A week after earning Top Performer honors, 2027 South Harrison RB [player_tooltip player_id='864596' first='Jaden' last='Hatfield'] had his true breakout performance of the season and has been selected as the Class AA PRZ WV Offensive Player of the Week. Hatfield couldn't be slowed down let alone stopped in the Hawks' win over county rival Liberty-Harrison. He carried the ball 28 times for 325 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 36-20 victory. Hatfield ran the ball hard on top of his known athletic capabilities and did a great job breaking away from first and second contact. He's showing why we ranked him as the early top running back in this class with a very strong start to his sophomore season.

Jones intercepted 3 Buckhannon-Upshur passes in their week two 32-0 shutout victory. He's one of the leaders in interceptions in the state through the first two weeks of the 2024 season having also picked off a pass in their week one game against Grafton. Jones will be a prospect to follow for the rest of the season and beyond as he can also play quarterback for the Colts in the future and has clear athletic potential early on.

2025 Clay County QB [player_tooltip player_id='832676' first='Noah' last='Collins'] continues to put up big stat lines week after week just as he did last season and had another dominant performance against Buffalo in week two. He scored five touchdowns and threw for 229 yards while stepping up on defense this season with another 2 interceptions as he did last week. Collins and the Panthers have their first tough test of the season versus a very good Roane County team in a PRZ Class AA Game of the Week matchup which will be a great test to see where he and his team are this season.

The Renegades relied on his legs in the tough 21-20 win as he carried the ball 30 times for 177 yards a touchdown while also throwing for 142 yards and another score. Vance is just an all around impressive athlete with good size who could carry Westside to some big things this season.

2025 Mingo Central LB [player_tooltip player_id='908101' first='LeQues' last='Strother'] had a strong performance against Westside in a hard-fought loss. Strother totaled 16 tackles and a TFL in the 21-20 setback and put some good things on film in week two. He looks improved from a strong junior season and was flying around from his middle linebacker spot while playing with high effort and pursuing the ball well. Strother appears to be reading and diagnosing plays quicker and getting downhill faster than he showed last season. If he keeps this level of play up for the rest of the season he could be a rankings stock riser.

Another premiere player in Class AA this season is 2025 Roane County RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1106035' first='Lane' last='Watson'] who has stacked two very good weeks in a row for the Beavers. Watson went over 150 rushing yards again this week, nearly eclipsed 200 yards, and scored 3 touchdowns on just 12 carries in the 42-12 win over Lincoln County.
2026 Moorefield DB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1139033' first='Brock' last='Linville'] had a strong performance against Rocktown (VA) in week that was worthy mentioning among our Top Performers. We like Linville as a DB prospect but he can get it done as a run-first quarterback for the Yellow Jackets as he rushed for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 7 carries. Linville showed good quickness and closing speed on defense while picking off a pass from his safety spot. He can also be dynamic in Moorefield's option offense and showed a good burst and some explosiveness in that scheme.

Combs caught 3 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in the 19-6 win over Midland Trail and forced a fumble on defense. He looked quick out of the slot and did a great job rerouting on a bit of a scramble drill for his long touchdown reception finding open space for his quarterback to find him with good improvisation. He's an under-the-radar prospect to keeps tabs on over the next two seasons as he gets more game film.

Cuthbert executed two medium-range field goals of 34 and 37 yards and was perfect on the night in all of his placekicks. The 34-yarder would've been good from 45+ with a great strike and ball arc. Cuthbert's mechanics looked smooth on that field goal and his PAT kicks. He showed he can be a weapon for the Patriots on special teams when his name is called upon.

Clay County vs Roane County

This Class AA matchup will likely determine some playoff seeding down the road as the undefeated Roane County Beavers travel to unblemished Clay County in a big week three game. Each team will have one of the premiere players in Class AA this season with 2025 Clay County QB [player_tooltip player_id='832676' first='Noah' last='Collins'] and 2025 Roane County RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1106035' first='Lane' last='Watson'] who have both put up huge state lines in the first two games of the season. Neither team has truly been tested yet this year but that is going to change quickly on Friday night as someone has to take their first loss of the young season. Roane County's strong run game and beef up front could be the difference in this one if they can keep Collins and the Clay County explosive passing offense off the field and limit offensive possessions for the Panthers. Collins could keep the Panthers in this game for a while with his play on both sides of the ball, but we ultimately see Roane County pulling away as the game goes on.
