After watching Johnson closely for a few years, Johnson is simply a gamer. When it’s time to perform, he does it. He is listed at 6’3 225, and is a tough runner. His athleticism and ability to impact the game as a runner have remained consistent across several years as a starter, but as a senior, he looks more honed in and on time as a passer. He is hitting his receivers in stride and dropping it in over the hands of DBs. Johnson has a few GO5/D1 offers under his belt, and it feels like a given that he will get a shot at that level.

An excellent quarterback that I have been able to watch and cover in person is Jaylen Johnson Jaylen Johnson 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Thomas County Central | 2026 State GA from Thomas County Central. I was able to cover him on a national television show and I compared his calm play style to a Vince Young from (Texas) back in the day. His calm, cool and collected a lot like that which gives him that edge to pick apart defenses. He has the ability to really have a massive and historic season.

One of the more underrated quarterbacks in Georgia for the 2026 class, Johnson is a big quarterback with a live arm who continues to improve year after year. This South Georgia passer had a big junior season last fall for the mighty Yellow Jackets where he threw for 2,440 yards and 25 touchdowns. He’s improving more and more and has two of the best receivers in the area to throw the ball too. Look for this sleeper gunslinger to have a giant senior season next fall.

Big, athletic QB who has done nothing but win at the HS level. Basis of intrigue starts with his legs, consistently executing zone reads and pitch-option plays on tape. He is explosive enough to vacate short areas and flashes long speed to out-run angles. Unverified GPS times of 21 MPH. Tough to tackle and will finish runs hard. Calm in the pocket. He has the horsepower to generate plenty of power on his throws and flashes good ball placement, especially in the intermediate areas. Johnson has picked up his first set of D1 offers this offseason and more are on the way.

One of the top overall quarterbacks in South Georgia, Johnson is an efficient passer with above-average arm talent who has state championship aspirations for his Bulldog team this fall. He had a tremendous junior season this fall, throwing for 2,134 yards and 23 touchdowns. He’s not necessarily a “dual-threat” quarterback as he loves to sling the ball through the air, but he did find the endzone six times on the ground this year. Johnson and Thomas County Central will play Rome in the second round this weekend.
