Coming into the 2023 football season, we didn’t know what to expect from Pawhuska since they didn’t have a Drummond back at quarterback. But this offense showed no signs of taking a step back as they dominated Caney Valley in an 82-0 season opening win. And junior quarterback Canyon Hindman Canyon Hindman 5’11” | QB Pawhuska | 2025 OK is the latest Pawhuska quarterback to put up some monster numbers on the gridiron. In a limited performance, Hindman threw for nearly 300 yards and five touchdowns on just 10-12 passing. He also added two touchdowns on the ground. It’s not a bad debut when half of your completions end with touchdowns for the Huskies.
Jones looked dominant on Friday night as they beat Bethany in a match-up featuring ranked teams. Senior quarterback Clayton Creasey Clayton Creasey 6’1″ | 195 lbs | QB Jones | 2024 State OK continued to show why he’s one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the state with a complete performance in the win. He threw for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15-23 passing. But with Creasey, he’s always a threat to run the football and he finished with over 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Longhorns looked really good in their season opener and they’ll need that momentum as they play host to Lincoln Christian Friday before the week two showdown with top-ranked Washington.
Victory Christian got their 2023 season off with a great win on the road against Cascia Hall. Sophomore running back Dallas Dyer Dallas Dyer 5’10” | 185 lbs | RB Victory Christian | 2026 State OK was a player that we were excited to see this season after a really strong offseason. Dyer was at Broken Arrow last fall and looked to be an instant impact player in the Victory offense. It was a good start for the Victory sophomore. He finished with nearly 200 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. All in all, he had nearly 250 all purpose yards between rushing, receiving and he helped out in the return game. Dyer was a player that we thought could be a breakout player this fall and it appears that he’s well on his way.

Arguably the biggest win of week zero was Edmond Santa Fe going on the road and knocking off Jenks on Friday night. It’s been well documented that the Wolves struggled in 2022, going 1-9 but they were destined for a big bounce back season. And junior running back Demarius Robinson Demarius Robinson 5’9″ | 165 lbs | RB Edmond Santa Fe | 2025 State OK back on the field and healthy was a big reason for that narrative and he played like one of the best backs in the state on Friday. Against a tough Jenks defense, Robinson gashed them for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Robinson and the Wolves made a very loud announcement to the rest of Class 6A-1 that they are back in a big way this fall.

We mentioned this following Bixby’s 42-16 victory over Owasso on Thursday night but we’ll repeat it here. Senior linebacker Hank Puckett Hank Puckett 5’11” | LB Bixby | 2024 State OK was the best player on the field from start to finish. The senior finished with nearly 20 tackles on the night, which makes sense considering it felt like every other play he was either making the tackle or was in on the tackle. 11 of those 19 tackles were solo from the linebacker position. He had two tackles for loss and a sack as the Bixby defense was absolutely dominant for the first three quarters as they rolled to the week zero win. In our opinion, Puckett is one of the best linebackers in the state and he backed it up on a big stage.
One of our questions surrounding Washington was the running back position as they had to replace a very productive back from last year’s state championship team. That is no longer a question as junior running back Hudson Howard Hudson Howard 5’9″ | 180 lbs | RB Washington | 2025 State OK made a loud and immediate statement that the Washington rushing attack was going to be just fine. In their dominant 55-13 win over Vian, Howard would run for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries. Half of his carries ended with Washington touchdowns on Friday night as the Warriors were dominant against Vian for the second straight year. Howard and the Warriors face another ranked team Friday with 3A’s #3 Sulphur.

In one of the most explosive games of week zero, Sand Springs continued to own Highway 97 as they beat Sapulpa in a high-scoring affair. Just like last season, the Sandites could not be stopped on the ground and senior running back Kenneth Page Kenneth Page 6’0″ | 200 lbs | RB Sand Springs | 2024 State OK torched the Chieftains again. Last season, he was a workhorse with nearly 40 carries. This season, he split time with another running back but still led the way with 161 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. The Sandites as a team ran for over 300 yards on Friday night and with some strong pieces on the offensive line and two very capable backs, that will be the recipe for success this fall.

Moore knocking off Edmond Memorial on Friday night was definitely one of the highlights in 6A-1 on Friday night. Junior quarterback Malikai Miller Malikai Miller 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB Moore | 2025 State OK , who moved to Moore this summer from Edmond Santa Fe, had a very strong start to his junior season. He finished with over 200 yards passing and a touchdown as well as 100 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Miller was hurt as a sophomore and also played a few different positions. He’s earned the starting role with the Lions and he is off to a very fast start so far this season. Miller has impressed us in camp settings in the past and now he’s translating that to success on Friday nights.
Highlights
Del City senior running back and Oklahoma State commit Rodney Fields Rodney Fields 6’0″ | RB Del City | 2024 State OK was the best football player on the field as the Eagles opened their season against Choctaw. The game ended in the third quarter when a shooting took place in the parking lot. It was a terrible ending to a game where the OSU commit was special every time he got the ball in his hands. Fields would finish the game with nearly 150 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also took a kickoff back 90 yards for his fourth touchdown on the game. Fields, who moved to Del City from Southeast, showed just how explosive he could be in this revamped Del City offense.
Union junior quarterback Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK was one of our “Players To Watch” heading into week zero as the Redhawks opened up the season against Westmoore. The Jaguars have a couple prospects in their secondary that will be playing D1 football but Reisig absolutely carved up the Westmoore defense in the season opener. Reisig finished with well over 300 yards and five touchdowns on 27-34 passing. All five touchdowns were to five different wide receivers. Reisig continues to be arguably the most efficient quarterback in the state and he showed why on Thursday night. He also added a rushing touchdown in the win.
