Expert Analysis

Playing for his father as a defensive coach, Deuce has had some pressure to perform in his career, and I have to say he has grown a lot as a player within the Mavericks’ defense. I am impressed with the ferocity Deuce gets to the football, and he brings some pop in his pads when he tackles. He has very good speed and acceleration on the snap, and he is one of the defensive leaders for this ball club. I’m excited to see him in this setting soon.

Deuce probably played as well as I can remember seeing him in person. From the middle of the Mallard Creek defense, he had a couple of big tackles that got some momentum going for his team, especially in the scoreless first quarter. I liked the speed and passion he played with overall, and they will need that in bouncing back from a tough loss.

Midgett has elite closing speed and when he makes a decision, he can get downhill in a hurry. While he plays in the middle for Mallard Creek, I think he projects best as an outside linebacker at the next level. He needs more consistent playing time to become an elite player, but the tools are there. This year I’ll be watching to see how he progresses in coverage and in his ability to read the quarterback’s eyes in zone coverage.
