Our Offensive Line MVP, we wrote about his showcase performance in the MVP article, so we’ll talk about his offseason improvement. I had some Mallard Creek people tell me Cleveland has worked extremely hard this offseason in the weight room and doing some offensive line skill training. Those efforts have paid off with much better footwork and strength, and he’s picked up offers from Elizabeth City State and Concord University, and I think it’s a safe bet he will have more coming his way ahead of his senior season.

We had a good offensive line group in attendance, and the OL coaches worked hard in choosing who the top performers were. Cleveland received a lot of love for his physicality in pass protection, not giving ground against defensive tackles in 1-on-1s, and the way he took coaching in the individual portion of the showcase. Cleveland has started to receive some recruiting love, and he’s a strong interior offensive line prospect. He should have a strong senior year with the Mavericks coming up.

Smith has great size, and he’s performed well in offseason camp, just needing an opportunity under the lights on a Friday. He has a good punch as a pass blocker, and he typically can engage defenders before they get to his chest, thanks to his length.
