is an excellent linebacker who was outstanding at the Prep Redzone Showcase. I thought he did a good job at the position drills. He moves well and gets in and out of breaks well. He also showed up big time in the competition phase of the Showcase. It wasn’t perfect, but he competed hard and stood out with his effort and toughness. Smith showed he was an elite linebacker and has a bright future.

is one of the better linebacker prospects in the 2027 class. He is a good athlete that moves extremely well. His ability to attack ball carriers in or near the line of scrimmage is excellent. He is also good as an edge defender by keeping the edge and making plays in the backfield. At the showcase, he has a chance to be one of the top linebackers and prospects at the event.

is a talented defensive lineman. He does a nice job of engaging offensive linemen and then ripping through them to push them back. He shows a good ability to create pressure on offensive tackles. He then has a motor that never stops. Smith also uses his hands well when offensive linemen try to block him. Smith has a chance to improve and be even better over the next few years”.

STANDOUT TRAIT ON TAPE: Disengage/Shedding ability
Xavier Smith is a ways away from me proclaiming he has an ample pass-rushing repertoire. That being said, I’m intrigued by Smith’s ability to win off the snap or after engaging with OL/TEs, specifically when he’s aligned at DE with his hand in the dirt. You see a great dip move early on tape, the bigger tackle had no shot getting into Smith’s chest plate thanks to his flexibility and balance off the snap. Witnessed using leverage and lower body drive to disengage from a much bigger tackle again, manhandling a kid who outweighs him by 40-50+ pounds. Mixture of power and twitch to disengage from pulling guards or TEs, attacks his matchup head-on so that he can shock, shed, and seek the football. Wait until he refines his skills.

as a prospect after watching his film. For a Freshman playing Varsity for the 1st time he played at a high level. Smith is fundamentally sound and does a great job of using his hands to engage and get off blocks. In his film, I saw him several times use his hands well to get off a block go down the line of scrimmage and make a tackle. Smith also has a motor that never quits. I came away super impressed with his ability to play at a high level as a defensive lineman. Smith has a lot of potential as well.

Snith is a really enticing player out of the 2027 recruiting class and a multi-sport athlete. Despite being one of the younger players at the camp, Smith performed at a high level and is already a well-built prospect at 6-foot-0 and 203-pounds. He’ll be someone we’re going to be keeping a close eye on over the next few years when it comes to potential impact players.
