Enjoy!

Week five is in the books and it's crazy to think that we are officially at the halfway mark of the regular season. Every weekend, we'll take a look at some of the top results from across the state of Oklahoma. Whether it was one of the biggest games of the week, an upset that nobody saw coming or something else, we'll have everything you need to know about the week that was with the weekly round up post. And keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the weekend when we put up our weekly Top Performer feature and we finish off the weekend with our updated rankings for each class!

ADA 19, POTEAU 14

The Ada Cougars are starting their climb in Class 4A and on Friday night, they got a massive district win over Poteau with a 19-14 victory. The Cougars started this season with high expectations as a top five team in the preseason but began the season with a 1-2 record. They dropped out of the 4A top ten rankings but they've bounced back in a major way. They had a strong defensive effort, holding Poteau to single digit points for the majority of the game. Poteau would score in the final minute to make it a one possession game. Ada is now 3-2 on the year and they are tied at the top of the district standings.

BIXBY 49, MOORE 7

Bixby went on the road Friday night and handed Moore their first loss of the season with a dominating 49-7 victory. The Spartans have now won four in a row after dropping the season opener on the road against top-ranked Owasso. The Spartans had another offensive showing where they were completely balanced and moved the ball up and down the field. It was a complete win where no one player dominated the stat category. Bixby would have a lot of players get involved throughout the night and in the win. When you look at 6A-1 from a wider scope, it looks like it'll be a race to Edmond between Bixby and Owasso.

BLANCHARD 48, BETHANY 44

When we looked at the 4A schedule for week five, we thought that the Blanchard-Bethany game had a chance to be a special one and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Defending champion Blanchard would knock off Bethany 48-44 on Friday night, handing Bethany their first loss of the season. The Lions were once again led by their superstar senior [player_tooltip player_id='268307' first='Brayson' last='Carter'] as he continued to show why he's one of the best overall players in Oklahoma. Offensively, defensively and as a kick returner, Carter impacted the game in all three phases. This was also the return for [player_tooltip player_id='1094507' first='Hudsen' last='Periman'] at quarterback after missing the first four games.

BRISTOW 58, SEMINOLE 48

In the first of several high-scoring 3A affairs, Bristow would go on the road and beat Seminole 58-48, handing them their first loss of the season. Bristow is now 3-2 and has completely bounced back from a 1-2 start against a tough non-district schedule. First year head coach Chris Cole is turning Bristow into a serious team to watch in Class 3A and senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='917724' first='Darien' last='Dansby'] has been playing lights out this season. He had another stellar performance as he helped lead Bristow to another big win. This win certainly helps Bristow with their playoff hopes and keeps them in the hunt for the district championship.

BROKEN BOW 56, SALLISAW 14

There were some unpredictable outcomes in week five but this one might be near the top of the list. Broken Bow absolutely smashed Sallisaw 56-14 and it looks like the Savages are going to be one of the top teams in Class 4A. And with a superstar emerging at quarterback who is just a sophomore, Broken Bow will be in the mix for a while. Leading the way for the Savages was sophomore signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1525562' first='Greydon' last='Howell'] and he's quickly turning into one of the best players in Oklahoma. Broken Bow is now tied for the lead in the district standings. Class 4A is incredibly deep this season and the Savages are a team to take very seriously.

CENTRAL SALLISAW 56, REGENT PREP 41

Defense was optional in this Class A-2 battle as Central Sallisaw would knock off Regent Prep 56-41. Central Sallisaw is now expected to rejoin the Class A-2 top ten ranking as we head into week six following this win over a top five program in Regent Prep. They were a top ten team coming into the season but they began the year with back to back losses against a tough non-district slate. But Central Sallisaw has won the last three games and they now find themselves in a great position in the district standings. But this district is turning into an absolute gauntlet as they have a showdown with unbeaten Talihina up next.

CHECOTAH 48, MULDROW 45

In another game that featured a lot of points, Checotah would hand Muldrow their first loss of the season with a 48-45 victory. This game was headlined by two stars on both sides of the match-up. Checotah was led by Oklahoma commit [player_tooltip player_id='353415' first='Elijah' last='Thomas'] who was an absolute monster in every phase of the game. Muldrow was led by junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1161908' first='Teaguen' last='Collins'] as he continues to prove that he's one of the best players in Class 3A. We've said it a few weeks now but Collins is absolutely a breakout star this season. But in the end, it was Checotah getting the big district win and staying in the district title hunt.

CHOCTAW 54, PUTNAM CITY 14

One week after finding themselves in a high-scoring district opener with Piedmont, Choctaw's defense would rise up and shut down Putnam City in a 54-14 victory. The defense elevated their game and the offense continued to play at a very high level. The Yellowjackets would score 50+ points for the second straight week as they were led by a very balanced offensive attack. But junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] would be unstoppable for the second straight week. After beating up on Piedmont last week, Morgan was outstanding once again and the Yellowjackets have now won two straight following a 1-2 start.

CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 37, WYNNEWOOD 16

Christian Heritage was a top ten team in Class A-1 coming into the season. They played a tough non-district schedule that featured losses to 2A-1 ranked Oklahoma Christian School and A-1 ranked Rejoice Christian on the road. Despite the Crusaders starting the season with a 1-2 record, we kept them in the top ten and this is a good example of why. Last week, they handed Walters their first loss of the year and this week, they did the same thing to Wynnewood after beating them 37-16 on Friday night. That win puts them in the driver's seat for the district championship. This was back to back big wins for the Crusaders.

DAVIS 28, BEGGS 22

It was the marquee game in Class 2A-2, featuring two teams ranked in the top five and #2 Davis went on the road and got a big 28-22 win over #5 Beggs. Davis scored first and they were really in control from the start of this game. What was really impressive was their drive in the fourth quarter to put this game away. Leading 21-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Wolves would go on a drive that took up nearly ten minutes of game clock and they would score to make it a two-possession game. Beggs would score a touchdown in the final seconds to make it closer. Davis has now won two straight after a tough 0-3 start to the year.

GROVE 28, CUSHING 21

This was one of the more underrated games of week five and it certainly lived up to the hype on Friday night. Unbeaten Cushing and unbeaten Grove in a battle of top ten teams and Grove would escape with a 28-21 victory. The Ridgerunners found themselves in an early hole, trailing 14-0 but they leaned on their passing attack and climbed back into the game. They were also helped by uncharacteristic turnovers from the Cushing passing game. The 14-0 hole woke the Ridgerunners up and they outscored Cushing 28-7 from that point on. That puts Grove in a great position within the district standings moving forward.

JENKS 31, NORMAN 12

It was homecoming for Jenks and the Trojans finally returned to the win-column, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 31-12 victory over Norman. They handed the Tigers their first loss this season. Their offense was led by junior star running back [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] and senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='456293' first='Kayleb' last='Barnett'] as each had big games. Jenks had faced Owasso, Union and Bixby in three straight games and came up short against each. They now sit at an unexpected 2-3 on the season but as a reminder, the Trojans would begin the 2023 season with a 2-3 record and they would make it all the way to the state championship game.

LAWTON EISENHOWER 42, SOUTHMOORE 35

Down in southern Oklahoma, Lawton Eisenhower had to hold on to beat Southmoore 42-35 on Friday night. The Eagles were led by their two stars on the offensive side of the ball. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='479394' first='Rashaud' last='Hurt'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] at running back and wide receiver respectively had big plays throughout the night but this game got much closer than the Eagles would have liked. Lawton Eisenhower led 35-7 at halftime and looked like they would cruise to the victory. Southmoore made a furious second half rally but the Eagles would hold on for the big district victory. That put them one step closer to a return to the playoffs.

METRO CHRISTIAN 35, CHANDLER 0

While a lot of the attention in Class 2A-1 was on the Jones-Millwood showdown (more on that later) Metro Christian would continue to roll after a 35-0 victory over Chandler. The Patriots remained undefeated on the season both sides of the ball definitely impressed. First, they shut out a Chandler offense that was starting to pick up some momentum over the last two weeks. And offensively, they had a strong showing from the running game and the passing game was able to have some explosive plays throughout. The Patriots came into this season as favorites in this district and nothing has changed that opinion.

MILLWOOD 46, JONES 13

It was #2 Millwood hosting #3 Jones in a massive 2A-1 showdown featuring state championship contenders. By the end of the first quarter, it felt like the game was already won as the Falcons dominated their way to a 46-13 victory over the visiting Longhorns. Jones shot themselves in the foot on their first two possessions, fumbling the ball away and giving Millwood a short field to work with. Both times, the Falcons cashed in with touchdowns. By the end of the first quarter, Millwood led 24-0 and cruised to the victory from there. Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] was the star in this one.

- GAME RECAP

- GAME HIGHLIGHTS

MUSTANG 33, ENID 32

One week after a bad snap on a potential game-winning field goal would cost Mustang, the Broncos went on the road and kicked the game-winning field goal with less than a minute left. Last week, Mustang lost their first game as a bad snap would lead to a missed field goal as time expired against Moore. This week, the Broncos had to rally to beat Enid 33-32. [player_tooltip player_id='1332241' first='Aiden' last='Jordan'] would connect on the game-winning field goal with 41 seconds left and the Broncos escaped with the one-point win. It was redemption for Jordan, capping off a big game for him and the Broncos got a massive district victory on the road.

OWASSO 48, UNION 14

To borrow a quote from the Owasso Athletics X account, "Tulsa County runs Ram red" as Owasso has now beaten the other four Tulsa-area 6A-1 programs and they've done so in dominating fashion. Owasso went on the road and once again showed why they are the heavy favorites right now in Class 6A-1. This was another marquee showdown for Owasso and it was a borderline perfect game from the Rams. Offensively, there wasn't much that the Rams weren't able to do. They were led by their running back trio of [player_tooltip player_id='1414201' first='Chris' last='Zaferes'] [player_tooltip player_id='1549987' first='Jayden' last='Hall'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1045556' first='Jayson' last='Moll'] and of course a dominating performance from the offensive line.

PAWNEE 62, PAWHUSKA 16

There were a few outcomes in week five that we did not see coming and this is without a doubt one of them. Pawnee absolutely smashed Pawhuska 62-16 and it's time to start taking the Black Bears very seriously moving forward in Class A-1. Pawnee began the season with an 0-3 record and it's easy to judge a team based on the winless record but they played a very tough non-district schedule. That has obviously toughened them up and it has turned them into an absolute monster in this Class A-1 district. Despite that, we still didn't see a 46-point victory coming so hats off to the Black Bears for a massive week five win.

PLAINVIEW 35, PAULS VALLEY 34

It was the game of the week in Class 3A and sometimes those games don't live up to the hype but that wasn't the case here with this southern Oklahoma showdown. #3 Pauls Valley would fall to #5 Plainview in a back and forth classic. The Indians would prevail 35-34 but they would have to rally multiple times to remain unbeaten and hand Pauls Valley their first loss. The Panthers jumped up 14-0 in the blink of an eye, led by superstar [player_tooltip player_id='353410' first='Caden' last='Knighten'] at running back. But Plainview would rally and in the end, the Panthers went for a two-point conversion to take the lead but [player_tooltip player_id='288687' first='Shepherd' last='Sisemore'] would fly in for the game-winning interception.

REJOICE CHRISTIAN 47, POCOLA 40

This Class A-1 match-up lived up to the hype. This game featured two teams that were both in the top five of our Class A-1 rankings and Rejoice Christian would survive with a 47-40 victory. Defense was extremely optional here as both teams moved the ball up and down the field. Rejoice Christian leaned on a balanced attack offensively while Pocola would rack up well over 500 yards passing. Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='467141' first='Brayden' last='Hardwick'] would finish with over 300 yards receiving but Pocola was stunned at the end of the game. After recovering an onside kick, they were penalized for being offsides and Rejoice survived.

RINGLING 36, VELMA-ALMA 22

It was a busy night in Class A-2 as we had top ten teams squaring off against one another. This was one of those match-ups as Ringling would face former 8-man program Velma-Alma and they walked away with a 36-22 victory. That puts the Blue Devils in the driver's seat for the district championship and when you look at this district from a wider angle, it would be surprising to see anyone stop Ringling from going on to capture the district championship. Ringling began the season with a 1-2 record as they faced a tough non-district schedule. But they've now won their last two and are picking up momentum.

STIGLER 29, IDABEL 28 (OT)

One of the surprising results in Class 3A was Stigler knocking off Idabel 29-28 in overtime. Stigler was 1-3 coming into this week five clash and Idabel was starting to pick up a lot of momentum. These two teams were tied after regulation and that seemed fitting as they were close throughout the four quarters. Idabel got the ball first in overtime and would score and kick the extra point. Stigler responded with a touchdown of their own but instead of kicking to send it to a second overtime, they would go for the win with a two-point conversion. Now, they turn their attention to a big road game against Checotah.

TAHLEQUAH 31, PRYOR 30

It was a relatively quiet night in Class 5A in week five as most of the top ten teams rolled to easy wins. The marquee game was Pryor squaring off with Tahlequah and in the battle of Tigers, it was Tahlequah coming out on top in spectacular fashion with a 31-30 victory. Cade McAlvan and [player_tooltip player_id='211566' first='Beckett' last='Robinson'] led the way for Tahlequah but they still found themselves trailing 30-28 in the final minute. Tahlequah would get a big play from McAlvan and Robinson with less than 30 seconds to go and that put the Tigers in field goal territory. They kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to pick up the massive district win.

TALIHINA 48, GORE 6

In the first of two blowout wins in Class A-2 that we didn't necessarily see coming, Talihina beat Gore 48-6 on Friday night. Talihina is now 5-0 on the season and they are without a doubt one of the biggest surprise 5-0 teams in 2024. Two years ago, Talihina wasn't even playing football. Fast forward to 2024 and they are undefeated, just pulled off a major victory in week five and are now a team that you definitely have to take seriously in the state championship picture. And they'll have another shot to prove that they are a state title contender in week six as they'll face a very strong Central Sallisaw squad.

TEXHOMA 49, MOORELAND 6

Here's another blowout result in Class A-2 that we didn't see coming. Texhoma would beat up on Mooreland with a 49-6 statement victory on Friday night. Mooreland was unbeaten coming into the week and had a steady rise up the Class A-2 rankings. Texhoma came into the week with a 3-1 record but their only loss was to a Texas team. They would knock off Mooreland with ease and now when you look at that district, you have four potential heavy hitters at the top. Mangum and Thomas are top five teams and they are both undefeated on the season. Now you have to throw Texhoma into the mix.
