Continue ReadingAs we get deeper into the 2024 off-season, another season of high school football is quickly approaching. With that being said, it is time for another round of rankings updates. The third update of our rankings for the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky has been officially posted! Over the next week or so, I will be doing positional breakdowns at each position. After already covering the quarterbacks and runnings backs, here are our top wide receivers in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky.
Aveion Chenault Aveion Chenault 6’2″ | 170 lbs | WR Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY has continued to establish himself as one of the top overall players in the state. Chenault had a solid junior year, catching 25 passes for 328 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games. He is a very impressive athlete that has a high catch radius, showing the ability to go up and catch the ball at its highest point, regardless of the coverage around him. Chenault has also shown that he has the speed to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game. He also returned one punt for a touchdown this past season. Aveion holds a long list of Division I/Power 4 offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a high caliber prospect.
Makhi Smith Makhi Smith 6’3″ | 180 lbs | WR Woodford County | 2025 State KY is a wide receiver that has been high on our radar for a while now and has consistently stayed high in our rankings. Smith was only able to play in three games this past season but produced when on the field, catching four passes for 147 yards and a touchdown. Makhi has explosive speed which he uses to create separation in the deep passing game. He is also dangerous after the catch, showing the ability to use his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big gains. Smith currently holds offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisville, Western Kentucky, and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as he is a true Power 4 caliber wide receiver prospect.
Brock Coffman Brock Coffman 6’0″ | 160 lbs | WR Sayre School | 2025 State KY is a player that has continued to stand out over the past few seasons. He had a strong junior year, finishing with 67 receptions for 1,193 yards and 24 touchdowns in 13 games. Coffman is an impressive route runner, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. He also has the speed to blow by defensive backs in the deep passing game and turn short passes into big gains. Coffman also returned one punt for a touchdown this past season and made a big impact on defense, finishing the year with nine interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Brock currently holds several Division I offers and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play as high as the Power 4 level.
Maurice Stephens Maurice Stephens 6’2″ | 170 lbs | WR Louisville Ballard | 2025 State KY is another receiver that has been on our radar for a while now and continued to stand out this past season. He had an impressive junior year, catching 38 passes for 630 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. Stephens is a dangerous deep threat on the outside, using his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs to create separation. He is also very reliable in contested catch situations, showing the athleticism to go up and catch passes at their highest point and the focus to bring the ball in cleanly through contact. Stephens also returned one kickoff for a touchdown and made an impact on defense this past season, finishing the year with 38 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two interceptions. Maurice holds a handful of Division I offers and I expect more to come his way as I believe he has the potential to become a true Power 4 caliber prospect this season.
Highlights
To wrap up our top five wide receivers in the class of 2025 in the state of Kentucky, I have Derion Talbert Derion Talbert 5’8″ | WR Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY . Derion is coming off a strong junior year in which he led his team in receiving with 38 receptions for 591 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games. Talbert is dangerous with the ball in his hands in open space, showing the ability to use his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes and screens into big plays at any given moment. He has also shown the speed to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game. Talbert also played a key role out of the backfield this past season, carrying the ball 24 times for 359 yards and three touchdowns. He also made an impact on special teams, returning two punts for touchdowns. Talbert currently holds multiple Division I offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a very talented prospect who is starting to receive a lot of attention from college coaches.
