STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Production, down-blocking capabilities
Justin Heckert’s tape is 19 minutes long, looks to be in chronological order. This is a big no-no in my book, hope to see a thorough tape put forth at some point that better encompasses his complete skill set. I do like the amount of reps in total, looks like a mixture of JV and varsity reps if I had to guess. This tape being a good foundation to work off of, I’m pleased with all things run-blocking early on. Good down-blocking from his right tackle position. Is a wrestler, which makes sense. Watching him work with leverage correlates to work with wrestling coaches, hope he expands in this area, will only help him develop as a better run blocker on the move, especially if stationed front-side on runs where Heckert is lead-blocking.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Disengage/Shedding ability
Xavier Smith is a ways away from me proclaiming he has an ample pass-rushing repertoire. That being said, I’m intrigued by Smith’s ability to win off the snap or after engaging with OL/TEs, specifically when he’s aligned at DE with his hand in the dirt. You see a great dip move early on tape, the bigger tackle had no shot getting into Smith’s chest plate thanks to his flexibility and balance off the snap. Witnessed using leverage and lower body drive to disengage from a much bigger tackle again, manhandling a kid who outweighs him by 40-50+ pounds. Mixture of power and twitch to disengage from pulling guards or TEs, attacks his matchup head-on so that he can shock, shed, and seek the football. Wait until he refines his skills.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Two-Way Playmaking ability
Willing to go as far to say Johnell Edison Johnell Edison 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR North Hills | 2027 State PA could be a two-way starter for the next three years at North Hills HS. Obviously, this is predicated on who enters and leaves the program throughout that time period, point still stands. Edison, who put forth good OCB reps, specifically in run support, also proved to be a reliable screen man when deployed at WR. Edison expanding deeper into each role will either prove me right or wrong, can he be more than a run-supporting DB? Can he expand on his route tree and serve as a legitimate threat at wideout? We will see, good start so far.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Strength & Athletic profile
Bishop Canevin’s Charles Butler Charles Butler 6’5″ | 280 lbs | OL Bishop Canevin | 2027 State PA is ahead of the curve, both in terms of physique, as well as in experience. Headed into his sophomore season over at BCHS, Butler can say he’s got a 14-minute Hudl tape under his belt after one season, a season where he primaried at right tackle. Butler’s tape, which should be cut down to best plays only, is still a bit away from stamping him as an elite prospect, although he’s certainly trending in that direction. Butler is still a bit stiff, still a bit raw, yet his exemplary reps on tape show why many are buzzing around this behemoth freshman. Overtly powerful, although his footwork and hand placement can be a bit iffy, Butler can currently rely on pure strength to win reps. If he can harness this and refine his skills around this foundation, he’ll be hearing from important coaches out West in no time. 6’5, 280, pass-pro reps this early on, an occasional pancake when lead blocking out of his RT stance, there’s a lot to like. Butler will easily climb into the top 50 if he can prove he can expand on his promising freshman tape.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: NO TAPE, NO EVAL
Yes, Sun Valley’s Jhamil Smith Jhamil Smith 6’3″ | 150 lbs | WR Sun Valley | 2027 State PA is ranked inside the top 75 without any tape. I hardly ever do this, and always stand on the fact I won’t rank you without substantial tape. For now, Jhamil Smith Jhamil Smith 6’3″ | 150 lbs | WR Sun Valley | 2027 State PA earns a spot on our ranks solely because of word of mouth from SV coaches. I trust sources, I hear this kid could be special down the line. For the first two 2027 updates, I have no problem reflecting what my sources tell me. If he has no tape after his sophomore season, we will be forced to place him on WL. 6’3, 155, his athletic profile is intriguing.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Hand usage/striking
Another exception made here. Ryan Zats Ryan Zats 5’11” | 245 lbs | DL St. Joseph’s Prep | 2027 State PA doesn’t have “Hudl” tape. He does, however, have a particularly short Youtube tape showing off some great reps at IDL. What must be understood, Zats is developing under the St. Joseph’s Prep umbrella, Zats is going to have to prove to the coaching staff that he’s worthy of being elevated to the A team at some point down the line. I am not going to fault him for placing behind several fantastic IDL at the program. I would like to see a longer tape though. A frequent PRZ Next camper, a name I’m familiar with, I have a hunch Zats will only improve moving forward, so his rank is justified. Tape shows Zats strikes well off the snap, good counter moves, good initial shock to match his opponent. It’s good to see him winning and creating penetration at this level. I’ll have my eye on him moving forward.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Momentum & Size
Size stands out immediately, impressively carved build, looks a bit slimmer than 300 pounds, carries it well. Justin Cowans Justin Cowans 6’2″ | 295 lbs | OL Cheltenham | 2027 State PA is a freshman ROG out of Cheltenham HS with apparent starting experience with the Cheltenham 1s. Love the momentum he builds up without relative space to build it. Cowans can flatten matchups without much drive, the kid packs a serious punch if he manages to square up on his assignment. Good mover behind the LOS, this in terms of pulling. Not too many pass-pro sets to watch, I also think Cowans can make strides in terms of production. I hope to see substantial tape out of him after this coming Fall. Cowans paving run-blocking reps are enough for me to rank him inside the top ten at his position, for now that is.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Poise, decision making,
I wrote up Pine-Richland’s Aaron Strader in the past. Strader has been written up by Pat Weider, Avery Hawkins, and Al Pops, as well as myself, his name gets around. Here’s my previous eval on his 2023 tape.rn
A ton of buzz surrounding Aaron Strader’s name all off-season. I got to see a glimpse of what he’s capable of at a two-day 7v7, an event that hardly saw a Strader error. What’s nice is, Strader is one of the few on this list to post some scrummage footage to look at, so I can get a visual on what to expect for the future at Pine-Richland. Seen working in shotgun sets, ace-formations. Seen working zone-reads with his back in the backfield. I like that the coaches want to take advantage of his athleticism a bit. His third rep shows some poise, no panicking, no eye-darting. Looking through possible QB options on Hudl at PR, I’d imagine he’s had some kind of stretch working with the ones. PR is loaded with potential weapons, whoever is behind center Week 0 will have some seasoned vets ready to calm the young mind. 5’10 as an eighth grader, so long as we can get that to 5’11-6’0, the kid should be good to go to maintain life at the position.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Stature, Left Tackle skills
I’ve only got JV reps to eval, I usually don’t do this yet Ebeling, a frequent camper of ours, deserves an inquiry based on his measurables alone. Ebeling’s reps at IDL look unnatural and it’s great he’s getting tick on this side of the football. That being said, his defensive reps aren’t what excite me. His limited reps at left tackle are what have me intrigued, said reps lead me to invite him to each of our camps with each passing season, I think the kid has potential to become a special prospect aligned at LT for Episcopal Academy down the line. I hope he sees serious action on Varsity this coming Fall. Ebeling’s a young man who likes to stay busy too, with the 2027 being heavily involved in all things wrestling and T&F. A wait and see kid.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Toughness between the tackles, pass-catching ability
If you can catch my eye with names like Jabree Coleman Jabree Coleman 6’1″ | 185 lbs | RB Imhotep Charter | 2025 State PA , Syeer Coleman, and Mikal Davis toting the rock at Imhotep, you’ve done your job as a freshman. Imhotep spent a considerable amount of time up big on teams last Fall, so Ronell Word Ronell Word RB Imhotep Charter | 2027 State PA was able to carve out a role for himself in relief of upperclassmen, he didn’t squander them. He caught my attention week 0 against LCA, he caught my attention in the playoffs when he scored the game-winning score against Roman Catholic in the City Playoff Championship. Word deserves credit, the Imhotep coaching staff clearly trusts him to serve a role when the Coleman brothers aren’t available. I can speak of the kid’s toughness, particularly when running between the tackles. Word might be lacking in height, yet he isn’t lacking in weight. Cut up well, low center of gravity, short area burst. If Ronell Word Ronell Word RB Imhotep Charter | 2027 State PA can do this as a freshman, wait until he settles into his role as the years progress. Top Five 2027 back currently.
