Life, death, taxes, Bixby football. Bixby football is inevitable. You can't kill the boogeyman and Bixby is Oklahoma's boogeyman. Whatever clichés you want to use, the Bixby Spartans are the unquestioned kings of Oklahoma. 2024 was not supposed to be their year. They had stumbled twice. Other contenders had stepped up. And again, you can't kill the boogeyman. Bixby opened the season with a road loss to Owasso, 40-21. The Rams became the new #1 team in Class 6A-1 and the Spartans went to work from there. They took care of business in non-district play, beating Sand Springs and Choctaw. They would open up district play at home against Jenks and would walk out with a 21-7 victory, putting them in the driver's seat for the district crown. From there, they would roll. The closest game from weeks 5-9 was a 64-35 win over Mustang. However, in week ten, Bixby would trip up again and lose 31-20 at home to Norman. They had lost just two regular season games in the previous six years COMBINED. Bixby finished at 8-2 and still went into the playoffs as district champions but you couldn't help but wonder if the title streak would come to an end. The Spartans rolled in their quarterfinal and semifinal match-ups, setting up a state title rematch with Owasso. And in arguably the best 6A-1 title game in the last decade, Bixby beat Owasso 43-42 in overtime. A defensive stop late in the fourth quarter, a clutch pass and catch to tie the game. And electing to go for the win in overtime with a 2-point conversion would give Bixby their 7th consecutive gold ball and their 10th state title in the last 11 years. You can hurt the boogeyman but you can't kill the boogeyman.

2025 OUTLOOK

There's a common phrase in sports when you're talking about a dominant run from a team. “If you were going to beat them, that was the year to get them.” And for Bixby, 2024 was that year because it might not be 2025. Like almost every single program in Oklahoma, Bixby did lose some key pieces to graduation. D1 signees and All State 1st Team selections. But the Spartans bring back almost everyone else this fall. At this time, they have three D1 commits and a handful of players that also hold D1 offers. The offense is going to be headlined by a three-year starter at the quarterback position, one of the best offensive lineman prospects in the state and explosive talent at the skill positions. The defense is also bringing back the majority of their starters from last fall and again, they have multiple players on that side of the ball that are either committed or hold offers from D1 programs. Needless to say, Oklahoma's boogeyman isn't going anywhere. Now, when you look around at the landscape in Class 6A-1, it's going to look a little different. Broken Arrow, Jenks, Owasso and Union all have new head coaches. And the talent in Class 6A-1 does feel like it's getting deeper and the talent is very impressive at the top. So Bixby will be challenged but there's a reason they are the unquestioned kings of Oklahoma football right now. They have all the pieces in place to make another run at the state championship. And if they do, they'll continue to make history. There are seniors on this year's roster that have gone to Bixby their entire lives. And if Bixby makes it to another state title game in December, that will be a dozen straight appearances. Meaning every year, from 1st grade to 12th grade, the Spartans will have played for the gold ball.

At this time last year, we were talking about [player_tooltip player_id='415161' first='Braeden' last='Presley'] as a potential breakout star for the Spartans. He's been patiently waiting for his opportunity to shine and on the state's biggest stage in 2024, he did just that. With Bixby losing their top receiver to injury, a new name needed to step up and that was Presley. He had his best game in the state title game and honestly, the majority of his offensive numbers came in the final two games of the year. He's also a standout on the defensive side of the ball as a defensive back. He's become one of the state's top prospects in the 2026 class and is primed for an absolutely monster season this fall on both sides of the ball.

The Spartans will be led by a three-year starter at the quarterback position this fall. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='284114' first='Carson' last='Kirby'] has seen a little bit of everything during the last few years. He has thrown for nearly 5,200 yards and 69 touchdowns in the last two seasons. Last year, his passing stats exploded but he also showed that he's a threat in the run game as well. He ran for nearly 600 yards and five touchdowns and was second on the team in rushing. It wouldn't be surprising to see him have that kind of production, if not a little better as we head into the 2025 season. Kirby has a ton of weapons around him and that could mean a monster season is ahead for the Spartan senior signal caller.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='414994' first='Cord' last='Nolan'] has been a critical part of Bixby's success since his freshman season. Whether it was as a bone-crunching linebacker or an offensive threat at tight end, Nolan has given a little bit of everything to the Spartans over the last three seasons. As a sophomore, he had over 600 yards and ten touchdowns on offense. Last season, Nolan finished with over 100 tackles and led the team with 17 tackles for loss, earning All State 2nd Team honors. Whatever Bixby has needed from Nolan, he's been able to answer the call and has become one of the best overall players in Oklahoma as we enter the 2025 season. Earlier this offseason, Nolan would give his commitment to Texas Tech.

You could start to see signs around this time last year that senior [player_tooltip player_id='338550' first='Emory' last='Snyder'] was primed for a monster junior season. He would live up to the preseason hype, leading the Spartans with six interceptions on the season and becoming an All State defensive back and specifically at the cornerback position. Snyder is long and athletic and has that natural ability that you need when playing in the secondary. The Spartans could be pretty special on defense this fall and having a player like Snyder, who has a nose for the football in the turnover department will help. This offseason, Snyder had plenty of schools chasing him but he would eventually commit to West Virginia.

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1045556' first='Jayson' last='Moll'] has moved from Owasso to Bixby and will give the Spartans an electric weapon on the offensive side of the ball. Moll would run for over 1,000 yards last season, while splitting carries with two other running backs. This season, Moll could be the marquee running back in the Bixby offense, although they do like to spread the carries around. When the football is in his hands, he's absolutely electric and if he gets into the open field, good luck trying to chase him down. And with Moll playing behind Bixby's tall and talented offensive line, it's going to be incredibly difficult for defenses to know where Moll is going, making him a nightmare to defend.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='528027' first='Kaeden' last='Penny'] has firmly established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the state. At this time last year, we were writing about Penny more on the defensive side of the ball but then he became an outstanding left tackle and would earn All State 2nd Team honors as a sophomore. Penny was becoming a national prospect prior to his sophomore season but there is no doubt now that he's one of the very best in the country's 2027 class and not just Oklahoma. Penny is continuing to develop his game and will be the anchor of an offensive line that should be a very talented unit. On that title-winning 2-point conversion, the Spartans ran right behind Penny.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='402387' first='Trey' last='McGlothlin'] got his start on the Spartans as a special teams standout on the kickoff team. McGlothlin has taken that natural athleticism and tackling ability to the defensive side of the ball and has become one of the top linebackers in Oklahoma's 2026 class. McGlothlin is committed to Oklahoma State and between McGlothlin and Nolan, the Spartans will once again have one of the best linebacker groups in the state. That has become a staple of this Bixby dynasty. McGlothlin would finish his junior year with 72 tackles. It's not crazy to suggest that he will join Nolan with over 100 tackles on the year this fall. He's also incredibly versatile with his ability on defense.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - Owasso
- For the fourth straight year, Bixby will open the season against Owasso. These two have met in the season opener and then again in the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. Last year, Bixby stunned Owasso in overtime to capture that seventh consecutive state championship.
Sept. 5th - AT Sand Springs
- The Spartans hit the road for the first time here against Sand Springs. Bixby knocked off the Sandites 50-10 last year and have won 11 straight in this series. The defense will be tested against a Sandite passing attack that will be one of the best in Oklahoma this season.
Sept. 19th - Choctaw
- Bixby wraps up non-district play at home against Choctaw in week three. The Spartans won this match-up 55-27 in 2024 and it would end up being a meeting between the eventual 6A-1 and 6A-2 state champs. Both defending champs bring back plenty of firepower in 2025.
Sept. 26th - AT Jenks
- District play opens with a massive rivalry clash between Bixby and Jenks. The Spartans have won four straight meetings between these two but this has become one of the can't miss games in Class 6A-1. Bixby will try to contain Jenks' star running back and Oklahoma State commit.
Oct. 3rd - Moore
- After facing the Trojans, Bixby returns home to host Moore. The Spartans have rolled the Lions in each of the last three years, including a 49-7 win on the road in 2024. Moore will have a first year head coach and this game will also bring us to the halfway mark of the regular season.
Oct. 10th - AT Edmond North
- 2024 was the first time Bixby and Edmond North ever faced off. For Bixby, they are hoping that this week six road trip to Edmond is the first of two trips to Edmond in 2025. The Spartans beat the Huskies 85-24 in their first ever meeting a year ago. They'll be heavily favored again in 2025.
Oct. 16th - Enid
- In week seven, Bixby will host Enid for a Fall Break Thursday night match-up. This series has been completely one-sided over the last few years. Bixby is 4-0 and have scored at least 56 points in each of those four meetings. Enid will have a first year head coach this season.
Oct. 24th - AT Mustang
- On paper, this looks like a very intriguing match-up as Mustang has reloaded this offseason with some very talented additions to their roster. The Broncos will be looking to contend in 2025. Bixby knocked off Mustang late in the regular season last year with a 64-35 victory.
Oct. 31st - Deer Creek
- Bixby welcomed Deer Creek to Class 6A-1 in 2024 with a 48-10 beatdown in week nine. This year, the Spartans will host a Deer Creek team that has to reload after losing some valuable players to graduation. Deer Creek's new OC is a former Spartan assistant Austin Embrey.
Nov. 7th - AT Norman
- The regular season finale comes on the road in week ten against Norman and this is one that the Spartans will certainly have circled. The Tigers came to Bixby in week ten last year and handed the Spartans a rare home loss. Norman will have Bixby's full attention this time.

NOTABLE

It doesn't matter the year or the circumstances, the Bixby Spartans just find new ways to make history. From their state record 11-man winning streak, where they won 58 consecutive games. A couple years ago, they became the first team in state history (either 11-man or 8-man) to play in ten consecutive state championship games. Then we saw even more history get made in 2024. The Spartans became the first 11-man program in state history to capture seven consecutive state championships. Jenks won six straight from 1996-2001. Morrison would win seven straight titles from 1988-1994 as an 8-man program. Bixby has now been to 11 straight state championship games and have won ten gold balls during that stretch. This is without a doubt the most dominant run of high school football that Oklahoma has ever seen and it shows no signs of slowing down. With another gold ball in December, Bixby would become the first program in state history to capture eight consecutive gold balls. Oklahoma has seen other dynasties come and go but there has never been a dynasty quite like this one. What they've done over the last dozen years is absurd and should be talked about more nationally, not just statewide.
