had a strong showing in Independence’s 20-0 shutout of Class AAA Brooke. Cuthbert executed two medium-range field goals of 34 and 37 yards and was perfect on the night in all of his placekicks. The 34-yarder would’ve been good from 45+ with a great strike and ball arc. Cuthbert’s mechanics looked smooth on that field goal and his PAT kicks. He showed he can be a weapon for the Patriots on special teams when his name is called upon.

The early leader in the 2027 specialist group is Independence K Micah Cutherbert who was the starting varsity kicker as a freshman last season. He’ll have some very tough competition to maintain that #1 spot over the next three years, but Cuthbert has the tools and potential to finish as a top specialist in this class by the time he’s a senior. Cuthbert has fluid early mechanics and will continue to maximize his potential the quicker he gets operationally. He showed great accuracy on angled sideline kickoffs last season while often pinning returners without much of a chance for a return. His leg should get stronger as he gets older, bigger, and stronger over the years to raise his ceiling even further.
Cuthbert is a 2027 kicker that you need to monitor for the next few years and should be a scholarship-level specialist by his senior year.

earned some accolades this season as the varsity kicker for the Independence Patriots and is the first 2027 specialist you need to know in this class. Cuthbert was a First Team All-Coalfields Conference selection as a kicker, the only freshman specialist to earn post-season honors. The 5’7 165 freshman is a smooth operator on PATs showcasing fluid mechanics and swing. Cuthbert consistently gets the ball inside the 15-yard line on kickoffs and should improve his power with further weight room development over the next three years. He had good ball placement on called angled and short kickoffs including a pretty and high-bouncing successful onside kick. Cuthbert was successful on a 27-yard field goal during his freshman campaign as well. The biggest thing for him moving forward will be strengthening his leg and pushing the ball closer to the goal line on kickoffs and more evidence of field goal ability.
