6A-1 OVERVIEW

The Bixby Spartans are the defending champs and the team to beat heading into the playoff and there's no debate about that. The Spartans have won seven consecutive titles and ten in the last eleven years. With another gold ball, Bixby would become the first program in state history, 8-man or 11-man to win eight straight titles. Bixby has not only owned Oklahoma but they have become a true national power, climbing up national rankings throughout the season. When we look at the challengers, Jenks and Owasso are the top two teams that come to mind. The Trojans are 9-1 and the only blemish was a week four loss to Bixby. But the Trojans have been playing great football all season. Standing in the way of a possible rematch with Bixby is Owasso. The Rams started 0-2 but haven't lost since and they are playing great football as they head into the postseason.

Broken Arrow and Mustang should be mentioned because on paper, they are incredibly talented and have what it takes to compete with anyone in Class 6A-1. Both teams have quite a few players that are going to be playing major college football in the future. The Tigers haven't lost since dropping their district opener to Owasso while Mustang is the team that pushed Bixby the hardest during the regular season. Throughout the rest of the bracket you have plenty of storylines as Union bounced back from a brutal start to the year and now they are hosting a first round game. Yukon is back in the playoffs and they'll face a Deer Creek team that played their best football in the second half of the regular season. We also get Edlam in the first round as Edmond Memorial hosts Edmond North. That's not the only notable first round match-up. Norman North had to win their way in and now they travel to Mustang in a match-up that could see fireworks. Union is hosting Norman and the Tigers have been known to take down Tulsa-area teams.

PLAYERS TO WATCH FROM EACH TEAM

[player_tooltip player_id='284114' first='Carson' last='Kirby'] - Senior Quarterback - Bixby

When you're talking about Bixby, you could put the spotlight on one of ten different players heading into the playoffs. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='284114' first='Carson' last='Kirby'] gets the nod here as he leads a very explosive Spartan offense. Kirby is in his third season as QB1 of the Spartans and he's hungry to keep this championship run going. And like we've said quite a few times this season, Kirby is surrounded by some of the best talent in the state. Kirby and the Spartans will look to run away with another state championship.

[player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] - Junior Linebacker - Edmond Memorial

Edmond Memorial made a run to the 6A-1 semifinals last season and the Bulldogs are hungry to make it back and even further this season. Junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] leads a Bulldog defense that came into this season with high expectations. The Edmond Memorial junior is once again one of the state's best tacklers and that has been evident throughout the season. McComb and the Bulldogs will host rival Edmond North in the first round. If they win, they'll have a quarterfinal showdown with the Jenks Trojans.

[player_tooltip player_id='595759' first='Crew' last='Noles'] - Senior Athlete - Norman

Norman goes on the road to face Union in the first round and the Tigers have a few players to keep an eye on in this match-up. But there is no doubt that senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='595759' first='Crew' last='Noles'] is the player to watch for Norman in the postseason. Just look at the full body of work that he's had this fall and you'll see why. Noles has impacted the game in such a valuable way that he is a big play waiting to happen. It doesn't matter where he lines up on offense or anywhere else, Noles has the ability to make a big play anytime he touches the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1330007' first='Daniel' last='Yebit'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Yukon

Yukon is going on the road to face Deer Creek in the first round and the Millers are searching for their first playoff win since making it to the 1997 state championship game. Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1330007' first='Daniel' last='Yebit'] has been one of the top breakout stars in Class 6A-1 this season. Yebit was already on our radar for what he does on the track prior to this season and he has been an absolute star on both sides of the ball. He's clearly a terrific athlete and he's going to be a 2027 prospect to watch moving forward and could have a big impact on Friday.

[player_tooltip player_id='523223' first='Gage' last='Gibbons'] - Junior Wide Receiver - Deer Creek

Deer Creek junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='523223' first='Gage' last='Gibbons'] is another player experiencing a breakout season this fall. His overall playmaking ability has helped the Antlers make it back to the playoffs in their second year in Class 6A-1. Gibbons is also playing with a lot of momentum right now. He's considered one of the best 2027 wide receiver prospects in the state and he played one of his best games in the regular season finale on Friday night. If Gibbons can play like that again, Deer Creek could get a big first round win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1836528' first='Izaiah' last='Roberson'] - Junior Running Back - Edmond North

Edmond North faces rival Edmond Memorial, looking for their first playoff win in over a decade. These two teams met in the regular season and the Huskies came up short. Despite that, junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1836528' first='Izaiah' last='Roberson'] had a solid showing, finishing with over 100 yards and a touchdown. If the Huskies can get that kind of production from Roberson in the first round meeting plus other guys stepping up, Edmond North could pull off the upset and finally get that first playoff win since making it to the quarterfinals in 2013.

[player_tooltip player_id='1832625' first='Jaden' last='O'Neal'] - Senior Quarterback - Mustang

Mustang is one of those teams we mentioned earlier that is loaded with next level talent. Senior quarterback and Florida State commit [player_tooltip player_id='1832625' first='Jaden' last='O'Neal'] leads that group. O'Neal moved to Oklahoma this offseason from California and he came into this state with plenty of hype around his name. He's considered one of the best quarterbacks in the country's 2026 class. He battled through an early season injury and has been lighting things up this season. O'Neal and the Broncos host Norman North in the first round.

[player_tooltip player_id='1549987' first='Jayden' last='Hall'] - Senior Running Back - Owasso

Owasso looks to make it back to the state championship game and for us, the conversation starts with senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1549987' first='Jayden' last='Hall'] and more people should talk about him. Hall has been an absolute star for the Rams this season. It seems like every week, Hall is running for 150 yards and two or three touchdowns. In our opinion, Hall has been one of the best running backs in the state this season and he's continued his momentum this season from their playoff run last year. He looks to lead the Rams back to Edmond.

[player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] - Senior Running Back - Jenks

Week after week, Jenks senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] has showed that he's arguably the best player in the state this season. It doesn't matter if he's running the ball, catching the ball or impacting the game in the return game. Jones has been playing his best football of his career this season and has put up monster numbers week after week. If Jenks climbs back to the mountain top in Class 6A-1, it's safe to say that Jones is going to play a major role in that and will help carry them back to a state championship.

[player_tooltip player_id='284117' first='Mason' last='James'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Norman North

Norman North senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='284117' first='Mason' last='James'] is simply one of the most electric football players in the state. The Timberwolves have one of the best offenses in the state and they'll look to keep rolling on the road against Mustang in the first round. James has been considered one of the best players in Class 6A-1 over the last few seasons. With Norman North breaking in a new quarterback this season, James has been the top target in this passing offense and it has been a unit that has been on fire throughout the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='478124' first='Semaj' last='Stanford'] - Junior Athlete - Broken Arrow

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='478124' first='Semaj' last='Stanford'] moving from Jenks to Broken Arrow back in April was one of the top offseason stories in 6A-1 football. But on the field, Stanford has been one of the best players in the state this season and there's no debate about that. Stanford has emerged as one of the top pass catchers in the Broken Arrow offense, he's still a dynamic safety on defense and he's helped the Tigers in the return game. Broken Arrow will face the winner of Mustang-Norman North in the quarterfinals and Stanford will play a major role in that one.

[player_tooltip player_id='858876' first='Tayveon' last='Parry'] - Senior Running Back - Union

Union got out to a slow start this season but they've been playing solid football down the stretch. And when you look at the Redhawks this season, senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='858876' first='Tayveon' last='Parry'] has been one of the more consistent players in this Union lineup. Parry is another example of a very dynamic running back that can carry the ball 20-25 times but also impact the game as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Parry and the Redhawks host Norman in the first round and if they win, they'll have a quarterfinal showdown with Bixby.

BIGGEST STORYLINE

Can Anybody Stop Bixby's Reign?

We mentioned it earlier, but Bixby is looking to do something that no school in Oklahoma history has been able to do. If they win another gold ball, they'll be the first program to capture eight consecutive state championships. Bixby won four straight 6A-2 state championships from 2019-2022 and then moved up to Class 6A-1. The dominance didn't stop there. They've won the last three, including last year's exciting overtime win over Owasso. Back in the summer, a common theme when talking about Bixby was "if you were going to get them, last season was the time" This season, the Spartans came into the year as heavy favorites and they've certainly played like it. They have multiple seniors that will be signing with P4 programs as well as guys that have been starting for years. They also have emerging stars coming up in the younger classes. Can anyone stop them from making more history? The Spartans have become the unquestioned measuring stick in Oklahoma high school football. When you look at all of the different classes, we think it's safe to say that if Bixby was knocked off, it would be the most shocking result. But there are plenty of teams in the 6A-1 playoff field that will be ready to send the Spartans home and put an end to the most dominant run that this state has ever seen.
