is a name that we’ve known about since he was still in middle school. There was a lot of potential there and we still think that Smitherman’s ceiling is higher than some in this class. First off, you watch him in person and he immediately passes the eye test. And then you combine that with what this Bixby program has been when it comes to developing game-wrecking, next level linebackers and Smitherman is in a good spot for a breakout season. Now, this fall is a year where we want to see him take that next step and start shining on Friday nights. All the tools look like they are there but this is definitely a big year for Smitherman. Between his athletic ability and size, he has the tools to be an impact player on defense.

Bixby is one of the top programs in the state when it comes to producing linebackers. That’s not really up for debate after looking at their track record over the last decade.

could end up being the next guy in that conversation for the Spartans. Smitherman is having to wait for his turn to have a significant impact on the varsity level. But we’ve been able to watch Smitherman go to work in several of our offseason camps and each time, he really looks the part physically. Smitherman looks good and should only get better from here. So similar to Young and Henry, there might not be as much to go off of right now with the Bixby linebacker but we’re buying stock early because it looks like the ceiling is incredibly high moving forward.

is a player that we’ve liked for a while now after having him at a few of our PRZ-Next camps in the offseason. Smitherman looks the part already from a physical standpoint and his overall ceiling looks like it’s incredibly high as long as he continues to progress and improve his overall athleticism. And the thing that has us the most excited about his future potential is the program he’s in. Bixby produces linebackers that play at a high level better than almost any other program in the state. Smitherman could be the next guy up for the Bixby backers.

was right there with Miller for the MVP at the linebacker position. When we got a chance to look at the linebackers, Smitherman immediately stood out. Smitherman looks long and athletic and could end up playing several different positions at the next level. And as Smitherman goes into the Bixby high school program, one thing we know is if he shows some versatility, the Spartans will move him around. Smitherman is incredibly athletic and moves well. He’s going to more than likely be a player to watch moving forward. If Sunday was any indication, Smitherman has a bright future. Smitherman absorbed the coaching and got a lot of good reps. Even in reps that he lost, Smitherman jumped right back in and was looking to correct any mistakes.
