Tees finished the game with five total tackles and also scored a touchdown in offense. Had a few tackles in the flat, including one where he tackled a running back immediately after he caught a swing pass on fourth down, denying the first down. Tees also almost came away with an interception on two other plays.

McDonogh defeated Haverford 35-25 at Under Armour Stadium in Baltimore this past weekend. The first couple of plays in his highlights show him in pass coverage from outside linebacker. On the first play, he reacts to the receiver making the catch and immediately makes the stop for a minimal gain. On the other play, he hits the receiver on a short-pass play down the seam and dislodges the football. Tees also has a few other plays showing him defending against the run. Despite being undersized, he does more than hold his ground and keeps containment. He’s in on a few tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage. Tees plays with a high motor, plays good assignment football as a pass defender, and doesn’t give up ground while setting the edge.

Matthew Tees is an undersized but highly disruptive defender who plays with speed, toughness, and a nonstop motor. While he also contributes offensively, it’s his defensive film that sets him apart. During the season, he posted 65 total tackles (29 solo), eight tackles for loss, four sacks, 3 QB hurries, one interception, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

Off the edge, Tees wins with quickness and timing. He’s a dangerous blitzer who comes downhill fast, avoids blocks, and closes on quarterbacks in a hurry. He finishes sacks with urgency. Tees’ highlights show him often chasing plays down well behind the line of scrimmage.  

Against the run, he plays bigger than his size. He diagnoses cutbacks quickly, wraps up nicely, and isn’t afraid to go low to finish tackles. His highlights include several stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. He shows strong effort in pursuit and consistently finds his way to the football.

Tees also flashes awareness in coverage. He scans screens, avoids blockers in space, and contributes on pass plays, including an interception on a broken play. His instincts and effort allow him to make plays even when initially blocked.

Yes, Tees is very undersized for the position. However, he is a significant contributor and difference maker on McDonogh’s defense. Tees is playing out of position but has made the most out of it and is one of the most productive players on that side of the football for his team. 

Tees added some depth in the backfield with a couple of runs for 6 yards and 18 yards. Both resulted in first downs for McDonogh. Tees provided a nice change-of-pace look for McDonogh and one to look out for down the road. Unofficial first-half stats: 3 carries for 30 yards.
