Continue ReadingAs we head into the 2024 high school football offseason, it is time for some rankings updates! After already covering the 2025 and 2026 classes, we have now officially released our initial Top 75 rankings for the class of 2027. With that being said, I will be taking the next week or so to break down these rankings by position. After already covering the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, I will now wrap up my positional rankings breakdowns with our top “ATH” in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky that make an impact at multiple positions.
Darrian Tomlin Darrian Tomlin 6’1″ | 195 lbs | ATH Woodford County | 2027 State KY establish himself as one of the top overall players in the state in his class with a very impressive freshman season. In defense, he lines up at outside linebacker where he is very reliable against the run. He does a great job of reading the play and getting to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle in the open field. Tomlin finished this past season with 50 tackles and four tackles for loss in 10 games. He also showed the ability to rush the passer, finishing the season with two sacks. Darrian also played a key role on offense, running the ball 15 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns while also catching eight passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Tomlin currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I expect more to come his way as I believe he has the potential to become a Power 4 caliber prospect.
Highlights
While he has played in mainly a reserve role on a stacked Boyle County team, Seneca Driver Seneca Driver 6’6″ | 205 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2027 State KY has been a very highly sought after prospect. On offense, he plays tight end where he is able to use his length and athleticism to his ability to pose as a dangerous jump ball threat. There is a chance that he is also used some of the defense side of the ball as an edge rusher as he continues to develop. Driver currently holds offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as his role on this talented Rebels team continues to grow.
Timmy Emongo Timmy Emongo 5’9″ | 170 lbs | ATH Scott County | 2027 State KY is a player that jumped onto our radar with a strong freshman season. On offense, he is a very productive ball carrier. He has the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Emongo finished this past season with 20 carries for 382 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. He also caught one touchdown pass and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns this past season. Emongo also made an impact on defense, finishing the year with 22 tackles and one interception which he returned for a touchdown. Timmy currently holds offers from Louisville and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as he continues to develop.
Gavin Johnson Gavin Johnson 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Hazard | 2027 State KY is a player that has been on our radar for a while now and continued to impress this past season. Johnson is a dangerous deep threat on the outside at receiver. He has the speed to blow by opposing defensive backs and athleticism to catch contested passes at their highest point. Johnson finished this past season with 39 receptions for 350 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games. He also played a key role on defense at safety, finishing the year with 63 tackles, one tackle for loss, and an interception. Gavin doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be a player to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
Highlights
To wrap up our top five ATH in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have Maverick Ashby Maverick Ashby 5’10” | 190 lbs | ATH Ashland Blazer | 2027 State KY . On offense, Ashby is an explosive playmaker out of the backfield at running back. He has the speed to burst through the running lane with a sense of urgency and run away from the defense on long runs. Ashby finished this past season with 28 carries for 350 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. Maverick also played a key role on defense at safety this past season. He finished the year with 59 tackles and three interceptions, returning one of them for a touchdown. Maverick doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
