

Bixby senior quarterback Connor Kirby Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK has shown throughout the season that he is much more than a running quarterback, which is what we saw from him last season. This year, Kirby is much more of a dual-threat quarterback as he’s shown that he can absolutely beat defenses with his arm. All season, Kirby split time with fellow senior quarterback Austin Havens Austin Havens Austin Havens 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Bixby | 2023 State OK as Havens was more of the passing quarterback. But as the regular season comes to a close, Kirby has raised his level of play. Despite the loss to Jenks in week ten, Kirby was an absolute star on national stage. He had arguably the best game of his career and has established himself as a a true dual-threat quarterback.
