The Bixby Spartans continued their reign of unquestioned dominance over Oklahoma high school football in 2025. After being pushed to the brink in 2024, it was a different story in 2025. The Spartans were perfect, finishing the season with another undefeated record and an 11th state championship in program history. The season started with three dominant non-district wins over Owasso, Sand Springs and Choctaw. All three of those teams would play for the state title in 2025. With Sand Springs beating Choctaw for the 6A-2 crown. The Spartans would then open district play with a 66-35 win on the road over Jenks, in a game that was incredibly close for the first two and a half quarters before Bixby pulled away. After three straight 50+ point victories, Bixby went on the road to face Mustang in week eight. It was a week where games across the state were impacted by weather. After a lengthy delay, Mustang challenged the Spartans for three quarters. But ultimately, they got another double digit victory. The Spartans won their last two games with ease to finish off the regular season with a 10-0 record. They beat Union and Broken Arrow in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively. And that set up a championship game match-up with Owasso for the second straight season. It would also be their 12th consecutive trip to the state championship game. Bixby beat Owasso 49-21 in week zero but this game was significantly more competitive. While it didn't go into overtime like in 2024, the Rams put up a serious fight before Bixby captured their eighth consecutive state championship with a 31-17 victory.

2026 OUTLOOK

The Spartans are the unquestioned kings of Oklahoma high school football but they come into 2026 with questions to answer. The Spartans only have a handful of starters back on both sides of the ball. This year's team will look a lot like the 2024 squad that only had a handful of starters returning. They took a couple lumps in the regular season but played their best game in the state title game. Offensively, the Spartans have to replace every skill player, including a three-year starter at quarterback. But the good news for whoever the quarterback ends up being, (and it's likely that multiple guys will play) he's going to have two of the best offensive linemen in the state blocking for him. And let's face it, this is Bixby and there have been years where they've reloaded and have been just fine. Defensively, the Spartans also have a lot of turnover. They have to replace basically everyone on the defensive line and in the secondary. But despite losing one of the best linebackers in the state to graduation, that's a position group that they will feel confident in with who they have coming back and a key addition to the roster. And Bixby linebackers are typically some of the best in the state so it's not going to be a surprise if that group ends up being the best on the team, on either side of the ball. Three of their four toughest games will take place in the first month of the season. Those new names are going to have to grow up in a hurry. But if this year's team can follow the blueprint of that 2024 group and continue to improve over the course of the season, the end of the road could be another gold ball.

2027 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1830996' first='Ben' last='Puckett'] is the first of three linebackers to be featured here on this preview. We mentioned earlier how we usually buy stock in the Bixby linebacker group. Another thing that's similarly true is buying stock in the “families of Bixby” as brothers have come through this program and had a significant impact. Puckett is the next in line as older brothers Hank and Jack already had very successful careers. Now it's Ben's turn to step into the spotlight and he has all the makings for being the next Bixby standout at linebacker. Puckett also has legitimate size to end up playing at the next level and at a high level. Look for Puckett to be one of the leaders of this defense.

2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='589663' first='Brian' last='Jones Jr.'] is a player that we have circled coming into this season and we're hopeful to see a full year from the 2028 playmaker. Jones got hurt during his sophomore season but you saw flashes when he was a freshman that he could be a vital part of the Bixby offense. He can also play defense but we're looking forward to seeing him the most on offense. Whether it's as a traditional running back or helping the passing game out of the backfield or split out as a wide receiver, Jones has the ability to be a breakout star. And when you look at what Bixby lost on the offensive side of the ball, there's no doubt that they need some new names to step into those roles.

2027 linebacker and Indiana commit [player_tooltip player_id='480317' first='Cain' last='Brackney'] emerged last fall as one of the state's top linebackers. He came to Oklahoma from Colorado and played his junior year at Union. Shortly after the 2025 season came to an end, Brackney moved over to Bixby and he's been an instant impact part of this program right away. Brackney is another weapon for an already talented Bixby linebacker group. But also don't overlook what he could end up being for the Spartans on offense. They used Brackney quite a bit at running back this spring and he definitely gives them something on offense. But when it comes down to his greatest impact, there's no doubt that it will come on defense.

It was around this time last year that 2028 tight end and defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='1689504' first='Connor' last='Arant'] started to emerge as one of the state's best 2028 prospects. But he needed to go out and prove it on Friday nights. Not only did he do that, but it seemed like his best performances from his sophomore season came against the toughest competition on the Bixby schedule. Now, Arant is being recruited by literally every program in the country and will be a huge part of what Bixby does in 2026. Arant is one of the few skill players that returns with serious experience from last year's team. He will also have a significant impact on defense as an edge defender that can absolutely wreck the opponent's gameplan.

2028 offensive and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1833634' first='Gavin' last='Wilson'] emerged as another elite ‘28 prospect that's coming out of this Bixby program. There's a chance that the Spartans have two top five 2028 prospects from start to finish with Arant and Wilson. Wilson started for the Spartans right away last season and this year, they are expecting him to have an impact on both sides of the line of scrimmage. In addition to starting for the Spartans at right tackle, Wilson will also play defense and if this spring was any indication, he could be an instant impact player. Wilson looked dominant on both sides of the line of scrimmage for the Spartans this spring and will look to continue that this fall.

2027 offensive and defensive lineman and Oklahoma commit [player_tooltip player_id='528027' first='Kaeden' last='Penny'] has been one of the state's top ‘27 prospects for a long time now and nothing changes going into his senior season. Penny is a highly thought of prospect from a national perspective as well. Penny will be a three-year starter for the Spartans and he will have a massive impact on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Just like with Wilson, Penny is one of the best OL prospects in his class but he'll also be a nightmare for opponents on the defensive line. Penny committed to Oklahoma last fall and has remained loyal to the Sooners. He was an All State 1st Team selection on offense during his junior season.

It's not often that we feature an incoming freshman as a player to watch on these team previews. It's also not often that a program like Bixby has a freshman play meaningful reps right away. But 2030 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='2154350' first='Maverick' last='Owens'] is not your typical freshman and it wouldn't be surprising to see him not only get meaningful reps right away this fall, but that he excels and becomes a name to know across the state immediately. Owens is a terrific athlete and he comes into the high school ranks as one of the more highly anticipated freshmen in the Tulsa area in the last several years. We've seen other guys come in with high expectations and live up to them. Owens is the next guy in that group.

At this time last year, we didn't know much about 2027 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1831002' first='Nathan' last='Hobbs'] but that changed following the opening game of the 2025 season. Hobbs emerged in Bixby's season opener and he ended up having an All State-caliber season. We've said this in the past but Hobbs might be the best linebacker in the state at disrupting passes. We don't have the official numbers but it's hard to imagine that another linebacker has more pass breakups than Hobbs last season. Hobbs is also the leading tackler among returning Bixby starters. He's the third member of that three-headed monster at the linebacker position for the Spartans but he could play some offense this fall as well.

2027 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1837241' first='Tylan' last='Montgomery'] is another new name to look out for on the offensive side of the ball. Montgomery had a very successful spring and should go into his senior season with a lot of momentum. If there's one thing we're confident about when it comes to Bixby offensively this season, it's the fact that they are not going to be scared to throw a lot of names out there. At quarterback and at running back, don't be surprised if Bixby uses a variety of guys. Montgomery looked really good during the spring and is a hard runner who can also be a threat out of the backfield in the passing game. Montgomery and Jones could be a legitimate two-headed monster at running back.

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - AT Owasso
- It's the annual “Battle Of The Burbs” to kick off the season for the fourth consecutive year. Bixby has won the last three meetings against the Rams, including the 31-17 win in last year's state title game. These two teams have gotten very familiar with one another as this will be their ninth meeting since the 2022 season opener.
Sept. 4th - Stillwater
- Bixby's home opener comes in week one when they welcome Stillwater to town. It'll be a renewal of a fantastic 6A-2 rivalry when the Pioneers visit the Spartans. It will also be a match-up of arguably the two favorites in 6A-1 and 6A-2 respectively. These two teams haven't met since they squared off in the 6A-2 playoffs in 2021.
Sept. 11th - Jenks (@ Tulsa's Chapman Stadium)
- The Spartans face Jenks in their non-district finale in week two. These two teams were district opponents ever since the Spartans moved up to 6A-1. Now, they go back to squaring off in non-district play. In a series that was once dominated by the Trojans, it's been all Bixby for nearly a decade now. They've won five straight and eight of the last nine.
Sept. 25th - AT Mustang
- After a week off, Bixby will open up district play with a road game against Mustang in week four. The Spartans are not going to be easing their way into the district slate as the Broncos expect to be one of the top teams in 6A-1 this fall. They gave the Spartans a legitimate scare in their regular season meeting last year.
Oct. 2nd - Westmoore
- Bixby hosts Westmoore in week five after not facing the Jaguars in each of the last two seasons. Westmoore was a district foe for Bixby in their first two seasons in Class 6A-1 in 2022 and 2023. The Spartan offense dominated those two match-ups. They scored 70+ points in each of those two meetings.
Oct. 9th - AT Edmond Memorial
- The Spartans head west in week six to kick off the second half of the regular season against Edmond Memorial. This will be the first meeting between these two teams in the regular season. They did square off in the 6A-1 semifinals two years ago. The Spartans prevailed in that one, winning 29-8 before capturing another state championship.
Oct. 15th - Norman North
- Bixby hosts Norman North on a Fall Break Thursday night affair in week seven. The Timberwolves are back on the district schedule after a two year break. Bixby faced Norman North in district play in 2022 and 2023. They won each game by 55-plus points. They also beat Norman North by 45 in the 2024 6A-1 quarterfinals.
Oct. 23rd - AT Edmond North
- The Spartans head to Edmond for the second time in three weeks to square off with Edmond North. The Spartans have taken care of business against the Huskies in each of the last two seasons. They beat Edmond North 85-24 in their first ever meeting in 2024, followed by a 64-7 victory over the Huskies last season.
Oct. 30th - Broken Arrow
- Bixby hosts Broken Arrow for senior night in week nine and this could also end up being a game that decides the district championship. It could also end up being the first of two meetings in 2026. The Spartans met Broken Arrow in the 6A-1 semifinals and ran away with a 49-17 victory last year. The Tigers will be hungry to spoil the senior night party.
Nov. 6th - AT Southmoore
- The Spartans wrap up the regular season against Southmoore in week ten. The Sabercats return to Class 6A-1 this season after spending the last two years in 6A-2. Bixby faced Southmoore in 2022 and 2023, winning both games by a combined score of 146-0. Southmoore will have a first year head coach this fall.

It doesn't matter the year or the circumstances, the Bixby Spartans just find new ways to make history. From their state record 11-man winning streak, where they won 58 consecutive games. Or just a couple years ago, when they became the first team in state history (either 11-man or 8-man) to play in ten consecutive state championship games. 2025 was no different. The Spartans became the first program in state history (11-man or 8-man) to capture eight consecutive state championships. It's a streak that began in 2018 in Class 6A-2 and has just continued since their move up to Class 6A-1 in 2022. There has never been another dynasty quite like the Bixby Spartans. With their appearance in last year's state championship game, that made it a clean dozen straight years where they played for the gold ball. That means seniors on last year's team were in the first grade when this streak started. An 11-1 record in championship games during that stretch isn't too shabby either. It's unprecedented success that would be nearly impossible to match in Oklahoma or in any other state in the nation.
